A True Dedication

This is a story of an incredible woman.  As a young girl she made a comittment to a man that she didn’t even know.  Back in the 70s  when the Vietnam war was happening many people took a vow to wear a MIA bracelet for a soldier that was missing in action.  Many days, months and years went by.  Some men returned home and the people wearing their bracelet would be able to remove the bracelet once they returned home.  Not for one soldier and the girl who was wearing his bracelet.  After 4 decades she gets the word that his remains were located.  It was Christmas day 1972 when 12 year old Kathy Strong found her bracelet in her stocking.  She took her committment very seriously.  She wore this bracelet and never took it off.  She said she even wore it through an MRI.  This was not a promise that she took lightly.  She wore the name James Moreland until she was told that his remains were found and were brought home to be buried. She didn’t remove the bracelet until she could put it on his uniform in his coffin. She sat with his family at the funeral even though she had never met this man.  She had always dreamed of the day when she would take off the bracelet and meet the man she was wearing it for.  What dedication to follow through a promise you made as a child long into your adult life.  Thank you for your servie Kathy.

Officer Adopts the “Unadoptable” Student

In Spartensburg School district they have School Resource Officers who are walking the halls to help protect the students ever since the Sandy Hook incident.  Kids, as well as the faculty. need to feel safe at school.  This is the school where Officer  Master Deputy Mike Gibson walks the halls.  The students say they love to see the officers walking around.  As Deputy Gibson gets to know the students he met a young boy that was  in foster care.  He first started calling him Police Officer  then Officer Mike, then Officer Dad and now Dad.  He had been in and out of 8-9 foster homes.  Officer Gibson talked to his wife and they agreed that they should take in this needy child.  This boy was considered unadoptable due to behavior They had to go through many hours of training to become Foster parentsl  Officer Gibson said this is the first time in all his years in law enforcement that he felt God telling him that he needed to help this boy. After months of training the Gibsons were able to add this boy to their family (they already had 3 children).  What a great gift they gave to this little boy.  Thank you for taking care of these little ones and adopt them.  You two are great people.  Thank you to all you people who take in Foster Children and give them a healthy home.

School is Back so Watch for those Buses

School is back for some and will probably be for all next week.  This is a fun video created by a mom and her neighbors to remind all of us to watch out for the children and of course the buses. It is a parady of the old rap Bust a move …. now Bus and Move. How clever and cute all those kids and even the bus driver.  Have some fun and share this with every mom who has kids heading off to school.  They will relate.  It is just a fun song for all those who either have kids going to school or remember what it was like when the kids went back to school.  Summer is over.  Get ready for Fall.  Watch out for those kids standing at the bus stops and just try to get this tune out of your head after you watch.

A Kind Heart Helping Others

Laraine Dawn Young was on vacation last month in Makati with her boyfriend Chris, when she experienced a wordless act of kindness by him that so melted her heart, she had to grab her phone to record the scene as it was unfolding. He stopped what he was doing and did something helping others. She called the video, “An Act of Compassion: The Man I Love Has The Most Beautiful Soul.” She tells her story: “Chris and I were walking out of our hotel in Makati when I saw some children sleeping on the sidewalk. I felt so bad for these kids – I told my boyfriend about them kids and he saw them just laying there looking tired and sickly. Unquestionably, he felt bad for them as well. He told me to watch our things because he wanted to go to the nearest convenience store – I thought maybe he was just thirsty or hungry so OK. After a few minutes, he came out with a bag of groceries and told me he’s going to give it to the kids. *I melted*

As he was crossing the street, I decided to take a video so I can keep reminding myself that I’ve been blessed with a man who is not only smart, sexy and handsome but one who is also beautiful inside and out. He didn’t know I was recording this video until he got back :)

I wanted to keep this video to myself, but I am proud of my man. I wanna share his kind deed to the world even if he deserves more recognition than this. How something so simple can mean so much to not only the ones you serve but the ones who witness you serving.  Take the time to look around and see if there is something you can do to help others.

A Little Boy Gets His Wish

Seven-year-old Giovanni, who is diagnosed with a life-threatening genetic disorder, was all smiles as his wish to meet John Cena was granted. He talks about his wish here.  This short video created by his mom aftet the boy was granted his Make A Wish request.  Pro Wrestler John Cena spent time with the little boy.  This wrestler is known for taking the time to meet with children who are ill and  sharing his philosophy of never giving up.
“Meeting John Cena has changed Giovanni’s outlook on life in the most positive ways. Now every time he needs to be seen he tells us he will never give up because John wouldn’t want him to! The amount of joy that his wish brought him cannot be described in words.” – Giovanni’s mom.  You can see the respect and admiration this little guy has for his hero.  What a great role model for this little one and others.  I have a new fond respect for this man.  This is how professional athletes should be with their fans.  Great job John Cena.

Showing Support for a Child

This video is from two years ago but I think it is the first time I heard of this story.  George H.W. Bush shaves his head to support a two-year-old with leukemia whose father is part of the Secret Service. This is just a short video of a powerful story.  When President Bush heard that a child of one of his staff was sick with leukemia.  His entire secret service staff joined him to shave their heads in honor of this little boy.  How generous of all these men to give of themselves for the honor of this little boy.  Try to find simple ways to care for others even when it may not be easy for you.  I truly respect all of these people.  Way to go guys.

What are your memories?

This is another one of those thought provoking commercials that we need to see.  Nature Valley used this time to ask 3 generations what memories they have of their childhood.  It is amazing to see the difference in each generation.  Nature has always been a part of growing up   If we do not take the time to show these young people they will miss the beauty of nature.  Whether nature is just going for a walk or growing something in the garden.  You must share and teach the next generation before it is forgotten. This is just a good reminder of what we all took for granted in our childhood.  Share with the young people in your lives.  Don’t be afraid to challenge them to do some of the things you did growing up.  They will appreciate it and will love you more for sharing it.  What are your memories?  Have you taught a young person something you learned when you were young.  Memories made together last longer.

First parking ticket ever

Here is a cute tale of a little boy who is “one of the gang”.  He has his little motorcycle, his leather jacket and he wants to be “one of the guys”.  He lives in Halifax and enjoys meeting up with other bikers and hangout.  But, rules are rules.  Recently Halifax police Const. Shawn Currie wrote a ticket for Declan Tramley, 3, after he spotted him illegally stopped on his red plastic motorcycle. The photo shows Tramley holding one hand on his forehead in grief while Cst. Currie kneels and scribbles the fake ticket. “It’s nice to show the different sides of police,” he said. “We’re not always making arrests and hauling people away … we like to have fun.” Plenty of strangers were also amused: more than 10,000 shared or liked the photo after it was posted to the Halifax Regional Police Facebook page on Sunday. Hundreds more shared it on Twitter. Tramley’s mother Lisa said it has been fun for Declan too. “He loves his ticket (now),” she said. “He tried to go to bed with his ticket.”  Such a great story showing that the police can have fun with the little ones and teach a lesson at the same time.

Babies and Dogs- What could be cuter?

What is better than babies laughing…  Babies and dogs. I selected this video today that really doesn’t have a story attached to it.  It is not news.  It is just cute.  Everyone needs something just cute once in a while. There are too many aweful things on the news and in our daily lives.  Why not just take just under 4 minutes and watch the cuteness of babies laughing at puppies.  It would keep us all younger if we could just laugh like these little ones.  Laughing is so good for you.  So, just take some time and laugh.  Laugh when you can.  It will keep you young.  Share it with those you love.

Captain Jack Visits Children’s Hospital

Say what you want about celebrities and how they do the craziest things but here is a story I am proud to share.  Johnny  Depp can be a little crazy at times.  Recently while he was filming the next movie in the Pirates of the Caribbean he took time out of filming to stop by and visit a children’s hospital.  This is not the first time he has done this type of thing. He makes the time to see children and adults who are going through difficult times and bring a little joy in their lives.  Watch this video and see the reaction of patients and even the staff of this hospital.  The pure joy of the children meeting Captain Jack Sparrow.  Johnny stays in character the whole time which delights the kids and adults as well. This has given me a new fond respect for Johnny Depp and his team from the movie.  Thank you Captain Jack.  You really made a special day for these kids that are going through so much.  They will never forget this day and it will help them remember something awesome when they might be having a bad day.  You are the best.
