Could you pick out your mom?

No words are neccessary for this lovely little video.  It was a small experiment of women’s uniqueness and the special bond between a mother and child.  They met up with 6 wonderful women, and asked them to let us blindfold their most precious loved ones. Their children!  Here is what happened: The children were guided towards the group of women, and using their senses and intuition asked to try to find the one they believed to be their mother. Anxiety, love and a bit of heartfelt tears filled the room as children from the age of 3-9 tried and succeed in finding the one and only they could call mom! All women are unique in shape, personality and heart, and so is the beautiful connection and precious love we saw this day.  This was a video commercial created for Pandora but the lesson we can learn from it is that our mom is special to each of us and we can alway find our sweet mom even if we are blindfolded.  This was truly a sweet experiment.

Boy helps firefighters find him

A 13-year-old Maryland boy impeccably directed firefighters through his burning home to the room where he and sister were Sunday morning, ultimately saving their lives.Throughout the 11-minute call, Marcus can be heard leading firefighters to his location and bravely calming his little sister down. Marcus, 13, immediately called authorities when he saw smoke inside his home.He told the 911 dispatcher he was at home with his big brother, mother, step-father and 9-year-old little sister. At one point, the sister says “We’re going to die!” and Marcus responds “Stop! Please don’t say that!” The 13-year-old  boy remained calm, taking direction from the dispatcher all while checking on his family during a fire at his family home. The teen then flawlessly explained how firefighters could find him. The 911 dispatcher worked with the boy to keep his sister calm as firefighters worked hard to get to the family.  When firefighters arrived, they broke the wrong window to rescue the children, but Marcus quickly corrected the situation. One firefighter, 25-year-old Lt. Kevin Ward, got to the scene and immediately went upstairs to rescue Marcus when he felt his little sister tugging at his leg. Lt. Ward immediately took his air mask off and put it on the 9-year-old, ABC News said. The two siblings were treated for smoke inhalation at a nearby children’s hospital. Their mother, step-dad and brother were also taken to a nearby hospital but weren’t seriously injured. What amazing young man to save his family.  Way to go Marcus.

Woman wakes from Coma

A tragic accident in East Tennessee could never be called good news.  That is not where this story ends.  Sharista Gailes was in a horrible accident that put her in a coma.  Sharista was 5 months pregnant at the time.  The doctors told her family that she would probably never wake up.  One month later she gave birth prematurly. Her little boy weighed less than 2 pounds.  He is now growing and getting bigger.  Last week her family got a call with great news.  She was awake from her coma.  She had opened her eyes and could even squeeze her hand.  Her family even watched her amazingly as she followed with her eyes a picture of her little baby.  What a joy.  What a miracle.  The doctors don’t know quite yet just how much brain activity she will get back and how much she will be able to do but this is truly a miracle times two.  Let’s all just pray for this little boy and his mama that they will be able to grow stronger together.

Eugene Police officer helps family

Eugene Police officer David Natt was working his beat recently when he noticed a car still in the parking lot of a public park at closing time.  Coming up to the car he finds a family of four who had no where to go.  It seems tht the family was moving back to Eugene and not having anywhere to go was intending to sleep in their car. The Woods family was moving back to the area and didn’t have a place to go or the funds to stay at a hotel.  But rather than kicking them out, he offers to put them up in a hotel for two nights. You see a local church had put together a fund that the police could use at their discretion.  This was one of those times.  Officer Natt wanted to help this family  He mentions his motto “Protect, Serve and Care”.  ”He made me want to do this for other” says Robert Wood.  He didn’t think people would still do things like this for others.  This fund came from a local church who decided rather than spend the money last Christmas on themselves they would donate to this fund.  So far the fund has not run out and the police have been able to use it when they need it.

This Grandma is a huge help

Emily Jordan and her husband always wanted to have the same thing that every couple wants, to start a family.  As they made plans something terrible was discovered.  Emily found out that she had cervical cancer at a young age facing a radical hysterecomy.  Emily Jordan underwent that  radical hysterectomy in 2010. She thought she and her husband would never have their own children.  The doctors were able to save ovaries. Then her mother made a surprising offer. She offered to carry their baby for them.  Who would ever imagine a 50+ year old being able to carry a child with no problems.  She was very healthy so they said it would be possible for her to do this. It was the most wonderful gift that she could give her daughter and her husband.  The love they have for this little baby is the most important thing for this Grandma.  She knows that her role in this was to deliver a healthy baby and to be the best grandma she could be. She said that this was not hard that she would even offer to do it again.  Now the fun time of spoiling this little one. Great job Grandma. Thank you to Patricia M for bringing us this story.

Easter Baskets for the Community

Easter is a time for families and friends.  This video says it all (without words) when the employees from UnitedHealthcare and UnitedHealthcare mascot Dr. Health E. Hound prepared more than 700 Easter baskets at UnitedHealthcare’s Cypress, Calif., campus and loaded them into a specially decorated truck for delivery to three nonprofits. The Boys & Girls Club of Cypress, the San Clemente Military Family Outreach and Olive Crest in Bellflower received the Easter baskets packed with goodies for kids ages 4-12. This is the tenth year that employees at the Cypress, Santa Ana and Irvine locations participate in the Easter basket drive (Video: Kevin Herglotz). How awesome for these folks to take their time and money to create these baskets for children in the community.  This is what Easter is all about.  Doing for others and sharing the love of Christ with others around you.  700 baskets… how long does it take to fill 700 baskets?  Maybe next year you and your friends can put together some for your community.  Do for others anyway you can.

His vows are inspiring

Weddings are always special.  Two people coming together to share their life forever. Sometimes this union includes children.  This is a story of a  NASCAR driver, Brian Scott made a special vow to his 3-year-old stepdaughter during his wedding recently.  This is a special time for the couple, their families and friends.  Those that were there were touched by the emotion of his promise, not only to his new wife, but to her little girl (his new step-daughter).  The love he shares with this woman and her little girl is so amazing.  How wonderful for him to share this special day and include this little girl in his promise for the rest of his life.  What a joy to this new family to see the love this man has for this woman and little girl.  I don’t know much about Nascar but I have a new respect for this guy.  Thank you for sharing your special day with us and thanks to Patricia M for finding this great story and sharing it with us.

Amazing Teacher gets surprise on Ellen

A kindergarten teacher in Albuquerque, New Mexico went to the Ellen show.  She thought she was just there to enjoy the show.  That was until Ellen called out her name.  Sonya Romero was being recognized by Ellen for her actions.   She spends the first hour of each day making sure her students have had breakfast, are wearing clean clothes and have brushed their teeth.  She feels like teachers are like “first responders” caring for their students. She tells about two students that needed help when Child Protective Services came to the school.  They had no where to go so she took in the children and they are still with her for six months now.  She has taken these children into her home as foster children.  Her students love her so much they sent her a video message of how much she means to them.  She spends her own money to buy things for her students and for her school.  Ellen even heard that a good samartan gave her $100 to help with the kids but she gave it to a lady that she met on the beach that was crying and needed help.  Ellen then let’s her know that she is giving her $10,000 to help with the kids and that Target was giving her school $10,000 also.  Way to go Sonya.  Thisis the kind of teacher our kids need.

Man reunited with Time Capsule

Have you ever thought of putting together a time capsule?  Taking things that mean something to you today and putting it in a container and hiding it to find another day.  That is what a 12 year old boy did some 37 years ago.  The 37-year-old time capsule discovered in a Fontana, California home last December has been returned to the man who hid it as a 12-year-old boy. Texas resident Robert Wright, 49, told ABC News today he flew with his father to their former home this past weekend to pick up the 1978 time capsule and its contents — a letter Wright wrote to himself, a McDonald’s scratch card game, newspaper clippings and coins. “It was surreal,” Wright said. “I never thought I’d see it again.”

What would you put in a time capsule?  What would you want people of the future to find to learn about you and the times you are living in?  What would they know about you by what you put in the capsule?  How awesome is it that they were able to return this to Robert.  I bet he never thought he would see it again.

Friend helping friend – only 7 years old

Colin Cox and Ryan Branson are old friends.  Well, they have really only known each other for two years.   Colin spent some time as little boy with a dibilitating disease.  His mom thinks it made him more compassionate.  Colin came home from school and told his mom that his friend’s house burned down. He asked his mom to make a video to help Ryan’s family.  He had lost everything and he needed help.  So Colin made a video asking for help.  Thanks to his help they have already raised over $9000 to help Ryan’s family.  How beautiful to hear these little 7 year olds talk about what Colin did, “Because that is what friends do, they help each other.”  These two are like little “old souls”.  As they say to each other at the end of the video, “Your the best friend ever. What would I do without you”.  How awesome that these two boys can show us all the true meaning of friendship and how to help each other in hard times.  Colin, you are amazing and what a great friend you truly are. You are true example to all of us.
