National Day of Prayer – Tomorrow, May 1

I am posting this today so that you would have the opportunity to take part in this national event.  This year the National Day of Prayer is scheduled for tomorrow, May 1.  The video I selected was created for the Tacoma, Washington area but was so well done that it could be used anywhere.  Ten other countries have also adopted the first Thursday in May as a National Day of Prayer.  Over 42,000 prayer groups are gathering together to pray for each other, our country and our world.  God wants to hear from us.  They are coming together at homes, at parks, in schools and in churches.  Coming together to become one voice through prayer.

I believe prayer works.  Take this time to join a group or if you can’t, just spend some time in prayer tomorrow.  Pray for your family.  Pray for your church.  Pray for your friends.  Pray for your community.  I am sure we all agree that this country could use some prayer.  Even pray for your enemies.   There are many people who could use your prayers.  No matter what your denomination we can all unite together this one day.

Have a GREAT day…by making it a great day for someone else!!!

“Let It Go” from Frozen Sung in 25 Languages

Winter is finally behind us for many parts of the country. Time to stop thinking about snow and cold for now.  Just “let it go”.   Sometimes news is just not news.  Sometimes you just need a song to sing.  Today’s news is just that.

Disney is famous for putting a tune in our heads. Some days it just helps get us through the day.  This is one of those songs. Recently this song (Let it Go) became so popular that Disney even re-released the movie in a sing-a-long version.  You just can’t get it out of your head. In this video you focus not on the words but on the delivery.  Watch this and you will “see” the song a way you might not have thought about.  This video shows us the song being sung by many different artists in their native tongue.  All so different but yet when you close your eyes they seem to be all the same.  How amazingly similar we all are no matter what our language.    Now sit back and just enjoy this song as you never have before.

Thanks Disney once again for a great song and a great message to be yourself.

Have a GREAT day…by making it a great day for someone else!!!

Car Wash That Cares for People as Much as Cars

Thanks to Patricia M for letting us know about this great story.  This report appeared last week originally on NBC Nightly News.  It is a story about a car wash.  Not just any car wash but a car wash that cares more about people than cars.  This business was founded by John and Thomas D’Eri in Parkland, Florida.  They created a supportive environment where young adults with autism could thrive and achieve independence.  Rising Tide Car Wash primary mission is to employ adults with autism.  This includes John’s son and Thomas’ brother 21 year old Andrew D’Eri.

The key to their success is that day to day the job doesn’t change much.  He employs 35 individuals.  They train, support and personally care for their employees.  The employees provide a quality first-rate car wash experience for their customers.  They have no government subsidies.   They created this business for the purpose to help these young people work and earn a living.

What a great way to start a business with the purpose of helping others with their lives.  Setting people up for success and then supporting them towards that goal.  What an admirable adventure.

Homerun Hitter gets #500 and the Ball

It is spring so we should talk baseball.  Something great happened on Tuesday of this week.  Thank you to Denise S.  for bringing us this story.  Albert Pujols (from the California Angels) hit home run number 500 at Nationals Park in Washington DC.  This is quite an accomplishment in baseball.   After these milestones the player always wants the ball to commemorate the occasion.  On this date it was caught by a fan who was visiting all the way from California.  This fan was Tom Sherrill who is a member of the Air Force.  Sherrill caught it after it hit Chris Gordon from Olney, Md in the abdomen.

Chris timed his run down the steps perfectly, until the force of the ball hitting his midsection caused him to lose his balance.  Sherrill was on his way up and easily scooped up the ball.  ”It was all Teamwork”, said Sherrill.  Sherrill invited Gordon and his sons to come along for the post-game handoff to give the ball back to the player who hit it.  Pujols gave autographed caps and balls to all of them.  They all agreed that Pujols should have the ball – with no money changing hands.   What a nice moment for a great ballplayer and a cool move from the fans.

10 year old Saves Self by Singing

Another amazing kid story.  Thanks to Sarah M for letting us know about this brave boy.  Almost 10 year old Willie Myrick said he was in his front yard and bent down to pick up money when somebody grabbed him and threw him in a car.  When asked what happened, Willie told authorities,  ” He grabbed me and then he told me he didn’t want to hear a word from me.”   That’s when Willie began singing a gospel song called “Every Praise”.   And he sang and he sang and he sang.   He was singing  the song for about three hours until the kidnapper let him out of the car.  What a brave little man he was.  What courage that took.  Once he was released the little boy ran to a nearby home and asked the resident to call his guardian.  So far there are no leads to the man who tried to take little Willie Myrick.

I believe that God gives us the courage and strength we need during difficult times if we call on him.  Willie is certainly a believer and he knew how to call on the Lord for help during this horrible ordeal.   We all need to have faith like Willie in our own situations.

Band Plays for Injured Fan After Crash at Concert

Thanks go out to Denise S. for bringing us this story.  This story happened in March when a festival was being held in Austin Texas.  Mason Endres was attending South by Southwest festival to see one of her favorite bands.  The teen was seriously injured when a car slammed into a crowd of pedestrians at the South by Southwest festival in Austin.  Endres suffered a fractured neck, broken leg and broken nose. She had a rod placed into her leg and surgery to repair a blocked artery in the other leg.  Hearing of her injury, the band(Jared & the Mill) made an appearance at the hospital to not only see but perform for their devoted injured fan.  Mason sang along from her hospital bed as Jared & the Mill performed in her room. The private concert was recorded by the Austin American-Statesman.

This is a band that knows what having fans is all about.  It is great to see them take the time to visit the injured fan in the hospital.  You can just see the joy on the face of Mason as they perform one of her favorite songs.  It is all about your fans and this group know that.

15 Year Old Saves Horses from Burning Barn

Today’s post was brought to us by Davilyn F.  Thank you for bringing us this story.  So far it seems that this week our stories are all about young heroes.  This story is from a while ago.  It is a story of 15 year old Madison Wallraf who loves horses.   One day the barn that holds the horses caught fire.  Disregarding the warning from her grandfather, she runs into the burning barn many times to release the horses from their stalls and to lead them to safety.  The smoke was so bad at one point that she had to crawl into the barn to get to the horses.  She was able to save many with no regard to her own safety.  Running into a burning building in hopes of saving someone  or something is hard.  Imagine the courage it takes to return to the smoke and flames time and time again to save more.  She did everything she could.  What an amazing young woman.

Have you seen a great story that you would like us to share?  Please send me a private message or email me at alittlegoodnewsmail@gmail.com. We all need A Little Good News each day.

Twin 7 Year Olds Fight Off Carjacker

Your kids are in the car when a carjacker takes your car. A parent’s worst nightmare. Here is what happened…You get the kids in the car to head for church.  You check and realize you forgot a bottle for the baby.  (Now this report says the mom runs in the house to get it.  I heard in another report that the father ran in for the bottle and the mother was standing near the car.) As they wait for the father to return a person jumps into the car and speeds away.  What can you do?  In this case they don’t have another car to give chase.   This is when the twin 7 year olds take over.  One of the boys continually hits the carjacker and the other hits him with a rubber snake.  The boys won’t stop.  Shortly the man pulls over and puts both boys and their 12 month old brother out of the car and then takes off.

The boys are afraid to talk to strangers until they see a little girl playing in her yard so they talk to her.  Imagine the joy of these parents when they get the call that their kids are ok.  How brave are these two boys to fight off the carjacker and save themselves and their little brother. This one could have ended much worse if it wasn’t for these two brave boys.   Be aware of your surroundings at all times and watch out for one another.

Sportsmanship Comes in all Sizes

Sportsmanship.  We expect it in the adults that play the games we love but often times don’t see it. Thanks to Tiffany G. for sending us today’s message.   This is a story of a young boy who went to a ball game to have a good time and probably hoping for a souvenir.  When the ball got thrown to him (by the mistake of a security man- when the ball was under thrown to another) he immediately tosses the ball over to the boy to which it was intended.  What an awesome display of true sportsmanship.  We are not sure if he received anything for his unselfish act but you can see by the expression in his face that he knew it was the right thing to do.  Way to go Brendan.  This act of  sportsmanship is admirable.  He did something because he wanted to and not because he was told to.

What can you do today to make someone happy?  This simple act thrilled the boy who received the ball.  My guess is the boy that gave him that ball was also made happy in this simple act of kindness.  You too will receive joy when you give it away.

Amazing 3 Year Old Artist

We all have our hidden talents.  Some appear as we grow older.  This story is about a young child who is already showing his talent as an artist.  Zach (who is only 3 in this video) uses only his fingers to create some amazing pictures.  Watch as the artist does his work.  He taps and taps as the picture develops.  Don’t we all wish that we had just some of the talent of this little artist.  Just image what he will be able to do when he grows up.   Look inside and find the artist in you.  Share your talents (whether it be art or music or whatever your talent is) to bring joy to others.
