Christmas Surprise Traffic Stops

Here is a great story from Lowell, MI.  The Police of Lowell decided that they wanted to do something for their community while performing routine traffic stops.  They arranged a group of people to pull off something no one would ever suspect.  They had folks at the local department store.  They had folks waiting by ready to wrap.  They had folks waiting by cars to deliver.  Now for the plan.  The local police officer would stop the car for a simple traffic violation or something.  He would then have a conversation with the driver on what they were doing for Christmas.  Things like if they had their shopping done and what they were getting for their friends and family.  He then would walk back to his car and radio to the store.  They would pick up the merchandise, get it wrapped and deliver back to police car.  He then would walk the gift to the person.  I loved seeing the surprise and the joy and gratitude they had for the officer.  It is nice to see a community and their police officers working together for good.  Great job Lowell, Mi.  You are a classy community. Merry Christmas to you.

Christmas Surprise Traffic Stops

The littlest UPS driver ever

This time of year you see lots of delivery trucks driving around the neighborhood.  But if you live in Colorado Springs you might just be surprised at this one delivery person.  4 year old Carson has always had a facination for big trucks.  When he was little he needed to have special milk so weekly the UPS truck would pull up at his house.  At first he was a little scared of the truck but soon after meeting the driver, Mr. Ernie, he started waiting by the window to see him.  He even got his own uniform to wear when Mr. Ernie was coming.  Carson is facinated by everything about UPS.  One day Mr. Ernie had a huge surprise for him.  With the help of UPS he got Carson his own UPS truck.  He was so excited.  He created his own packages and map and started his deliveries.  Mr. Ernie and Carson have a special bond that will never change.  They are two special friends.  Thanks to UPS and Mr. Ernie for granting this wish for a young boy who just wanted to be a deliver man like his friend.

Garth makes the night of a cancer patient

Here is a video (not a news report) of a concert at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Garth Brooks was performing his song , “The Dance”.  During the song he sees a woman hold up the sign that says, ”Chemo this morning, Garth tonight. Enjoying the dance”.  They bring the woman forward and Garth sees her sign.  Most celebrities might acknowledge with a nod or a wave.  But not Garth Brooks.  He takes the time to walk down, get down on her level sing to her and then give her his guitar.  He also speaks of how sometimes he wishes that God would sometimes just stick out his hand down from the sky and spell I exist.  Then he said, “I want to tell you right now… God just stuck his hand out. This is one of those times.” Then he told her that his wish for her was to kick cancer.  What an awesome gift for this woman who is going through such a difficult time.  You are a class act Mr. Brooks.  Never too big.  Never too famous.  He knows who made him this famous.  His fans.  He respects that and honors them.  I may not be the biggest country music fan but I am now a Garth Brooks fan.

Neil Diamond helping shelter dogs

October was “Adopt A Shelter Dog” month.  Neil Diamond was launching his new album and he used this opportunity to help bring this message about shelter dogs in the public.  Here is part of his music video for his new song “Something Blue” in which he uses shelter dogs in his video.  This group of dogs were from the Colorado Animal Rescue.  The result is adorable and the scenery is not bad either.  Not only is Neil Diamond promoting his music but he is also bringing attention to shelter dogs and he even adopted two of them after the filming.  Talk about using music to help others!  What a great message to us all that we need to help animals by taking in shelter animals to be our pets.  If you can’t adopt a shelter dog why not make a donation to your local animal rescue to help out. Please enjoy this portion of this music video and support your local animal shelter. Thanks Neil too, I always knew you were a class act.

Like a Girl – think about it

This video has had more than 49 million views.  If you haven’t seen it yet, watch it, share it.  This has an amazing message for all girls out there.  When we use the expression “like a girl” it is a hard knock against young girls and all women.  Documentarian and filmmaker Lauren Greenfield put this video together as a commercial for Always femine products but also for much more. “When the words ‘like a girl’ are used to mean something bad, it is profoundly disempowering. I am proud to partner with Always to shed light on how this simple phrase can have a significant and long-lasting impact on girls and women. I am excited to be a part of the movement to redefine ‘like a girl’ into a positive affirmation.”  She took her position and an opportunity to share the message that “like a girl” doesn’t have to mean something negative.  What do you think of this video?  How can you take this message and help to spread it to people you know.  Thanks Lauren.  I think this message was long overdue.

One stitch closer- The Empowerment Plan

Here is an amazing story of a woman named Veronika Scott.  She is 24 years old and is the CEO and founder of The Empowerment Plan in Detroit.  She grew up as a child of addicts.  Growing up unsure of her future sh received a scholarship to go to college.  While she was in a class the teacher presented the class with an assignment to design something that will fill actual needs. She did her research at homeless shelters.  After many prototypes she created a coat that was a coat during the day but would open up and had a pocket at the bottom that you could slip your feet in and velcro shut like a sleeping bag.  This seemed like a solution until one day when a lady came out of the shelter (as she was there getting feedback on the coat) and came out yelling at the “We don’t need coats.  Coats are pointless.  We need jobs”.  she was right.  The coat was just a bandaid.  She began hiring only people from the homeless shelter and training them to be independent.  What an amazing idea.  She is empowering them to do anything they want.  Way to go Veronika.  You are our hero.  Thanks to Patricia M for suggesting this story.

Community Surrounds Boy with Love

TISSUE ALERT!!  Thanks to Patricia M for sharing this story with us.  This story will break your heart but it also brings joy that a community will come together to bring joy to a little boy.  Little Ethan Van Leuven is suffering from acute lymphoblastic leukemia.  Ethan is 4 and has been fighting this awful disease for most of his short life.  Recently the family was told that there is no hope for treatment for Ethan.  Now, to bring joy to their little boy, the family with the help of the community of West Jordan, Utah are bringing the holidays to Ethan this week one at a time.  Yesterday was Halloween for Ethan in West Jordan.  The costumes came out and candy was everywhere.  What an adorable little superman he was.  Holidays continue this week with Ethan’s birthday celebration on Thursday (about a month early) and Friday will be a big Christmas eve celebration by the community and Saturday the family will celebrate Ethan’s favorite holidsay Christmas.  Even the local radio station will play Christmas music for Ethan.  What a wonderful way to help this little boy have some joy during this difficult time.  Thank you to the community of West Jordan for all you are doing to make this dream come true.  But most of all Ethan, you are our hero today.  We hope you enjoy your holidays this week as much as everyone will in bringing them to you.  Happy Halloween, Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas to you Ethan from ALittleGoodNews.com.

Helping Homeless through Music

What can we do to help the homeless?  Sometimes it seems this is too big for me to help.  What can just a few people do?  Well, here is a video that shows what a small group of people in New York City did to help one homeless man.  They asked the same thing.  What could I do?  Then they got together and decided that that there was something that they could do.  They went out and found a guy that had a sign and needed some help.  They sat down and just started singing.  What a perfect song too.  I love the reaction of the homeless man.  He was a part of a group for a while (which I think brought him much joy).  He also was so touched to see what happened when they started to sing.  People walking by were willing to help when the music started.  Thanks to this group who call themselves the Model Pranksters.  They helped show the people of New York and everyone watching this video that you can help.

Police Handle Serious Situations Differently

I seem to be finding a lot of “Good Cop” police stories recently.  I don’t think you can ever have too many.  Here is one from earlier this year.  I think this is a different kind of police story.  This one seems to be written by an ice cream company.  I still think it makes for a good story.  I am not sure how I would feel if I got pulled over for this but it was fun to watch it happen to someone else.  The moral of the story is to enjoy life and don’t always take things so seriously.  I think these police officers enjoyed being able to be the “good cops” this time.  Have fun with this story and be sure to share it with others.

Have you seen a great story that you would like us to share?  Send it to me via our facebook page or by emailing me at alittlegoodnews@gmail.com.  We would love to hear from you about other good news stories.  We can never get too many good news stories.  Thanks in advance for sharing with us so we can share with others.

Helping others in Detroit

Continuing our theme this week of Random Acts of kindness we found a video from Detroit.  Two Detroit police officers, Amy Szarafinski and Luis Caban, go above and beyond the call of duty.  These two officers can be found helping people all over Detroit.  The story begins with an older lady who had been robbed. She was so frightened by the act that she was having trouble sleeping.  The officers came by and helped her board up her window that had broken during the robbery.  Another time they had to stop a lady for bulb that was out in her tail light.  She was so upset and said she just didn’t have enough money to buy even a bulb.  Officer Amy offered to take her to the store and Officer Luis said he would replace the bulb for her.  This and many other kindness they do every day.  These are types of officers we don’t hear about.  All we hear in the news is about the ones that do bad things.  Not often enough do we hear about the ones that do good deeds for the people they serve.  Officer Amy and Officer Luis you are our heroes today!!  Great job.
