Dreams Come True

Construction workers come in all sizes

Renzo Lombardi is a little boy who has had a hard life.  In his short 3 years Renzo, suffers from a kidney cancer known as Wilms’ tumor.  He had that tumor removed but it did require chemo treatments.  Being a normal little boy he loves trucks.  He also loves construction work.  He requested his wish from the Make-A-Wish foundation to work on a construction site.  The city of San Francisco granted his wish by having him become the foreman on a site in downtown San Francisco.  ”Renzo has loved construction trucks since he was an infant, and will be able to see all of these incredible machines up close, riding in the cab, using the controls—this wish is the one thing his parents say helped him keep his mind off of treatment ” said Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area Executive Director, Patricia Wilson in a press release. What an adorable little boy.  How wonderful is it that San Francisco does have the heart to provide these experiences for sick children who have been through so much.  This is an experience little Renzo will never forget.  I believe all of the people at that construction site will not forget this experience soon either.  They all seemed to enjoy the time he spent on the site.  Thanks to Patricia M for sharing this story with us.

The Healing Touch of a Pet

When little Caleb was injured in a head on collision there didn’t seem to be much hope for recovery.  He suffered a tramatic brain injury.  The tissues in the brain slammed forward killing many cells in his brain.  He also had a broken leg and arm.  His recovery was going to take a very long time.  Watching this video you see his progress and his improvement.  This improvement was helped along by the help of a therepy animal. Colonel was the name of the dog that they use at his hospital.  The healing touch of this dog made all the difference. Once the dog was added to his therepy you could see how much he wanted to play with the dog.  He was doing things to play with the dog that allowed him to use his body to improve just by “playing” with the dog.  What an amazing improvement he made by playing with this dog.  As you continue to watch his improvement is amazing.  Playing with the dog makes Caleb forget that he is really in therapy.  The love his has for the dog is a key to his development and recovery.  Thanks to the volunteers and the animal program that this hospital provided helped save this little boy.  What an inspiring story.

What this husband does for his wife

Here is a story of true love and devotion.  Larry Swilling is a loving husband to his wife Jimmie Sue.  They have been married for 57 years. Jimmie Sue has failing kidneys.  So Larry did what ever he could for over a year to find her a kidney.  Larry, age 77, starting walking all over his community in South Carolina to find her a kidney.  He stopped everyone is path crossed and asked for a kidney.    Most people would not even consider this for a family member not to mention a stranger. After the first airing of this story on CBS thousands of people called to offer their kidneys.  More than 100 went through the testing and one was  a match.  Kelly Weaverling, a retired Navy lt. Commander was the match.  She said she knew she could do something to give this family hope.  Larry really wants to thank her but she says he only needs to take care of his wife.  What a beautiful and loving gift this stranger did for these people.  How brave it is to reach down inside and give something so precious, the gift of life.  Larry said he will now look for more donors for other people.

Happy Labor Day!!

Labor Day is here.  That means a few different things.  Labor Day is a day off (for most of us).  It tells us that summer is coming to an end.  But what exactly is this holiday for?  The defintion of Labor Day is:

La·bor Day

a public holiday or day of festivities held in honor of working people, in the US and Canada on the first Monday in September, in many other countries on May 1.

I tried to find a video that would be about people who are hard working but instead I found this one.  It is from a speaker named John VonAchen.  He is a motivational speaker.  I thought that rather than showing you some people who were hard working, I would offer you on this Labor Day some motivation to be even more successful yourself.  Take a moment to watch this video and think about your life.  What can you change in your life to succeed? Your future is in your hands.  You can achieve what ever you put your mind to.  There is more out there for you.  Never Give UP!!  And take this day to honor all you have done in your life.  Tomorrow is another day and you can make it what ever you want it to be.

Have a GREAT day…by making it a great day for someone else!!!

Noah is college bound

As everyone is going back to school I thought I would show this short video.  This video is about a young man who gets accepted to college.  This young man is not like the average student heading off to college.  Here is a little back story about Noah.  Noah Van Vooren has Downs Syndrome.  He attended a high school in Little Chute, Wisconsin.  He was the waterboy on the football team.  They even let him carry the football on the last game of the year for a touchdown.  He has always just wanted to be one of the team.  His parents said (in a different video about his life) that the doctors said he may never walk or talk or read.  Now as he gets a letter from the college he applied to and you can be there to see the pure joy he has for being accepted.  Accepted for being who he is and what he can bring to the college.  Congrats to you Noah.  We at ALittleGoodNews.com wish you the best as you begin this new chapter in your life.   Thanks to Dan C. and  Sean R for bringing us this video.

Building Homes for the Brave

This is a story about a group from Habitat for Humanity.  This is a group of folks that builds or rebuilds homes for those that cannot afford a home on their own.  The ownesr of these home are required to assist with the building and will pay back a 0% interest loan.  The building is done mostly by volunteers.  It is a very rewarding program to be involved with.  What makes this story different is this group in San Diego is building their first ever “Building for the Brave” .  This project will create homes that will be for disabled veterans.  San Diego is a military town so they want to take care of our military. What a wonderful program this is for the needy but especially for our veterans who gave up everything to serve our country.    The homes are also being  furnished with state of the art furnishing adapted for the special needs of the veterans. It is really nice to see how much this means to the resident that will take ownership once the project is complete.

Needy woman gets a surprise at her door

It was a rainy day in Monroe Connecticut back in April.  When Penny Pompa woke up on April 30th this year she was shocked to find the Publisher’s Clearing House prize patrol at her door.  This is one of those things that everyone wishes would happen but only happens to a few.  This time the woman that won really needed this surprise.  As Penny tells the people who delivered her big check she had spent the morning praying for help.  It appears that Penny had been diagnosed with Lyme disease and with mounting medical bills and other bills she was just about to lose her home.  What perfect timing for her to receive this gift to help her out of this financial mess.  She could only say “This is amazing”.  We are so happy for her that she could win this prize at this time when she needed it so much.  Congratulations Penny.

Amazing runner with MS

Kayla Montgomery is an amazing athlete in itself.  But when you hear what she overcoming you will be shocked.  Kayla is a runner for her high school track team.  Running track is something Kayla has been doing for sometime.  That was until she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).   She has gone form being one of the slower runners on her high school team to one of the fastest distance runners in the nation.  Three years ago when Kayla was diagnosed she said, “Instead of letting it stop me from running, I’ve used it to motivate me to break records”.  And break records she does.  She is doing so good that she trains with the boys team and receives no special treatment.  That is except when the  race is over.  You see, MS keeps her from feeling the pain in her legs.  When she stops running her legs gives out and she collapes.  As she crosses the finish line, her coach catches her to keep her from falling.  ”It kind of feels like I’m just kind of floating”, she says.  ”There’s nothing underneath me”.  Kayla’s coach, Patrick Cromwell is amazed at her progress.  ”I don’t know.  I would have never thought she would improve 8 minutes in four years either”.  No one knows what will happen as the disease progresses.  We only know that Kayla is amazing and we wish her the best.   Thanks to Shawn H for bringing us this story to share.

Homeless Students Gives Valedictorian Speech

What an accomplishment!!  This is a story about Rashema Melson from Washington DC.  Rashema was selected by her school to be the valedictorian of her high school graduating class.  She is alot like most students in her class.  What makes her different is that Rashema is homeless and for the last 3 years lives in a homeless shelter with her family.  Not only was she selected as valedictorian but she also received a full ride scholarship to Georgetown University.  We all wish the best for her and hope that she graduates from Georgetown with a medical degree and fulfills her dream of becoming a forensic pathologist.  What an accomplishment she has made already and with the attitude and support she has received we are certain that she will accomplish these goals.  What an amazing young lady.  How did she do it?  With determination and support of her family and her school.  I am sure there were a lot of teachers that without their support she might have faultered.  Thank you to the teachers and her supporters.

The Story of Sam’s Miracle

This is an amazing story.  This is the story of Sam Schmid.  Back in 2011 Sam was in a horific car crash.  People said he would never survive.  Sam says it was a miracle that he survived but he fought hard to survive.  He was in a coma for a long time after the surgery which saved his life.  It came to a time where the family was considering taking him off life support.  They decided to wait a week longer and the miracle happened. Sam woke up. He worked so hard to progress from even swallowing to walking to playing basketball and returning to work. He has spent 2 1/2 years recovering.  He knows that the pain is worth the effort to get better.   He speaks of the hard work, dedication and perserverence.  He says, “Never give up.  Find the miracle within you”.  What a wonderful outlook he has on life.  Just image you having that philosophy without the trials that Sam had to endure.  You could do anything.

Thanks to Tim M for bringing us this story.
