One Man Helping Others — Video Will Touch You

Wow!  I really loved today’s ALGN video post about helping others (even though it is in another language).  It is a Thai television commercial, but, you don’t even know anything about the company or what they are promoting.  Instead, it is an incredible message about helping others, even when there is nothing in it for you. The commercial follows a young man in his daily life, as he goes out of his way to help so many strangers, helping out by giving of his money, his food, his strength, his time, etc.  In each case, you could see that there was no benefit to this man for helping.  You can even see the reactions of others who saw what he had done. They were shaking their heads in disbelief (and maybe even disappointment) as they saw him help others, who, I guess, in their opinion, did not deserve help.  The video goes on to show how others benefited from the help that he had given.  But, it then shows what he “got out of it.”  It points out that he got happy emotions out of it.  That is the help that he was given.  Doing these things made his life fuller and richer.  He was becoming a better and happier person by helping others.  What a GREAT message.  Watch it and see if you don’t agree.  I’m betting that many of you are going to want to share this great message with others.

Have a GREAT day…by making it a great day for someone else!!!

Pharrell Williams Surprises a Big Fan

I am a big fan of the Pharrell Willams’ song, “Happy”.  I’m sure that most of you know it.  If you don’t know it, you should go find it and listen to it.  It is a GREAT song with a super beat and and even better message.  If I had a “theme” song, this song may just be it.  Well, since it is such a favorite song, I decided to find a way to do an ALGN post that somehow touched on the song or on Pharrell Williams.  Well, thanks to MasterCard, I came across a great little post that does both.  As part of MasterCard’s “Priceless Surprises” campaign, Pharrell was asked by MasterCard if he was willing to join them in surprising a very big “Pharrell Williams Fan”.  Her name is Queen.  Queen runs a daycare where she gets the kids to dance and sing, etc.  She is a huge Pharrell fan and LOVES his songs…especially the song “Happy”.  Well, she is performing that song with her kids when Pharrell walks into her classroom.  She is excited and almost in tears to see him.  It is neat to see Pharrell interact with her and with her little kids.  You can see how down to earth he is.  And then, Pharrell even pays tribute to Queen.  It is a neat little segment and I hope it makes you just like Pharrell’s song…..HAPPY!!!

Sharks Make Dream Come True

How often do sharks make someone’s dream come true?  Well, when the sharks we are talking about are the San Jose Sharks of the NHL, it can happen.  And, recently, that is exactly what happened for an 18 year old lifelong Shark fan by the name of Sam Tageson.  (And, NO…this is not an April Fool’s Day prank article — we don’t do those types of things here at ALGN.  We just have nothing but GOOD NEWS…ALL THE TIME).  Thank you to Dan C. and Aubrey D. for sending me this great clip about a bunch of Sharks who made Sam’s day.  Sam has been suffering from a rare heart condition that he has had since birth.  The San Jose Sharks teamed up with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and gave Sam a night that he would never forget.  They signed him to a one day contract and let him practice with the team, meet the General Manager and then, he even got to suit up and skate out of the Shark’s mouth with the team.  There isn’t much to say and the video is very short, but it is well worth watching.  And, I wish more companies would join in and do things like this for people (especially for those who have had very challenging lives).  What a WONDERFUL night for Sam — to be a member of the Sharks team that he has cheered for his whole life.  WOW!!  Way to go, San Jose Sharks!!  I hope you have a WONDERFUL Tuesday!!

Have a GREAT day…by making it a great day for someone else!!!

Superhero Hearing Aid Saves the Day

You’re going to love this SUPERHERO story.  It is about a year and a half old, but I had never heard of it until an old friend, Bob F., sent it to me yesterday.  And, I LOVED the story.  I know that companies oftentimes will do things in order to try to seem like they care, when they are really only in it for the publicity.  However, every now and then, you hear about a company doing something just because it is the right thing to do.  Today’s ALGN post is one of those times.  In an ironic twist, Marvel Comics (the company) became a superhero of their own in my eyes.  Even though they ended up getting some publicity because of this, I would be hardpressed to believe that they did it FOR the publicity.  I think that the right people were touched and they just wanted to help.  Here is the quick story:  Little Anthony Smith has no hearing on his right side and VERY limited hearing on his left side.  He had been fitted with a special hearing aid that helped him to hear.  His mom and him called it “blue ear”.  But, Anthony is a HUGE fan of Marvel’s superhero comic books and he decided one day that he would no longer wear “blue ear” because superheroes don’t wear them.  No matter what his mother said, he wouldn’t budge.  She was devastated. The device is what finally got him talking and doing much more.  So, in desperation, she wrote to the people at Marvel Comics.  They responded immediately with a cover of Hawkeye (a superhero who lost his hearing).  Then they decided to go even further. They created a NEW superhero called, “Blue Ear” – just for Anthony.  How cool. When they sent that great cover over, he was HOOKED and IMMEDIATELY started wearing his “Blue Ear” again…because he WAS the superhero, “Blue Ear”.  I have heard that, since then, they even have had him come to their corporate offices, where he met some real life heroes (like “Iron Man”).  But, to me, there are a FEW different “superheroes” in this story:  A wonderful mom, who did not give up, but got creative and wrote to Marvel Comics for help, the GREAT people at Marvel….and, of course, Anthony Smith….”Blue Ear”, himself!!  What a great story!!!  Enjoy the video and have a great weekend!!
