Bus Driver Stops His Bus To Save A Life

If you haven’t seen this video yet of this Buffalo bus driver, make sure you watch today’s ALGN post.  What a hero he is.  Thanks to Mark B., Sharon A., Denise S. and Winklett.  Each of these subscribers saw this and sent it in to us.  Here is the story:  A woman was ready to jump off of a bridge into traffic (to hear death).  As bystanders passed right by her (walking and riding bikes, etc.), this hero bus driver brought his bus to a stop and opened his door and tried to get her attention.  When she would not respond, the bus driver (Darnell Barton) got out of the bus and slowly and carefully walked over to her, held on to her and then helped her back over the guard rail.  He then even sat down and stayed with her until help arrived.  When the bus driver, Barton, got back to his bus, his passengers gave him a big round of applause.  Instead of getting mad at being late to their destinations, they realized that they had just witnessed a hero in action.  They saw a life literally being saved.  Their bus driver was actually an “Angel in Disguise”!!  And, we hear in the video that he worked the rest of the day and never even told his bosses about what had happened.  WOW!!  Heroes are all around us, disguised as all kinds of things (including bus drivers).  Way to go, Mr. Barton.  You are a TRUE hero!!

Have a GREAT Halloween, everyone.  Be safe and have fun…and make it a great day for someone else!!!

Tortoise to the Rescue (Slowly)!!

It is time for ALGN’s  “Animal Post of the Week”.  This week, instead of the usual animals we have had, we are posting one of a tortoise being the hero.  It is a very simple message, but a great one, nonetheless.  We want to thank Dick C. for sending this our way.  Oftentimes, we don’t give animals much credit for having feelings / concern for others.  Today’s post proves otherwise.  It is a video of two tortoises. One tortoise is upside down, with no hope, whatsoever of ever getting right side up.  But, his situation changes when his fellow “Good Samaritan” tortoise sees the predicament that he is in.  He moves over and helps get his buddy right side up so that they both can move on with their day.  It seems that this tortoise acted like there was no other option.  Why can’t we, in the human world, be more like this tortoise?  We need to feel that their is no other option but to stop and help when we see someone in trouble.  And, as we do, we will find that OUR day (and our life) becomes much better as we spend our time helping others.  Thank you, Mr. Tortoise, for the friendly little reminder that you gave me today.

Have a GREAT day…by making it a great day for someone else!!!

ALL MOMS MUST WATCH THIS VIDEO!!

Moms are the BEST people on the Planet!!!  We want to send out a BIG thank you to Mindy C. for sharing this with us.  I know this is really a Mother’s Day video, but we felt that this shouldn’t wait.  Something inside told us that there are some Moms out there who could use this message NOW / Today!!  Why wait for Mother’s Day?  This is a great video.  I’ve watched it four times in the last day and each time, it gets to me.  I think it is so unfortunate that our Moms do so much for us, yet they are often so hard on themselves.  They see what they DON’T get accomplished and beat themselves up about it, instead of getting to see the impact that they are having on their children.  I wish every Mom in the world could have this same thing done for them.  This video asked Moms to describe themselves, but after that, they brought in their children and videotaped them, telling the camera about their Moms and what makes their Moms so special.  Moms……WE LOVE YOU!!  I hope that each and every person who sees today’s post will share this with their own Mom and other women who could use this THANK YOU and “pick-me-up” today.  And please send a message along with it.  Tell her that you know it is not Mother’s Day, but that you wanted to thank her, anyway for all she has done for you and others!!  She deserves to hear it……and I’ll bet she NEEDS to hear it, too!!  Thanks!!

Have a GREAT day…by making it a great day for someone else!!!

Man Who Saved Over 600 Children From Nazis

When people save a life, they are heroes.  When they save the life of a child, they are even bigger heroes.  How about when they save the lives of over 600 children?  Meet Sir Nicholas Winton.  This humble and unassuming man saved 669 children from the Nazi death camps.  Can you imagine the bravery it took for him to accomplish such a feat?  Now, think for a moment on how many lives have been changed forever because of all of the children he saved.  If he had saved only one child out of all those children, it would have had an impact on not only that child, but on the person that he or she ended up marrying….and the children that they had together….and the spouses that their children ended up marrying….and their grandchildren (and so on and so on).  Now, multiply that by 669 and try to imagine what good this man has done!!  Doesn’t it make you want to learn more about this man?  I don’t know how long ago this event took place, but from the looks of the attire, I’m guessing it was a while back.  However, apparently, without him knowing the tv show had gathered an audience full of the children (50 years later, all grown up) who had been saved by this man.  What a touching surprise and a welcome reward for him to be surrounded by those who owe their lives to him.  Thank you to Davilyn F. for letting us know about this SUPER-HERO, if there ever was one!!  Enjoy!!  And please share with your friends!!

One Handed Player Gets Shot at College Basketball

I LOVE BASKETBALL!!  It was a love of mine all through my growing up years.  I even played four years of college basketball.  As a result, I know just how challenging of a sport basketball is.   For this reason, I took an even keener interest in this Good News story that was forwarded to us from Nicki F.  I think I would love it anyway, because of the great message it delivers.  But, being a basketball junkie during my growing up years, it made me even more impressed.  This story is about a young man by the name of Zach Hodskins.  He is one of the best high school basketball players in the state of Georgia this year.  That is quite an accomplishment.  He has done this with only one hand.  He was born without the other hand and he just never let himself consider any other option.  He grew up playing baseball, basketball and doing anything else he wanted to do, because he had parents who never said “you can’t”. They always told him that he could do anything he wanted.  He grew up with that belief…and now he is inspiring others — not only other people with disabilities.  He is inspiring ANYONE and EVERYONE who comes in contact with him.  I hope he has a FANTASTIC senior year and that more offers come his way!!  What an impressive young man!!  I hope this video inspires each of us to understand that there is more greatness inside of us and that we will work to develop it and become even better!!

Police Officer Buys Groceries for Shoplifter

You will LOVE this story!!  A woman caught shoplifting groceries was given a second chance on life by a very kind-hearted Miami-Dade Police Officer.  Jessica Robles is a single mother of three children.  She was totally out of food and her kids were starving.  Without anywhere else to go, she went to a grocery store and started stealing some groceries.  She was caught in the act.  But, here is where the story gets good.  Police Officer, Vicki Thomas, after finding out that her kids were totally without food, realized that arresting Jessica wouldn’t solve the problem. So, even though she rightfully charged Jessica with a misdemeanor (for stealing the groceries) and Jessica will still have to appear in court — which was explained in a separate newscast that is not part of this clip — Officer Thomas decided not to arrest her.  Instead, she took $100 of her own money and bought groceries for Jessica and her children. Officer Thomas’ good deed started a chain reaction that has begun changing the life of this woman and her family.  Others who saw the news in Florida donated more money for groceries and a local business owner even decided to hire her on the spot for a job.  I LOVE THIS NEWS STORY!!  Thank you, Bill B., for letting us know about this FANTASTIC turn of events.  Typically, this woman would have been arrested for stealing groceries and her starving children would not have even known where their mother was or why she did not return home.  Instead, everything changed for the better because of the WONDERFUL heart of a great police officer.  God bless Vicki Thomas.  She went the extra mile for someone in desperate need.  In a separate clip, she said that the only requirement she gave to Jessica was that, once she was on her feet, please do something nice for someone else.  May we all look for opportunities to make the same kind of difference in the lives of others.

Fallen Soldier’s Dog Saved…Again!

If cats have nine lives, how many does this dog have?  Welcome to our “Pet / Animal” post of the week for ALGN.  And thank you to Denise S. for sending this one to us.  Some of you will remember the dog that army specialist, Justin Rollins found in Iraq.  He saved her life and after he was killed, the Rollins family worked tirelessly in 2007 to get “Hero” (the name that Justin gave her) sent to the United States to live with them.  Then, recently, this cherished dog was in a house on fire and it looked as though she was not going to make it.  She was not breathing when they found her.  They said that, even with a special oxygen mask designed for dogs, things did not look good.  However, then, a bit of a miracle took place and she started breathing.  Just 24 hours later, you could hardly tell that there had been anything wrong with Hero, the dog, at all.  Nobody can convince the Rollins family that their son, Justin, didn’t have a hand in making things work out they way that they did.  Now this wonderful dog can continue to help the Rollins family with the joy and healing she has brought since arriving from Iraq.

Good Samaritan Stops Bank Robbery With His Bare Hands

Bank security photos show what happened.  Today’s ALGN is a little bit different than what we usually show, but it is still “good news” in that the bad guy didn’t get away with a crime because of a good samaritan who came in and saved the day.  Thank you to Tim M. for sharing this story with us.  Recently, in my neighboring down of Fullerton, California, a man entered a bank and tried to hold it up, declaring that he had a gun inside his plastic bag that he was holding up.  Fortunately, for the bank (and unfortunately for the would-be bank robber), Herb Pearce was one of the customers in line.  Herb says he couldn’t believe it was happening.  As Herb started to move towards the man who was trying to rob the bank, the bank robber than pointed his “gun” (hand inside the bag — as it turned out, he was NOT armed) at Herb.  Herb jumped in and grabbed the bank robber by the arm and hit him twice, and then took him down.  In doing so, our hero broke his hand in several places.  He can’t afford health insurance and doesn’t know how he will get it taken care of.  Even the police admit that he probably saved the bank from being robbed.  Even though the police do NOT recommend that civilians get involved in trying to stop bank robberies, I would hope that some smart leader at this bank will decide to reward their “hero” for saving them a lot of money!!

A Debt Collector Who is Loved By Debtors???

A nice debt collector?  Isn’t that an oxymoron?  HAPPY MONDAY, everyone.  Let’s start your week out with a great story that was sent in to us by Linda T., one of our great ALGN fans!!  Thank you, Linda, for letting us know about a man who runs his business the right way…and 180 degrees from the way his entire industry is being run.  Nobody likes debt collectors, right?  They are usually some of the most despised people around.  When people are in debt, a phone call from a debt collector is the last thing they want.  But, phone calls from this man’s company, debtors should WANT to take.  He doesn’t hire debt collectors.  He only hires people with great customer service skills and gives them incentives to help people get out of debt.  What an amazing concept!!!  Frankly, I’m jealous.  I wish that I had thought of this idea.  This is a business that I believe in.  What a great thing this debt collector is doing.  And, watch on the video as he talks about how much more successful he is than his competition in doing business this way as a debt collector.  You will love this video…and be very impressed with this businessman.  The next time the debt collector calls, cross your fingers that it is his company calling.  Why can’t they all be this way!??

Daughters Have Triple Wedding Before Mom Passes

Not just a wedding….but a TRIPLE WEDDING!!  Today’s ALGN video is bittersweet.  Three daughters, all planning on getting married, decided to move their weddings up and hold a “triple wedding” so that their dying mother could be there for their “big day”.  This video shows some clips of their triple wedding and some words that they had for their mom, as well as some words from their father, who loves his wife (and their mother) dearly.  Their mother was dying of breast cancer, but she wanted to see them get married before passing away.  Her daughters did just that for her, moving up their triple wedding two weeks early in order to allow their mother to be there to see it.  Their mom got her wish and then, just 12 hours after witnessing the wedding of her three girls, she passed away, peacefully…with her daughters by her side.  May those three young women have wonderful marriages that will continue to honor their Mom, just as they did on their wedding day!!  Thank you to Denise S. and Colette D. for sharing this Good News story with us so that we could share it with you!!
