Amazing Halloween costumes for wheelchair bound

Thanks to Huffington Post for this awesome video.  This is a video about what a family will do to include their little girl who spends most of her time in a wheelchair. PeytonMcCubbin’s homemade costumes are impressive and inspiring for families with children is similar situations. The family began creating these costumes when she was just in preschool. They have created everything from Disney princesses to Santa Claus.  This year they have a Star Wars theme. Peyton is now 12 and is still interested in trick or treating with her little brother, Cade .  They make these for her to feel she is a part of the holiday.  Once they became so popular the family began entering these in contests to help with the cost of building the costumes.  The whole family gets involved.  What a wonderful way to include a child that would be left out on a holiday like this one.  Take what this family does and use it to show interest in a child in need.  Thanks McCubbin family for inspiring us to help others.  Happy Halloween to everyone out there and have a safe fun filled time.

Like a Girl – think about it

This video has had more than 49 million views.  If you haven’t seen it yet, watch it, share it.  This has an amazing message for all girls out there.  When we use the expression “like a girl” it is a hard knock against young girls and all women.  Documentarian and filmmaker Lauren Greenfield put this video together as a commercial for Always femine products but also for much more. “When the words ‘like a girl’ are used to mean something bad, it is profoundly disempowering. I am proud to partner with Always to shed light on how this simple phrase can have a significant and long-lasting impact on girls and women. I am excited to be a part of the movement to redefine ‘like a girl’ into a positive affirmation.”  She took her position and an opportunity to share the message that “like a girl” doesn’t have to mean something negative.  What do you think of this video?  How can you take this message and help to spread it to people you know.  Thanks Lauren.  I think this message was long overdue.

One stitch closer- The Empowerment Plan

Here is an amazing story of a woman named Veronika Scott.  She is 24 years old and is the CEO and founder of The Empowerment Plan in Detroit.  She grew up as a child of addicts.  Growing up unsure of her future sh received a scholarship to go to college.  While she was in a class the teacher presented the class with an assignment to design something that will fill actual needs. She did her research at homeless shelters.  After many prototypes she created a coat that was a coat during the day but would open up and had a pocket at the bottom that you could slip your feet in and velcro shut like a sleeping bag.  This seemed like a solution until one day when a lady came out of the shelter (as she was there getting feedback on the coat) and came out yelling at the “We don’t need coats.  Coats are pointless.  We need jobs”.  she was right.  The coat was just a bandaid.  She began hiring only people from the homeless shelter and training them to be independent.  What an amazing idea.  She is empowering them to do anything they want.  Way to go Veronika.  You are our hero.  Thanks to Patricia M for suggesting this story.

Community Surrounds Boy with Love

TISSUE ALERT!!  Thanks to Patricia M for sharing this story with us.  This story will break your heart but it also brings joy that a community will come together to bring joy to a little boy.  Little Ethan Van Leuven is suffering from acute lymphoblastic leukemia.  Ethan is 4 and has been fighting this awful disease for most of his short life.  Recently the family was told that there is no hope for treatment for Ethan.  Now, to bring joy to their little boy, the family with the help of the community of West Jordan, Utah are bringing the holidays to Ethan this week one at a time.  Yesterday was Halloween for Ethan in West Jordan.  The costumes came out and candy was everywhere.  What an adorable little superman he was.  Holidays continue this week with Ethan’s birthday celebration on Thursday (about a month early) and Friday will be a big Christmas eve celebration by the community and Saturday the family will celebrate Ethan’s favorite holidsay Christmas.  Even the local radio station will play Christmas music for Ethan.  What a wonderful way to help this little boy have some joy during this difficult time.  Thank you to the community of West Jordan for all you are doing to make this dream come true.  But most of all Ethan, you are our hero today.  We hope you enjoy your holidays this week as much as everyone will in bringing them to you.  Happy Halloween, Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas to you Ethan from ALittleGoodNews.com.

Hockey player is not such a tough guy

If you know anything about hockey players you know that they are tough guys.  I have heard of some players who are injured during the game and come back to play after pulling out their own teeth.  But no matter how tough they are they have big hearts.  Here is a story about a hockey player from the St. Louis Blues.  Defensemen Alex Pietrangelo is one of those guys.  Alex has a niece Ellie who is battling cancer.  Ellie is a 5 year old.  She has gone through a lot for her young years.  Alex felt that as she loses her hair he could help make her feel better by allowing her to shave his hair.  He is doing this just to help her.  He talks about how much she means to him and what a special little girl she is.  His teammates are very supportive of this action.  He says it is not about him but about her struggles.  What a wonderful uncle to put himself out there just to make a little girl happy.  I have seen many stories about people who are upporting their loved ones who are suffering from cancer by shaving their heads.  We need to do what we can to Stand Up 2 Cancer.  You can too.  Support a Stand U2Cancer event in your community.  It may not cure cancer but it will bring joy to the life of someone who is suffering from this terrible disease.

You are enough!

Todays video is a message that doesn’t get said often enough.  Too often we go around thinking we could have done something more.  We never give enough. We don’t do enough.  But many of us keep that inside and don’t realize what others are thinking.  Do you tell your family how much they mean to you?  Have you told your kids how special they are?  Have you shared with a coworker how much you appreciate what they do?  There are two sides to this video.  The one side, of course, is the one they are sharing today.  You are enough.  You are appreciated.  People notice all that you do.  They may not tell you.  They don’t take the time to say it.  But that doesn’t mean that they don’t feel it or notice it. Be that person that takes the time. Be that person that tell them how you feel.  Be that person for someone else.  And… when they are that person and tell you… believe it. Know that you are special and that you matter. All those thing have not gone unnoticed. Share this video with those that matter to you.  Show them that you care today.  You will be glad you did.

Will you create the ripple?

Today’s video is not news. Sometimes these great “little movies” are so moving and touching that I like to share them because the message is a great one.  Here is a story created in a distant land but this story could be happening in your hometown. It again shows us that we need to watch for those little opportunities that come upon us and allow us to “create a ripple”.  Years ago someone started a ripple by “paying it forward”.  People everyday do it again by buying someones coffee or buying diapers for a mom who doesn’t have enough money or buying the meal of the folks at the drive-in behind your car.  These little efforts touch the people around us so much.  Those small acts can be the act that touches someone to return the favor to someone else.  What if everyone saw a need and acted?  What would it take for you to act? I know when the time comes you will step up for that need for someone else.  Let’s do it today…. let’s create the ripple!!

Helping Homeless through Music

What can we do to help the homeless?  Sometimes it seems this is too big for me to help.  What can just a few people do?  Well, here is a video that shows what a small group of people in New York City did to help one homeless man.  They asked the same thing.  What could I do?  Then they got together and decided that that there was something that they could do.  They went out and found a guy that had a sign and needed some help.  They sat down and just started singing.  What a perfect song too.  I love the reaction of the homeless man.  He was a part of a group for a while (which I think brought him much joy).  He also was so touched to see what happened when they started to sing.  People walking by were willing to help when the music started.  Thanks to this group who call themselves the Model Pranksters.  They helped show the people of New York and everyone watching this video that you can help.

Police Handle Serious Situations Differently

I seem to be finding a lot of “Good Cop” police stories recently.  I don’t think you can ever have too many.  Here is one from earlier this year.  I think this is a different kind of police story.  This one seems to be written by an ice cream company.  I still think it makes for a good story.  I am not sure how I would feel if I got pulled over for this but it was fun to watch it happen to someone else.  The moral of the story is to enjoy life and don’t always take things so seriously.  I think these police officers enjoyed being able to be the “good cops” this time.  Have fun with this story and be sure to share it with others.

Have you seen a great story that you would like us to share?  Send it to me via our facebook page or by emailing me at alittlegoodnews@gmail.com.  We would love to hear from you about other good news stories.  We can never get too many good news stories.  Thanks in advance for sharing with us so we can share with others.

Town Rallies to Save Local Store

This is a story of a small town friend.  Avi is the owner of a local store in Levittown, New York.  Avi has been working in his store since it opened over 10 years ago.  His store took a big hit during the recession.  He works 7 days a week, 12 hours a day.  He keeps track of all the local happenings.  The town loves him as much as he loves them.  When the town heard that he might have to close they all showed up at the store and one by one came into the store and bought one thing after another.  He was overcome when he came outside and saw all the people who had come to pitch in and help him keep his store.  That is caring for your neighbors.  Way to go Levittown.  That is what a small town does when one of it’s own needs help.
