Dreams Come True

Girls get food instead of presents

Gabbie and Alice are good friends.  They love to help others.  They had a birthday coming and decided to have a joint birthday party.  They decided to help out the food pantry at school.  So instead of asking for presents they asked people to bring food for their school food pantry.  In the past they have helped out at homeless shelter and at the animal shelter.  They are really amazing kids.  They raised $20,000 in donations not counting the food  they have raised.  By being on Ellen the Shutterfly company added another $20,000 to the fund. How wonderful these two little girls are to care about others.  It is so awesome to watch how much these little girls care about others.  What could we do to be like these little girls to help others.  To their parents, you have done a great job with these little girls.  They are amazing.

Iron Man shares a bionic arm

What a wonderful thing actor Robert Downey Jr. did for this little boy.  Alex a seven year old loves superheroes and riding his bike. He was born with a partially developed right arm.  Albert Manero is a college student who builds and donates low-cost, 3D printed bionic limbs to kids around the world.  Albert has a project he is working on called the Collective Project with Limbitless Solutions where he supplies these limb to needy kids.  Robert Downey Jr agreed to help with this project.  Robert tried to stay in character but as you watch you can see he did enjoy spending time with Alex and Albert.  What a wonderful gift he gave to this little boy to have one of his heroes come to help him with his arm.  Thank you so much to Albert Manero for creating these Prosthetic Arms and helping those little ones to feel better than normal.   How amazing what these college students can do to help these kids born without limbs.  How amazing is it that with support of volunteers and celebrities they can create these amazing prosthetics and help these children.

Hearing Hands

Here is a wonderful video which even though it is a commercial for Samsung it tells a great story.  It shows an entire neighborhood who learns sign language to give one hearing impared man a day where he feels included.  Muharrem is deaf.  They also posted lots of cameras around town to show his reaction to this day. After a month of preparation they were ready for the big day. Many people who would  be interacting with him learned sign language.  From a simple passerby on the street to the cab driver.  They all took their time to learn.  This all happened in Instanbul, Turkey.  Muharren and his sister started off on a “normal day” out. First stop was the bagel store where they were greated with sign language from the clerk. Next at the fruit market a man drops some fruit and when they help him he offers them a reward (all in sign language). Muharren is starting to wonder what is going on. As they arrive in the square A sign calls out to him and tells him that they want to create a video calling center to stop barrriers for the deaf.  He is so touched and thanks all who helped.  Why can’t we do more to be able to communicate with the deaf?  What can we do to help?

Hockey Star makes 5 year old dream come true

Five year old Cammy suffers from Rhett’s syndrome which prevents her from being able to walk or speak. She can only communicate through her computer and is wheel chair bound.  But that won’t stop her. This little one is a huge hockey fan  espeically the Chicago Blackhawks and her favorite player Duncan Keith.  Duncan with the help of the Blackhawks helped her with her dream.  Duncan spent time visiting with her before taking her on the ice to achieve her goal. Cammy entered the “What’s your Goal” social media campaign and was selected.  Her goal was to go on the ice and score a goal.  He made her dream come true.  Putting on her jersey he straps her to him  and helps her skate across the ice and make a goal. Thank you so much to the Blackhawks organization and to Duncan Keith for giving back to the community by sponsoring this campaign and taking your personal time to make dreams come true. This is one thing that this little girl will never forget.

Couple finds old love letters

Lloyd Michael and Marian Michael had saved their love letters for over 40 years.  They were stolen when their storage unit was broken into.  They thought that they would never see these again.  They were in an old steamer trunk.  They thought that they would never see them again.  One day a stamp collector who had recevied the box decided to search for the couple whose names were on the letters.  He found them and was able to return the letters to Lloyd and Marian.  How pleased they were to get their letters back.  What a wonderful thing for the this man who came about these letters honestly diid to make these two wonderful people happy.  You never know how your acts can affect another.  The thief thought he was getting something of value but the value was on in the hands of the two owners.  This was a value that could never be replaced.

Homeless man gets reward

This story is from some time ago but it is worth revisiting.  This is a story of  Glen James, a homeless manwho lives in Boston.  Glen finds a bag with $40,000 and a passport.  When he finds the money (even though he has none himself) he turns it in to the police.  The city of Boston was overwhelmed with his honesty.   They even honored him with a plaque.  Over 500 miles away in Midlowthian, Virginia Ethan Whittington sees this story.  He was taken with this story and thought that Glen deserved more than just a plaqye.  Ethan started a campaign and people donated over $160,000 (this amount is updated to what he has raised currently).  How wonderful the community is to recognize the honesty of this man.  How many of us would do what he did and turn in this money.  No one saw it  but him. No one knew he had it but he never thought of anything but to get this money back to the owner,  How amazing.  Here’s to Glen and all the people who thought to honor him by donating to his reward.

FREE Groceries

What a great way to treat people.  This is a great video put on by some company that helped this man and his kids to provide free groceries to a few deserving families. It is wonderful to watch the families once the find out that they are getting free groceries.  We don’t know their stories.  We don’t know why they need the free groceries.  We don’t need to know.  You just have to look at the joy on their faces to know that they appreciate the gift they receive.  Sometimes it is just about giving. Not giving because they deserve it or even need it.  Just giving to give.  It is a gift to you as much as the one you give to. Thanks to everyone who gives to others without expecting anything in return.  During this video you see the man who arranged the gift never speak up or even let anyone know that he is involved.  Giving without calling attention to him or his kids.  What a fun thing to do.  AND what a great lesson for his kids. Good job.

Son lives after Mom’s Prayer

I believe prayer works.  And after this story you will believe it too.  This is a story about an 8th grader named John Smith. It seems that John and two friends decided to try to walk on thin ice.  John fell through the ice and was there for over 15 minutes before being rescued by the local fire department.  The rescue team had just practiced ice rescue the week before.  Now here they were to pull John out.  They tried to revive him but nothing was working.  They tried CPR for 27 minutes with no results.  The doctor brought John’s mother into the room to tell her what was happening.  His mom immediately began praying for God to step in now and to save her son.  Almost immediately the doctor team began to get a pulse. Something that a few minutes ago was a tragedy now had hope.  The doctors were amazed but still unsure if  his mind would still be there.  Unbelievably he is not only surviving but he is thriving.  He is getting stronger everyday and if you ask anyone it is a miracle brought on by his mother’s prayer.  Do you believe in prayer?  This story will help you to see that prayer does work.

“Humans of New York” raise $1M for students

This was my first experience with “Humans of New York”.  In my research I found he has been doing this for some 4 years now.  Brandon Stanton came to New York and decided to start a blog and meet  10,000 people on the streets of New York.  He never imagined that it turn to this.  Currently he has 12 million people following him on Facebook. Today’s story is about a school in Brooklyn. Mont Hall Bridges Academy is the school where Mrs. Lopez is the principal.  The young man he met on the street told him when he asked  who do you admire, he said his principal. This principal has the goal to send her students to Harvard University.  They started a fund raising campaign to raise $100,000.  In just over 4 days they raised over $1M. The outpouring of love from not just New York but from the world to help these students is unbelieveable.  It just goes to show you that we together can make a difference.  This guy had a wonderful idea to share the thoughts and hearts of the people he met on the street.  Who will he meet next?  What will their story be?  How will their stories touch the world?  Stay tuned and way to go Brandon Stanton. Keep up the great work.

Boy Surprised with Vacuum

Dylan has had a facination with vacuums since he was two.  Dylan, who has autism, was never into “normal” toys, his mother Jodie told WTVR.  In an effort to help make her son’s birthday special, Dylan’s mother sent an email to the Kirby Company, the Cleveland-based makers of the Kirby vacuum.  The middle school student turned 14 over the weekend and celebrated his birthday with a party that included close friends, family and a vacuum salesman.  Dylan’s mom just wanted this birthday to be something special so she reached out to the Kirby company to send someone out to just do a demonstrations.  She even had a cake made for him with a vacuum on it.  But what she got was much more.

In addition to sending Dylan a soccer ball, a hat and a T-shirt with the Kirby logo, a Kirby salesman traveled from Fredericksburg to Chesterfield to perform a vacuum demonstration at the party. He knew more about the Kirby than I did,” an obviously impressed Al Archie said. “I have never experienced anything like that.” Archie, who has been selling vacuums for Kirby for 25 years, said he was moved by Dylan’s knowledge and was taken aback by photos of a much younger Dylan dressed up as a vacuum salesman.

At the end of the demonstration he gave Dylan a brand new Kirby vacuum.  There was not a dry eye in the house.Kirby vacuums are not a cheap, but Archie said he decided to get one for Dylan as a way to celebrate the child’s passion” said Dylan’s mom. A big thanks out to the Kirby company for making this special young man’s birthday so great.
