Honesty

Teen finds wallet and returns it.

Here is a short video with a great story.  A young man found a wallet that contained $2300.  His family was struggling with expenses but he never considered keeping the money. He turned it in right away to his school officials.  The wallet was claimed by a veteran who had lost his wallet.  The boys family was so proud of him for being doing the right thing.  When his mother sent him a text telling her how proud she was of him his reply was “You should be thanking yourself, you raised me”.  See when (as a parent) you are never really sure if they hear you and understand your lessons then you see something like this and realize, they are getting it.  Great job Mom and Dad for teaching this young man right from wrong and how to do the right thing.  AND thank you Tommy for thinking of others and doing the right thing.  Also, thanks to the vet who did reward Tommy.  BTW – I am sorry, but this video does not stop at the end of this story but continues on with a weather report from a local station. We could not edit this so just accept my apologies for this at the end of this great story.

Found Money Returned to Homeless Man

A police officer was patroling in Lauderdale by the Sea and discovered a couple plastic bags left under a park bench.  He took the bags to the station and turned them over to Police Detective Danny Mursell. There was over $5,000 dollars in cash in the bag with no identifying notes inside.  Soon another similar bag was turned over with another $4,000 inside. They found a clue.  A receipt was in side for a clothing store in the Coral Ridge Mall.  They were able to obtain video footage of the man who bought the clothes.  They distributed the picture to all the police in the area and shortly were able to locate the man.  They discovered that this homeless man had inherited a large sum of money from a relative and had accidentaly left it at the bench.  It tooks some fine detective work to reunited this man and his money.  He could not believe that there was still good people in the world who would turn over the money.  Now the homeless man is going to meet some family and try to get his life back in order.  We know ther are good people out there and we do wish this man the best luck.

If You Find A Wallet – What Would You Do?

Here is a story that will make you think.  It will make you wonder.  It will make you doubt the good in people.  Stay with it.  Watch it to the end.  This video is put together by a guy who likes to test people.  This time Dennis intentially drops his wallet to find out what people do when it happens.  He makes sure to have his credit card and money in the wallet.  On the first few tries people stop him right away and tell him he dropped the wallet.  He walked a little further and drops the wallet again.  This time it is picked up by a passerby.  They follow him as he makes he way to the mall.  They continue to follow him after he makes a purchase and walks on.  Could he be using the money or the credit card he finds in the wallet?  Where is he walking to now?  Does this make you think that this guy could take what he found and use the money?  They continue to follwo him.  Now they are noticing that the area he is walking to is getting familiar.  It is his neighborhood.  The place where Dennis lives.  He walks up to his house.  Now is the time to confront him.  This is when he find out the truth. He did not use his money.  He brought the wallet back to him.  So surprised and pleased by what he did Dennis insists he take the money as a reward.  How wonderful that he walked to return the wallet.  I just knew he would.

What do we miss?

This is a video made to remind us how much technology can remove us from each other instead of bringing us together.  What do we miss?  This video will make you stop and take a look at yourself and decide…am I too lost in technology?  As he says, “the touch pads take us out of touch” and “there are too many “I”s (Iphone, Ipad) not enough US.  Can we have conversation without abbreviation?  It makes you stop and think.  The thing we thought was bringing us together with social media is making us anti social.  I have noticed more and more families out to dinner at restaurants and not a one is talking to each other.  They just stare at the little screen in their hands.  It is even worse when only one is doing it and never notices how they are leaving the other sitting there staring around the room, not craving food as much as conversation.  It is just sad.  So make me a promise.  Put it down during dinner.  Never bring it to the bedroom.  Spend time talking about your day rather than posting about it.  Don’t misunderstand, I appreciate social media for what it was intended.  I love the fact that I can be a part of the lives of our family who lives far away.  Just don’t do it at the expense of those who are there with you.

Secret Santa in Kansas City

There is a man in Kansas City that uses this time of year for random acts of kindness.  Every year this man gives away away about $100,000 anonymously to needy people.  This year Secret Santa is getting the help of the Kansas City Police department to distribute his money to needy people.  The police went out on patrol and they would stop people who appeared to need some financial help this season.  Most people were really concerned when they were stopped until the officer explained why he stopped them.  Most people were so surprised that they burst into tears.  One lady even said that she was not going to be able to get her kids anything for Christmas until now.  Now this Secret Santa said he not only wanted to give money to people but also wanted the officers to be able to give it away.  There has been some bad police stories this year that he wanted the police to also get the joy of giving this money out.  They got the chance to be the bearer of good news for a change.  They got a chance to help homeless and the law abiders.  There were hugs and celebrations.  What a great way for the police to help Secret Santa to make the holidays better for people in need.  Great job Kansas City.

Helping Homeless through Music

What can we do to help the homeless?  Sometimes it seems this is too big for me to help.  What can just a few people do?  Well, here is a video that shows what a small group of people in New York City did to help one homeless man.  They asked the same thing.  What could I do?  Then they got together and decided that that there was something that they could do.  They went out and found a guy that had a sign and needed some help.  They sat down and just started singing.  What a perfect song too.  I love the reaction of the homeless man.  He was a part of a group for a while (which I think brought him much joy).  He also was so touched to see what happened when they started to sing.  People walking by were willing to help when the music started.  Thanks to this group who call themselves the Model Pranksters.  They helped show the people of New York and everyone watching this video that you can help.

Doing the Right Thing – HeTurns in Money

Here is a story about an honest man who does the right thing.  Joe Cornell is a hard working man who lives in Fresno, CA. Joe is currently working through the Salvation Army rehabilitation program.  While working one day he thought he saw something unusual.  When he went to investigate he found a bag full of money and checks.  He remembered seeing a Brinks truck pull away some time before.  Even though he is a man of few means and could really use the money, he didn’t give it a second thought.  ”I thought what kind of man do I want my grandkids to think I am”.   So he called his boss and told him that he found some money.  The police interviewed him and told him he was one in a million.  He said he was trying to get his life together and he wanted his family to be proud of him.  I researched this story and found out that Brinks did reward this man (even though he didn’t expect it) with $5000 and and also donated another $5000 to the Salvation Army program.  Way to go Brinks for giving him the recognition he deserved.  Joe, you are our hero by doing the right thing!!

Roommates Do The Right Thing – Return Cash

Now here is a good story about roommates that do the right thing.  Thanks to Annette D and Jody J for sending us this inspiring story.  This is one of those “What would you do?” stories.   A group of roommates in upstate New York went to a Salvation Army store looking for a couch for their apartment.  They bought the couch in March and having sat on it for sometime they noticed it was a bit “lumpy”.  One of them unzipped the cushion to discover a bag with money it.  As they searched the couch they found more and more.   After counting it they discovered the total came to over $40,000.  They also found a deposit slip with a woman’s name.  They all agreed that the right thing to do was return the cash to the rightful owner.  It turns out it belonged to a 91 year old woman who when she was ill her children sold her furniture not knowing she was storing her retirement money in the couch.

Isn’t it wonderful to hear of young people with such huge hearts to do the right thing and return the cash to the owner.  It makes us all think, “What would I do?”  I am sure most of us (if not all) would do just that, return the money.

Social is Really Not Social – Look Up

The message today is a good one.  The good news in this message will come if you listen to message.  This video written, performed and directed by Gary Turk has a message that most of us need.  It is clever how he tells a story of two people who if they didn’t “look up” from their technology would have missed their life.  Life can pass us by when we are too interested in something on our computer, tablet or phone.  We thought the new “social media” would make us closer but often time it tears us apart.  Gary does a wonderful job showing us how foolish we can be when we let our social media take over our lives.

This video has been making it’s way around the internet.  If you haven’t seen it you need to watch and share it with those around you who too may be forgetting that life is short and it is happening right in front of us.  Don’t miss it.  It is a little “preachy” but don’t let that stop you from hearing the message.  Isn’t a better future worth just under 5 minutes.
