Family Brings Joy to Terminally Ill Woman

When our family is sick we want to do anything to make it better.  Sometimes there is nothing we can do to cure the sitation.  But we can always find ways to bring joy to those we love. Thank you to Pierre C for bringing us this story.

This is a story of a family which created a Flash Mob to show Amy just how much they love and appreciate her.  Amy’s family said it was hard  to watch her go through so much pain with a diagnosis of ovarian cancer.   They wanted to let her know how much she means to everyone.  People came from 5 different states to create a flash mob of 50+ people to show Amy her motto of “being present and living in the moment”.  What a wonderful gift for this lady and a rememberence for all of them.  How wonderful to share your joy with someone who is hurting to bring a break from the reality of the situation.  The true reality of this was the love that was being shared by all those involved to Amy.  You can just see the abolute joy she had in the event.  What a gift.

Homeless Man Gets A Home – Update

Today I have a update to a story we brought you on March 6 (you can go back and see the first story by visiting alittlegoodnews.com and go to the archives).  Thank you to Kimberly C for finding this update and letting us know so we can share it with everyone.  Eric (the homeless man) was given $1000 winning lottery ticket from Magic of Rahat(a guy who usually pulls pranks to get reactions from his victims).  To his surprise Eric offered to share his winnings with Magic. This message went viral and people from everywhere wanted to help Eric so they set up a fundraising site.  In 17 days they raised $44,000 to help Eric.  Magic took the money and rented a house for Eric.  He also bought the things he would need for the house and set up a fund for Eric.

When he went to tell Eric (who was living at motel with his lottery winnings) he was surprised himself to find out that Eric got himself a job.  Magic then took Eric to his new house and the joy is indescribable.  How amazing it is when you help someone in need.  I think Magic got just as much joy out of watching Eric and seeing what his “prank” really accomplished.

Just watch this video (it is a little longer than most of our videos- but there is so much to tell).

Police Officer Befriends Youth In Need

Too many times police get a bad rap.  Here is a story about a police officer who saw a need and filled it.  Officer Gaetano Acerra from South Carolina was on duty when he met 13 year old Cameron Simmons.  Cameron had a fight with his mom and he called the police and said he didn’t want to live there anymore. Officer Acerra noticed when he took the boy home that he didn’t have some of the necessities of life including a bed.  Then (with the help of donations from others) he provided Cameron with a Queen size bed, desk, chair, TV and video game system to bring joy to the young man.  Cameron even told him that his back won’t hurt anymore from sleeping on the floor.  Officer Acerra got more than attention for this kind act.. he got a forever friend.

See a need and do what you can to help.  That is what this story is about.  Thanks to Officer Acerra for all he does to protect his city and to bring joy to others.

Superheroes Giving Kids Smiles

It’s a bird, It’s a plane, no it’s a window washer.  That’s right, a window washer at a Children’s Hospital in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Oklahoma, Ohio and even Britain.  These superheroes have been appearing at  Children’s Hospital over the past year.  They are there to not only clean the windows but to bring joy to the boys and girls who were staying at the hospital.  And boy did it bring joy.  Just look at the faces on those kids when these characters would swing by on the ropes they would normally use to just do their job.  I believe the window washers got as much joy out of doing this as the kids did watching them.  They are superheroes to these little ones and I think they are superheroes to us too.   What can you do to be a superhero to someone in your life?  Take a moment and see how an average act of kindness for someone can turn into a super act to others.  Be a superhero in someone’s life.

A Memorial Day Tribute

Memorial Day is a time to remember those who have lost thier lives serving our country. In honor of the men and women who have given so much we offer this beautifully done video.   This is one of those holidays where we can easily forget the real purpose.  We sometimes get caught up with the launch of summer, with barbecues with friends and family.  We enjoy our day off from work but do we really take the time to remember.  To remember those who lost their lives to preserve our freedom.   If you cannot attend any of the observances this is a good way to reflect on the sacrifices these people have made for our country.

We thank all who have lost a family member through service to this great nation.  We can never forget those who spent many days, weeks and even years away from their families and too often not return home. Memorial Day is to remember….and to honor.

Remember these great words, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” -John Fitzgerald Kennedy.

Rolling Thunder Rolls On Again

Today’s video is from 2010 but it is also happening today.  This weekend is the annual Rolling Thunder ride in Washington DC. Rolling Thunder’s mission is to educate, facilitate, and never forget by means of a demonstration for service members that were abandoned after the Vietnam War. Rolling Thunder has also evolved into a display of patriotism and respect for all who defend our country.  It happens every year over Memorial Day weekend.  The Rolling Thunder First Amendment Demonstration Run is an annual ride and gathering that first started in 1988. Riders from around the nation, and even around the world rally in the Pentagon parking lots and begin the run through the streets of Washington, D.C. Afterward, it is an opportunity to meet old and new friends, pay respect at the memorials and participate in the Memorial Day events.  The run is open to all who wish to show their support.  The run is always on the Sunday before Memorial Day Observance.

This video shows a lone Marine who saluted the riders by standing in honor of his fallen comrades.  You can see that he at times he is overwelmed with the tribute.

If you can’t be in Washington DC this weekend take a moment to watch this and feel apart of a great tradition of honor and respect for our veterans and active military.  We won’t forget.

He Turned a Crib into A Memorial

Here is a heart wrenching story that a went from tragedy to a random act of kindess.  Thank you to Sara M. for showing us this beautiful story.  It is a story that starts out with the biggest fear for a family that is expecting a baby.  Instead of bringing home a baby Valerie was saddened to deliver a still born baby.  Once she returned home empty handed she had to go through the hard task of what to do with the nursery. After many months she reluctantly held a yard sale but at first could not part with the crib.  It was hard to see it everyday but even harder to part with it.   That’s where Gerald comes in.  He is a retired craftsman who creates benches in his garage.  While he wandered the garage sale his wife spoke with Valerie and asked how old her baby was (since she had infant clothes and a crib for sale).  She shared her sad story.  Gerald bought the crib and on the way home found out her story from his wife and decided to make a bench for Valerie.  He converted the crib into a beautiful bench and returned it back to the mother.  What a beautiful tribute to this lost child and such a touching gift to this family from a stranger who cared.

Well Behaved Children Rewarded

How many times have you gone to a nice restaurant and were surrounded by children there with their parents.  Many times the kid’s behavior is not exactly appropriate for a nice restaurant.  Then there are the times when you see a group of children who are well behaved and know how to act.  I have many times stopped at a table to speak to the parents and compliment them on their well behaved children.  It takes patience and effort to train your children to behave in a restaurant so not only you but the people around you can have a good experience.

This story is about a restaurant who rewards the family with a discount when their children behave well.  What a great idea for the restaurant to do this.  The parent said she has some ideas on how to have well behaved children at a restaurant.  She suggests 1) taking them out 1-2 times a month to a nice restaurant 2) Give them a snack before you go 3) Make sure they are well rested 4) Notice the music and decor and discuss it with them during the meal.   Those are some great suggestions.  Sharing these life experiences with children groom them to be well behaved adults.  We salute these parent for their parenting skills and to the restaurant for rewarded them for their efforts.  Thanks to Pierre C for finding this great story for us.

Celebrate Mom Again

I know we just had Mother’s Day.  But everyday should be Mother’s Day.  There were so many wonderful Mother’s stories out there and I just couldn’t let a whole year go by without sharing this one.  Our Moms are always there for us forever. You may grow up and become an adult but you will always be your Mother’s child.  They can’t help it.  They will be there for us when we are sick and when we are well.  They are there for us when we need someone to just listen or someone to give advice.  Don’t wait until a special day to tell Mom that you appreciate her.  Tell her whenever you can and as often as you can.   Moms make us into who we are.  Moms continue to help us grow into who we are going to become.  So thank you Moms. Thanks again and again and again.  Let’s make every day Mother’s Day. Be sure to share this video with everyone.

If you hear of a great story for us to share be sure to let us know.  There is nothing better than a little good new everyday.

Roommates Do The Right Thing – Return Cash

Now here is a good story about roommates that do the right thing.  Thanks to Annette D and Jody J for sending us this inspiring story.  This is one of those “What would you do?” stories.   A group of roommates in upstate New York went to a Salvation Army store looking for a couch for their apartment.  They bought the couch in March and having sat on it for sometime they noticed it was a bit “lumpy”.  One of them unzipped the cushion to discover a bag with money it.  As they searched the couch they found more and more.   After counting it they discovered the total came to over $40,000.  They also found a deposit slip with a woman’s name.  They all agreed that the right thing to do was return the cash to the rightful owner.  It turns out it belonged to a 91 year old woman who when she was ill her children sold her furniture not knowing she was storing her retirement money in the couch.

Isn’t it wonderful to hear of young people with such huge hearts to do the right thing and return the cash to the owner.  It makes us all think, “What would I do?”  I am sure most of us (if not all) would do just that, return the money.
