Boy Surprised with Vacuum

Dylan has had a facination with vacuums since he was two.  Dylan, who has autism, was never into “normal” toys, his mother Jodie told WTVR.  In an effort to help make her son’s birthday special, Dylan’s mother sent an email to the Kirby Company, the Cleveland-based makers of the Kirby vacuum.  The middle school student turned 14 over the weekend and celebrated his birthday with a party that included close friends, family and a vacuum salesman.  Dylan’s mom just wanted this birthday to be something special so she reached out to the Kirby company to send someone out to just do a demonstrations.  She even had a cake made for him with a vacuum on it.  But what she got was much more.

In addition to sending Dylan a soccer ball, a hat and a T-shirt with the Kirby logo, a Kirby salesman traveled from Fredericksburg to Chesterfield to perform a vacuum demonstration at the party. He knew more about the Kirby than I did,” an obviously impressed Al Archie said. “I have never experienced anything like that.” Archie, who has been selling vacuums for Kirby for 25 years, said he was moved by Dylan’s knowledge and was taken aback by photos of a much younger Dylan dressed up as a vacuum salesman.

At the end of the demonstration he gave Dylan a brand new Kirby vacuum.  There was not a dry eye in the house.Kirby vacuums are not a cheap, but Archie said he decided to get one for Dylan as a way to celebrate the child’s passion” said Dylan’s mom. A big thanks out to the Kirby company for making this special young man’s birthday so great.

Opening Doors – Opens Hearts

Josh was just an average kid.  When his father passed away suddenly Josh found himself the object of bullies.  They saw how upset he was and picked on him. It got so bad that he and his mom packed up and moved to the city …to a new school for a new start.  Josh knew he had to make a difference at Clark Road Secondary school.  He wanted to be someone.  He wanted to reach out to people.  He started a new tradition.  He opened doors.  People thought it was weird.  It took some time for people to get used to it. He wanted to make feel welcome and he wanted to be welcomed.  People started looking forward to seeing him.  He changed their attitudes and it changed him too.  They started to feel honored to have Josh at their school.  They even picked him as prom king.  He changed.  He started public speaking.  He started talking about his story and shared his feelings with others. He was able to  help other kids by sharing his story.  One simple act can change your whole life.  Look around and see what simple act you could do to make a difference on others.  Thanks to Patricia M for sharing this story with us.

Lisa is putting together a care package to send to the girl from the Auburn community.  She even got the Humbolt college softball coach to send something (you see she mentioned that she wants to go to college there and play softball at Humbolt. What a wonderful gift to this young girl. Lisa and the Auburn community are doing a great thing.  Thanks for caring.

Letter Mix Up Leads to Hunting Trip

It all started with the Chester County Sheriff, Alex Underwood, offering to take kids up to 12 years of age on a hunting and fishing trip. He posted the request on Facebook.  That is when 9 year old Chester County, Alex jumped at the chance and wrote to the sheriff that he wanted to go.  You see, he only has his mom and she is not well and can’t do much.  The boy hand-delivered the letter to the Sheriff’s Office, the only problem, he lives in Chester County, Pennsylvania and the invitation was from the sheriff in Chester County, South Carolina.  The sheriff in Chester County Pennsylvania did some research and contacted the Sheriff in South Carolina.   When asked Sheriff Underwood said, “If you can get him here, we can take him with us”,  So she put him on a plane and he was met in South Carolina by the Sheriff and a fleet of patrol cars.  The first thing they did was go shopping for gear.  They bought him hunting clothes and boots with money that was donated and some from the sheriff himself.  They didn’t see a deer that day but they did have a wonderful time.  The boy stayed to hunt and fish for three days before having to return home.  What a wonderful gift for this young boy.  This is a gift he will never forget.

Jack Mook is a Pittsburgh police detective.  He is a bachelor and quite a tough character.  He spends most of his time working hard.  He loves to box and even volunteers at the Steel City Boxing Gym.  He teaches the sport to street kids, most of them born into poverty.  He met 11 year old Jess and his 15 year old brother Josh there at the gym.  They like each other and worked well with Jack.  That is why he was concerned when they stopped showing up at the gym.  Jack went out looking for them and found the older brother.  He looked bad. He told Jack that he was in a bad way.  They had foster parents that were abusive and negectful.  So Jack got the kids placed in a new home…his.  He has been their foster parent for over two years now.  He says the homework is really hard.  He loves being their foster day.  That was until this past September… he adopted them.  They couldn’t be happier.  It is the best thing that could have happend to all of them.  Way to go Officer Mook.  Way to see a problem and find a solution.  Maybe not the easiest solution but one that you knew was right.

Crossing Guard Gets New Ride

10 years ago Nathaniel Kendrick (Mr. Kent) retired  form the city of Dallas and became the local school crossing guard.  He is a favorite of the community. He is taking care of his ill wife and times are tough.  The families of the school love “Mr. Kent”.  They think the world of him.  Recently with all the bills adding up Mr. Kent had his car repossessed.  Some families from the school where he works found out about it and decided to do something.  Several Dads got together and bought him a new car.  They drove it up and parked it in the crosswalk knowing he would say something about the car being in the way.  He asked them to move the car and they told him that he could move it since it was his car.  He was quite overcome and couldn’t believe that they would do such a thing. There is true love between this man, the kids at the school and the families of the community.  What a great community to live in where you care so much for each other.  Thank you to Mr. Kent for being such a wonderful friend to the children he cares for and thank you to the community for showing him just how important he is.

Twins Separated at Birth Reunited on Facebook

Samantha Futerman who lives in Los Angeles woke up one morning to a Facebook post from someone who said they saw her on You Tube. The messenger said that she looks a lot like her and after doing some research discovered that they were both born in town (Busan, South Korea) and on the same day.  After learning they were both adopted Anais, a French fashion Designer agreed to meet on Skype.  Once they saw each other it was clear that they were not only sisters but twin sisters that had been separated at birth.  They chatted for over three hours and agreed to meet.  They met in London and then again in LA.  They decided to be certain they would do a DNA test.  As expected their DNA matched.  Samantha admited to her sister that when she was little she had an imaginary friend she called Anne.  They even took a trip together back to Korea.  How amazing that these two could be worlds apart but find each other on social media and reconnect via Facebook.  Now after being apart for 30 years they have one thing for sure.  They have an entire future to spend together.  They have now createda full-length documentary to share their touching story of being separated at birth, abandoned, adopted and later reunited.  If you are interested in their story you can check out their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/twinstersmovie

Family Poses with Santa for 60 years

Merry Christmas to Everyone.  Here is a wonderful Christmas story of family (The Wilsons) who has been sitting on Santa’s lap for the past 60 years.  What a wonderful tradition.  There was only one year (1978) when they were all not in the picture.  Every year without argument they go to the store and stand in line to see Santa and have their picture taken. As years went by they even included the spouses.  What a wonderful tradition.

We all have holiday traditions.  Some include Santas and some include trees and some include the manger.  This is the time of year for traditions.  Learn the true meaning of Christmas with your family and friends. Spend a few moments watching this family’s tradition and then make some of your own.  Share your life with others.   May the joy of the season fill your lives and the lives of your family. We have enjoyed sharing these and other Christmas stories with you this holiday season.  From A Little Good News to all of you… Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.
