Music Touches the Lives of Seniors

A.G.  Rhodes Health and Rehab Wesley Woods in Atlanta Georgia they use the power of music to offer therapy for seniors. While they listen to music they are transported back to other times.  Some to childhood memories others to memories of loved ones and other times. Music therapist John Able uses the Music to Memories program with many Rhodes residents. For some it brings them back from a place where they are trapped to rejoin their families even for just a fleeting moment.  They come together daily and at that time the music seems to transform them.  It helps them to forget about their current situations, like health and lack of mobility and takes them back to a time when they could get up and dance and feel the music.  As you watch you see how the music touches the seniors.  It not only touched those in the center but also the reporter covering the story.

“When most of our experiences are behind us, it is the gift of looking back, remembering how life was, connecting us to how life can still feel, as long as we have the music.”  Never take the music out of your heart.

A Tiny House is Just What She Needed

This is a story about a man who saw a need and met it.  It seems he had the resources and the desire to help a woman in his neighborhood who was living on the street.  She had nothing and no where to live.  So he created one.  It may not be the best place but it was better than what she had.  He did what he could with what he had.  He made a difference in her life.  And … he expected nothing in return.  What can we do to help others?  Is there something that you can do?  We may not all have the resources or the talent to build little houses.  We can do things like work at the food pantry.  Donate extra items to a shelter. Or just give something even more personal… like your smile as you pass a stranger on the street.  It doesn’t take much.  Every little bit helps.  Take the time to give to others.  You will receive much more joy in return.

Stranger Amazing Gesture for Fallen Officer’s Son

Sam Brownlee was a Colorado Sheriff’s Deputy.  He was shot and killed when trying to capture a subject after a high speed chase while on duty.  They are auctioning off his patrol car to raise money for an organization that helps the families of fallen officers. There is one bidder for this car that is kind of special.  The Sheriff’s son, Tanner Brownlee would like to win the auction so he could have his Dad’s patrol car. Tanner was only 15 when his father died. He doesn’t have much to remember his dad.  Tanner didn’t have much money to bid on the car.  He just hoped that who ever got the car would take care of it.  The bidding started and Tanner was right in the bidding.  Soon the price went way more than Tanner had available.  He watched as the price of the $12,500 car grew to $60,000.   A man who bought the former service car of a fallen Weld County, Colorado Sheriff’s deputy turned this purchase into an amazing act of kindness. After he won the car he walked over and presented the keys to Tanner.  He couldn’t believe what this many had done.  What a wonderful gesture.  It is amazing when people do amazing things for special people.

Couple Celebrates 70th Anniversary with Amazing Gifts

A Bakersfield couple just celebrated a huge milestone.  Richard and Mary Arambula celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.  Their family decided that for this special occasion they needed some greetings from some special people.  It all started with their granddaughter that was living in Germany at the time. She sent a letter to the Vatican and to the President of the United States.  When she got a response from both of them she thought maybe more celebrities would send a note.  She was so surprised to see that she received over 150 notes including one from each of the living presidents.  She had sent a request to Joan Rivers and unfortunately she died before she could send something so her publisist sent a broach and a shawl.  One of their favorites was a note from Tommy Lasorda and Steve Garvey as she is a huge Dodger fan.  They also received many local celebrities as well.  They never thougtht they would receive just a wonderful response.  It truly made this anniversary even more special.  Their marriage was so successsful as they said it was because “you need to learn to be tolerant of one another.” Congratulations Richard and Mary…, many more to come.

A Special Prom Invite

Corning High School student Cope Robinson asked Autumn Pollard to prom this year in front of the entire student body during a pep rally. Pollard is a junior at Corning High School and has Noonan syndrome. Her parents said it affects growth, the heart and several other aspects. Autumn said she usually joins the mascot on the basketball court to do a dance during the pep rally but she wasn’t expecting what happened next. “They turned me towards the words and here’s Cope walking to me with purple flowers, my favorite color,” Pollard said.

Robinson, a sophomore football player, said he and Autumn go to the same church and thanks to the help of his older sister and a few others, they were able to pull off the big surprise. He also said he hopes people see the video and feel inspired to be kind to others.“More people see that and be like that, instead of no, I’m not going to go with this kid, I’m not going to go with that kid,” said Robinson. It is wonderful to see how Cope respected Autumn and wanted to share this occasion with her.  They are wonderful examples to us all.

Freedom for Anthony

Anthony Ray Hinton lived on death row for nearly 30 years.  He was innocent but no one believed him.  He had a team of attorneys (The Equal Justice Initiative) that worked every day to help him gain his freedom.  He waited believing that someone would figure it out that it was not him.  He kept his faith.  In this video we watch as he experiences new and old things like feeling the rain on his face for the first time in 30 years.  He learned how to use the ATM, learn about Instagram and Facebook.  He doesn’t blame people. He has a strong faith and is now ready to learn to live again.  He will now work on fixing up his home that he shared with his mother when he was arrested.  They had information that they bullets used in the crime did not match the gun that was owned by his mother.  Things like this happen but the story here is that this man has a wonderful soul and joy.  He will make a new life now out and free.  It is amazing how things like this happen but the good news is that he is free and determined to make himself a good life.  What a strong spirit this man has.  ”Bitterness kills the soul” he says.  May he have a good life and reconnect with his family.

How Important You Are- A Mom’s Story

Moms are very busy.  Sometimes they forget just how much they do for everyone. This mom is a businesswoman and a full time mom. In this video she learns just what she means to the family.  This was a commercial but yet a great story that every mom could put herself in.  Kraft Peanut Butter approached this family to use as an example for almost every family.  The kids made drawings and an author helped them write a book.  Kraft asked Deborah to be there for a book reading.  She was reading the book to an audience.  All of a sudden she turns a page and sees that the story is about her.  I dare you not to find yourself this in this story in one way or another.  Thank you Kraft for reminding us that we all have a place in the story and what we do in life tells the story we want to tell.  Be present in your story no matter how hard or how wonderful.  A new chapter is ready to be written and what you do today will form that chapter.  Take the time to enjoy the story and share that story with everyone.

He Helps the Homeless in an Amazing Way

This is an amazing story about a retired Minnesota teacher known as the ‘Sandwich Man’ who is dedicating every day of his life the helps the homeless.  Allen Law has dedicated his life to helping the homeless in Minneapolis.  He retired from work as a teacher to start his new career providing for people who need help.  He goes out each night driving a van taking what is needed to the people who need it the most.  Does he do it alone?  No but without his help it wouldn’t get done. 363 is the number on the side of his van.  ”That number represents the days that most people don’t think of the poor”says Allen.  ”I will be out there every night”.  There  is no stopping him.  He hands out sandwiches, bus tokens, socks and other necessities.  He uses what he has and what others share with him to make this happen. Like his brother who offered for him to use his apartment while he was away and Allen filled it with socks, blankets and storage of other donations. That is not to mention his own house and the 17 freezers that hold the sandwiches that the churches and civic organizations make for him. Over 700,00 sandwiches which he drops off at homeless shelters.  He is a special kind of man.  Thank you Allen for your dedication.  You are amazing.

What a Father Will Do For His Daughter

Here is a fun video today for those fathers who will do anything for their little girls.  This Dad was asked by his daughter to do a dance routine for her Bat Mitzvah. This happened a few years ago. This Dad had been known to do things like this for his little girl.  If you check out his You Tube channel you will find several videos like this.  This is what we need more of.  A Dad who is not afraid to look foolish for his little girl.  You can just imagine how much time he had to spend with this little girl practicing for this event.  That is the important part.  Spending time with your kids while they are young.  Jessica will never forget the time she and her Dad spent together planning and working for these events.  Time spent with his little girl is invaluable.  What a great dad.  The kids grow up too quickly.  Take the time to enjoy their childhood. You will never regret this time in their lives.

How a Blind Mom Sees Her Unborn Baby

Here is another story that is not exactly news but it is a great story.  It is  the story of Tatiana who is a mother that is waiting on the birth of her child.  Huggies diapers created this commercial to tell her story.  Tatiana is a mother like many soon to be moms.  She is looking forward to the birth of her chilld.  She has everything ready and is just waiting for Murilo to come into the world.  The big difference here is that Tatiana is BLIND.  She will never see her baby so her doctor did her sonogram and then uses a 3D printer to create an image that she can touch to “SEE” her baby.  He first describes the baby to her.  We wonder why he is he is describing the baby and why the mother is not looking at the monitor.  Then we figure it out.  What a wonderful gift for this woman to expereience to be able to see her baby before it is born. What a great idea.  Thank you to Huggies for sharing this touching video.
