A Softball Miracle!!

This is our first ALGN post about softball…and it is a GREAT one!!  Forgive me for posting such an old “Good News” story, but this story about something special that happened in a Women’s Softball Game deserves to be shared with everyone.  This video is one of our longer posts (at just under 6 minutes), but it is very touching.  At the end of March, 2009, Sara Tucholsky was a senior softball player on the women’s Softball team at Western Oregon.  In her entire softball college career, although she was a great player, she had never hit a home run (as she was not a power hitter).  Her team was playing a doubleheader against Central Washington.  Sara connected on a hit and sent it sailing over the fence, but then something bad happened.  I’d love to tell you the rest, but that would ruin the whole story.  Please watch today’s “Classic” ALGN post to see what happened after her great hit.  I may have us start posting one “classic” (“an oldie, but goodie”) post each week.  There are so many great ones….and they still can lift us by watching them.  A big “thank you” to Tiffany H.G. for sending this our way.  What a WONDERFUL story!!  I hope you will all love it and share it with your friends!!

Have a GREAT day…by making it a great day for someone else!!!

Coach Suspends Entire Football Team

With everything we are reading about college and pro football players and the kinds of troubles they get into, it is hard to keep being a fan of the sport.  But, then, a high school football coach comes along and changes all of that.  I know that many of you have already heard about this “football story”, but I like it too much to not share it.  After reports that some of his players had been skipping classes and that some of them were suspected as the culprits of some anonymous cyber bullying of another student at the school, a head coach of a high school football team in Utah met with the team after their Friday Night game and instructed them to all turn in their jerseys.  He suspended the ENTIRE football team.  He told them that he needed to help them develop character in important ways OUTSIDE of football.  He gave them a list of what needed to be done to EARN their jersey back.  Watch this video and see if you don’t agree that THIS is the kind of coach we need at all institutions.  If every athlete had a coach like this in high school, I think we would have fewer college and pro athletes with integrity and character issues.  It is WONDERFUL to have a football coach that not only preaches, but LIVES the philosophy that there is so much more to life than football.  I hope he turns his football players from being the bullies to being the protectors!!  I hope they become the BEST examples in the school.  What a great message!!

Boy Asks Santa to Stop the Bullying of Sister

Bullying is one of the scourges of this country!  I HATE hearing stories of how children are having such terrible experiences in their lives because of the bullying that happens to them. There have even been heart wrenching stories of kids committing suicide because the bullying became too much for them to handle.  Today’s ALGN video post is one of the longer ones we have done (just under 5 minutes), but it is worth every second.  PLEASE WATCH.  And, per requests from many of you in the past, we are issuing a KLEENEX ALERT!!!  An 8 year old boy wrote to Santa early, asking him to help stop the bullying that was continuing to happen to his twin sister.  She has some mental issues and is constantly under attack from the bullying that happens to her.  Her brother even said that he would rather that the bullies pick on him instead of  her.  There are some wonderful parts in this video.  It will really touch you in many ways.  Please watch…..and PLEASE share this post with your friends and family.  Encourage them to watch it and share it, as well.  Even if they don’t want to subscribe for FREE to ALGN (although we would love it if they would), we need to get this “anti-bullying” message out to as many people as we possibly can!! Thank you for helping to spread this important message!!

Dog Saves Baby From Drowning at Beach

Dog Lovers…and soon to be Dog Lovers!!  This week’s “pet post of the week” is another great one!!  A family dog was having a wonderful time at the Beach in Turkey with its owners. They were playing fetch.  All of a sudden, the dog quit playing.  Why?  Because the family’s baby had been crawling (unnoticed towards the ocean).  The dog noticed this before anyone else did and ran to the ocean and laid down in front of the baby, putting himself between the baby and the waves that were coming to shore.  Others were filming this and caught the whole thing on camera, including the mother running to scoop the baby up (after their dog had abruptly left playing fetch and led them right to the baby — the reason that the dog quit playing).  I LOVE hero stories, but when they come in the form of a family pet, sensing danger and doing something incredible and heroic like this, it is even more impressive.  How can ANYONE not agree that a Dog is Man’s (and BABY’S) best friend??  A big thank you to Winklett (one of our “GoodNewsians”) for sending this story in to us!!  It is a great one and we are sure you will agree.  Watch…and share it with all of your animal loving friends!!  In fact, share it with those friends of yours who DON’T like animals and show them why they should!!

See Why I’m a Fan of the Home Depot Now!

I don’t care how you felt about Home Depot prior to today, but after watching this video, if you are like me, you will become a Home Depot fan for life!!  A mom of a 5 year old with a very rare disease (who has had dangerous health challenges his whole life) decided to do something big and special for his birthday.  She asked him what he wanted to do.  He got very excited and said that he wanted to go with his Dad to Home Depot.  Unfortunately, his Dad was not allowed to miss work that day.  So, his Mom tried to make the best of it by just asking for an “At Home” Home Depot kit to give her son.  This is where the story gets “goose bumpy”.  The manager at their local Home Depot, when he heard of the request and the disease of this young boy, said, “WE CAN DO MUCH BETTER THAN THAT!!”  — and he got his people on the case.  Watch this video and see what they did to make his day a VERY special one!!!  Three cheers for the Home Depot.  They just went up 10 notches in my book!!  Thank you to Amy K. for sending this great story to us!!

Hero Saves Woman and Daughter in Flash Flood

I’m sure you have heard about the flood issues in Colorado a few days back.  We kept hearing more and more BAD NEWS about the flood challenges that people were facing.  That gave me the idea this weekend to start looking for the GOOD NEWS stories that were happening during it.  Sure enough, here is a great story that happened during the floods.  A mother and daughter were driving along when they came across a lot of water crossing the street.  At first, the woman thought she was fine, but the flood waters rose incredibly quickly and soon it was inside her car and filling it up.  At the point that it was up to her cupholders, she got herself and her daughter out of the car, standing on the top of it.  However, they had nowhere to go and the water was starting to move the car.  Nobody was even attempting to help this poor woman and her daughter.  They were about to become victims of the flood waters.  Just then, along came their “Angel in Disguise”.  Watch this video.  It will make you feel great about the heroes who are all around us.

Watch What This DQ Employee Does To A Blind Man!!

Blind people have it tough enough WITHOUT people stealing from them just because they can’t see.  Someone needs to stand up for them.  And that is JUST what a Dairy Queen employee in Minnesota did a few days ago.  I saw this story yesterday, but could not find a video of it.  A big THANK YOU to Aubrey D. who sent us a video link of it today.  A blind man went to pay for his food and dropped a $20 bill without knowing it.  A woman picked it up and put it into her purse.  Shocked at what he witnessed, Joey Prusak (a young manager at the DQ) told the woman to give the blind man his money back.  She refused, claiming that it was hers.  He then told her that if he wouldn’t give the blind man his money back, she had to leave because he would NOT serve her.  She left.  Then, this great young man took $20 out of his OWN pocket and gave it to the blind man, telling him that it was on behalf of the Dairy Queen.

What a CLASS ACT!!!  Watch this video to see the type of young man this guy is.  Doesn’t it make you feel great to know that there are still WONDERFUL people all around us doing the RIGHT thing?  Don’t let the newspaper and TV news fool you.  “A Little Good News” is happening all around us every day.  PLEASE let your friends and family know about “ALittleGoodNews.com”.  We want to share our good news with more people every day!!

Homeless Man Returns Backpack with $42k

Sometimes, it seems that our society has a LOT that we can learn from the homeless.  Some of you have seen or heard about this story over the last couple of days.  A homeless man in Massachusetts, found a backpack outside of a store.  Inside the backpack, there was $2,400 in cash and nearly $40k in travelers checks (for a total of $42,000).  What would you have done?  This wonderful man, though completely homeless, didn’t keep one penny of it.  He flagged down the police and turned it into them.  The person who lost the backpack came back to the store, looking for it and they were able to ascertain that he was the correct owner of it from his passport that was also in the backpack.   This video points out that the homeless man was given a special recognition for turning the money in.  You’ll love what they quote the homeless man (Glen James) as saying at the end of the video.  However, the story gets even better.  What we are now beginning to hear that is NOT in this video (and I’m sure we will see videos on the internet of it in the coming days) is that people have been raising money to reward him for his kindness and integrity.  Rumor has it that the amount raised is ALREADY MORE than the $42k that he found!! This ending just keeps getting HAPPIER!!!  Thank you to Amy K. and Phyllis C. for sending this story into us!!

KLEENEX ALERT!! — My New Favorite Post!!

Today is one of my new all-time FAVORITE posts for “ALittleGoodNews.com”.  WARNING:  KLEENEX and MAKE-UP RUNNING ALERT!!  I don’t know if you have already seen this (as it is going around a lot today), but even if you have, it is worth another look.  I know that I have had a number of posts that could have easily been my “favorite”, but today’s post fits right up there with the best of them.  And, unlike almost all of our posts, today’s post isn’t even a news story.  Rather, it is a 3 minute commercial for a Thai company (as a result, it has subtitles that you will need to read).  But, even with subtitles and it not being a news story, it is STILL right up near the very top of my list of one of my very favorite ALGN posts.  As you watch, I challenge you to not allow your “eyes to leak” a little bit!!  I couldn’t hold back.  It is really touching.  Please let me know if this one makes it into your list of one of your favorite posts we have done yet!!

Strangers Save 5 Year Olds from Drowning

I hate hearing about people (especially kids) drowning.  But, today’s story for “ALittleGoodNews.com” has a very different ending.  Thanks to the incredibly quick action of two men (strangers who rushed to the rescue) two five year old boys are alive and well with their families.  Just over a week ago, a woman noticed a boy floating face down at Cherry Creek Reservoir in Colorado, obviously drowning.  She called for help and started taking photos as a man rushed in.  She saw that there were actually two boys who were drowning (lifelessly floating face down on top of the water).  He picked up the limp boys and rushed to the shore where he and another man began performing CPR on the boys who had been drowning.  Soon, she could hear their cries and see them sit up.  This story SO EASILY could have ended in a tragically different way, had it not been for the “Angels in Disguise” who came at just the right moment and did all of the right things to save the lives of the two near victims of drowning.  Thank you to Tim M. for sending this story into us!!
