Random Act of Kindness at Chick-fil-A

Today’s story is one we hear about more often these days.  Thanks to Patricia M for sending us this story.  We can never hear about it often enough.  This random act of kindness happened in Texas.  One Monday a man named John decided to go through the drive through at Chick-fil-A.  He paid for his meal with ten one hundred dollar bills.  His random act of kindness paid for the meals for 88 other people besides his own.  You never know how something as small as paying for a meal will effect another.  The people working there that day tell of many stories they heard from the people who were the recipients of this kindness.  One lady had had such a bad day that broke into tears when hearing that John had paid for her meal.  The people working that day were also touched by this kindness.  One gentleman reminds us all that we just need to take the time to treat people better.  Have you ever received a random act of kindness like this one?  Have you ever done one of these for others? Why not today?   Why not you?

Construction workers come in all sizes

Renzo Lombardi is a little boy who has had a hard life.  In his short 3 years Renzo, suffers from a kidney cancer known as Wilms’ tumor.  He had that tumor removed but it did require chemo treatments.  Being a normal little boy he loves trucks.  He also loves construction work.  He requested his wish from the Make-A-Wish foundation to work on a construction site.  The city of San Francisco granted his wish by having him become the foreman on a site in downtown San Francisco.  ”Renzo has loved construction trucks since he was an infant, and will be able to see all of these incredible machines up close, riding in the cab, using the controls—this wish is the one thing his parents say helped him keep his mind off of treatment ” said Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area Executive Director, Patricia Wilson in a press release. What an adorable little boy.  How wonderful is it that San Francisco does have the heart to provide these experiences for sick children who have been through so much.  This is an experience little Renzo will never forget.  I believe all of the people at that construction site will not forget this experience soon either.  They all seemed to enjoy the time he spent on the site.  Thanks to Patricia M for sharing this story with us.

NFL Team Does the Right Thing

Are you ready for some football?  It is that time again when we all huddle around the TV to watch our favorite teams play football.  I can’t say that my team is the Cincinatti Bengals but I have a new found respect for that team.  This week it was announced that they needed to trim their roster so they cut defensive tackle Devon Still.  Shortly Still received word that they were reinstating him to the practice squad with pay and insurance.  This comes as great news to him as his 4 year old daughter Leah was diagnosed in June with pediatric cancer. Understandably since then he has not been able to devote 100% to the game. “They could have washed their hands with me and said they didn’t care about what I was going through off the field,” Still said.  ”It’s like a blessing in disguise for me”.  He will be able to travel less and spend more time with Leah during her treatments. Way to go Bengals!!  This is the way all companies should treat their employees.  Caring for them like family instead of employees.  Classy move!!

Happy Labor Day!!

Labor Day is here.  That means a few different things.  Labor Day is a day off (for most of us).  It tells us that summer is coming to an end.  But what exactly is this holiday for?  The defintion of Labor Day is:

La·bor Day

a public holiday or day of festivities held in honor of working people, in the US and Canada on the first Monday in September, in many other countries on May 1.

I tried to find a video that would be about people who are hard working but instead I found this one.  It is from a speaker named John VonAchen.  He is a motivational speaker.  I thought that rather than showing you some people who were hard working, I would offer you on this Labor Day some motivation to be even more successful yourself.  Take a moment to watch this video and think about your life.  What can you change in your life to succeed? Your future is in your hands.  You can achieve what ever you put your mind to.  There is more out there for you.  Never Give UP!!  And take this day to honor all you have done in your life.  Tomorrow is another day and you can make it what ever you want it to be.

Building Homes for the Brave

This is a story about a group from Habitat for Humanity.  This is a group of folks that builds or rebuilds homes for those that cannot afford a home on their own.  The ownesr of these home are required to assist with the building and will pay back a 0% interest loan.  The building is done mostly by volunteers.  It is a very rewarding program to be involved with.  What makes this story different is this group in San Diego is building their first ever “Building for the Brave” .  This project will create homes that will be for disabled veterans.  San Diego is a military town so they want to take care of our military. What a wonderful program this is for the needy but especially for our veterans who gave up everything to serve our country.    The homes are also being  furnished with state of the art furnishing adapted for the special needs of the veterans. It is really nice to see how much this means to the resident that will take ownership once the project is complete.

Needy woman gets a surprise at her door

It was a rainy day in Monroe Connecticut back in April.  When Penny Pompa woke up on April 30th this year she was shocked to find the Publisher’s Clearing House prize patrol at her door.  This is one of those things that everyone wishes would happen but only happens to a few.  This time the woman that won really needed this surprise.  As Penny tells the people who delivered her big check she had spent the morning praying for help.  It appears that Penny had been diagnosed with Lyme disease and with mounting medical bills and other bills she was just about to lose her home.  What perfect timing for her to receive this gift to help her out of this financial mess.  She could only say “This is amazing”.  We are so happy for her that she could win this prize at this time when she needed it so much.  Congratulations Penny.

Crafting their way through cancer treatments

A Kansas City family has created a crafting  kit that helps young cancer patients fill time during treatments.  Becky Long was diagnosed 4 years ago with cancer and today she is cancer free.  During her treatments she found that it was helpful to have things to take her mind off her treatments.  She is working with her family to create activity baskets for kids with cancer.  Craft-a-Grams are given to kids to give them something to do to make the time go by faster.  The family gives away 400 kits a year.  It is their way of thanking all the people who helped them in their time of need.  The family shared what they were doing with Family Fun Magazine and won a $5000 grand prize.  They will use this money to fund more kits for Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.  What a great way to help others.  Challenge yourself to think of ways to help others.  It can be something as simple as a smile as you pass by an elderly person on the street to something as involved as this project.  Every little bit helps.

Culver’s Owner Takes Care of his Employees

Here is a story of a business who really cares.  The Culver’s Restaurant in Plattville, WI was struck down by fire on Nov. 16, 2013.  At that time the employees thought that they had just lost their jobs.  Bruce Kroll, the owner of this Culvers for over 19 years knows how important all his employees are to the company.  When the restaurant burns down he decided to continue to pay his employees while they rebuild.  He agreed to pay his employees for six months.  He only asked one thing while he did this.  That was for the employees to donate their time to the community while the place was being rebuilt. His insurance paid the employee payroll for 60 days. Kroll paid the remaining four months of paychecks, almost $144,000 out of his own pocket. Some employees even held a fundraiser for the local fire department raising $2000 and gave 100% to the fire department.  Bruce cares for his employees.  After the 6 months to the day they reopened and were all back together again to serve the community.  They did have another scare. Only 24 hours later a tornado came only 20 yards from the restaurant.  They had to close again for 24 hours to clean up but am back open again and hopefully this time for good.  We salute you Bruce for being the type of boss that everyone needs.

Amazing Commercial You Have To See

Today’s video is actually a commercial.  It is a commercial for a bank.  You won’t believe what this bank does for it’s customers.  Here is what they did.  The bank is TD Canada.  They selected a few of their good customers and found out some personal things about them.  Then when the customer came into the bank the ATM machine talked to the customer to say “Thank You” for being a customer of this bank.  Then (depending on the information they found out about the needs of the customer) they provided them with a gift of some sort the was personal to each of their customers.  What an amazing thing for a company to do for their customers.  How thoughtful just to say Thank You to their customers but then to provide them with the gifts (some of great value and some were just thoughtful).  I loved this commercial.  What if more businesses thanks their patrons.  We all need a few more thank yous in our lives.  Remember to show those around you a thank you when someone helps you,  opens a door for you or even let’s you go ahead in line.  A thank you can be verbal or even just a smile.  Enjoy this commercial and share it with your friend.  AND…THANK YOU for spending a little of your day with us hearing A Little Good News.  Thank You Wesley P for sharing this great story.

Lowe’s Employees Come to the Aid of a Vet

Michael Sulsona is a disabled Vietnam Vet who lost both legs during the war.  Recently Michael was in Lowe’s getting some fencing for his yard when his wheel chair broke.  He had been trying to get a replacement chair from the VA but they would just send a repairman.  Those repairs would not last long.  This day he was lucky to be in Lowe’s where the employees immediately (even though it was close to closing time) jumped into action and began replacing all the nuts and bolts on his chair.  They told him that they wanted to make his chair like new again.  Michael thanked them but they told him that it was their honor to help him.  What a great group of men who saw an opportunity to help out one of our veterans and was willing to do what ever it took to make this chair like new again.  Michael was very grateful.

Thanks to Lowe’s for hiring such upstanding employees.  Now with all the publicity this story has created the VA has now sent Michael a new wheelchair.  Thanks to Mark B. and Patricia M for sending us this story.  Keep watching for these great stories.
