Never Give Up

A Kind Heart Helping Others

Laraine Dawn Young was on vacation last month in Makati with her boyfriend Chris, when she experienced a wordless act of kindness by him that so melted her heart, she had to grab her phone to record the scene as it was unfolding. He stopped what he was doing and did something helping others. She called the video, “An Act of Compassion: The Man I Love Has The Most Beautiful Soul.” She tells her story: “Chris and I were walking out of our hotel in Makati when I saw some children sleeping on the sidewalk. I felt so bad for these kids – I told my boyfriend about them kids and he saw them just laying there looking tired and sickly. Unquestionably, he felt bad for them as well. He told me to watch our things because he wanted to go to the nearest convenience store – I thought maybe he was just thirsty or hungry so OK. After a few minutes, he came out with a bag of groceries and told me he’s going to give it to the kids. *I melted*

As he was crossing the street, I decided to take a video so I can keep reminding myself that I’ve been blessed with a man who is not only smart, sexy and handsome but one who is also beautiful inside and out. He didn’t know I was recording this video until he got back :)

I wanted to keep this video to myself, but I am proud of my man. I wanna share his kind deed to the world even if he deserves more recognition than this. How something so simple can mean so much to not only the ones you serve but the ones who witness you serving.  Take the time to look around and see if there is something you can do to help others.

A Little Boy Gets His Wish

Seven-year-old Giovanni, who is diagnosed with a life-threatening genetic disorder, was all smiles as his wish to meet John Cena was granted. He talks about his wish here.  This short video created by his mom aftet the boy was granted his Make A Wish request.  Pro Wrestler John Cena spent time with the little boy.  This wrestler is known for taking the time to meet with children who are ill and  sharing his philosophy of never giving up.
“Meeting John Cena has changed Giovanni’s outlook on life in the most positive ways. Now every time he needs to be seen he tells us he will never give up because John wouldn’t want him to! The amount of joy that his wish brought him cannot be described in words.” – Giovanni’s mom.  You can see the respect and admiration this little guy has for his hero.  What a great role model for this little one and others.  I have a new fond respect for this man.  This is how professional athletes should be with their fans.  Great job John Cena.

Mail Carrier Hero

A Hope Hull man is thanking a postal worker for saving his life following a horrific ordeal that left him lying wounded on the floor of his house for ten days. The man was unable to get help after a terrible fall and found different ways to stay alive until his mail carrier found him. Cissy Cartwright, who has been delivering mail for more than 20 years, knew something wasn’t right. Tommy Hope, 66, home sits back off the road in a secluded rural area. When she pulled up he yelled back to her for help. She found him on the floor, dehydrated and injured and learned that he’d been there for more than a week. She called 911 and waited with him until an ambulance arrived. Hope, who does not have immediate family nearby, fell inside his home on July 4th, suffering broken bones in his arm and other injuries to his leg and hip. He couldn’t get to his phone to make any calls. It was a very good thing that she came along when she did.  Without her checking on him who knows what would have come of Tommy Hope.  Thank you Cissy for caring enough to check on the people on your route.

If You Have A Body You’re An Athlete – FlyEase

This is not just a commercial for Nike.  In fact, it is not a commercial. It may be about Nike  but it about caring for people.  It all started when one of their employees had a stroke and they decided they wanted to do something to help him be able to put his shoes on by himself.  As they were developing this new type of shoe he said, “This is not just for me”.  They realized that they needed to create something for people who needed their help.  They needed to help all people who may need help due to some issue with their body. They got a message on social media from  a high school student Matthew Walzer from Parkland, Florida. Matthew has cerebal palsy. He was wrote he would be soon be going to college and did not want his parents to have to be there to put his shoes on for him.  He is a huge basketball fan. So they designed the shoe to look like a basketball shoe.  LaBron James met him and really made his day.  What a wonderful company to really care about the people who are using their products and not just about profits.  Way to Go Nike!!

Cancer Patient Weds from Hospital Bed

With a little help from friendly hospital staff, a terminally ill man was able to have the “best day” of his life and marry his girlfriend in his hospital room. Keith Borum and Nina Scott were married recently at the Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, New York. Nina Scott, now Borum, said even in the unusual setting she found the wedding perfect. ”The whole thing was great. I don’t know what my favorite moment was,” said Nina Borum. “I couldn’t imagine how great it could be or would be. The staff just outdid themselves … We couldn’t have done it no better.”  Nurses and other medical staff at the hospital helped make the wedding more special by finding people to donate flowers, cake and rings. The couple who have been together for three years were surrounded by friends and family all wearing protective blue medical gowns over their clothes to protect Keith Borum against infection.  Borum has been battling non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma for about 18 months, according to ABC station WABC. Earlier this year he ended up in the ER due to pain in his abdomen that turned out to be a cancerous mass. ”He’s been really going through so much and he can’t walk,” said Nina Borum. “It’s hard on him. He’s really hard…It’s just sunk his spirit.” But on his wedding day Keith Borum was able to lighten the mood by stealing his new wife’s sunglasses. Sitting in his hospital bed Keith Borum told WABC that in spite of his terminal diagnosis he was enjoying “the best day of my life.”

9 Year Old Builds Houses

When Hailey Fort was just 5 years old, she spotted a homeless man in Kitsap County, Washington where she lives. She asked her mom whether she could help him. Her mom said yes, and for the last four years, that’s what Hailey’s been doing: helping the homeless, with the help of her mom. She plans to build 12 mobile shelters this year. Houses for the homelss she says. Miranda said the family has already met with the city to make sure the shelter won’t cause a problem though its exact location has not yet been determined. “Our city ordinance on the issue states that it can be placed on a church lot. We have a few leads on churches that will allow the structures.” Food is another one of Hailey’s priorities. She grows fruits and vegetables, and hopes to grow 250 pounds for the homeless this year. She’s begun documenting her progress on a Facebook page “Hailey’s Harvest.” The homeless, her mom said, are people she counts as her friends. It’s that friendship, in part, that keeps her going. “Hailey is repeatedly told that she can stop at any time but she continues because this is her passion. I think a lot has to do with setting such high goals and then the rush she gets when she meets them.” In addition to the 12 mobile shelters and 250 pounds of food: 1000 toiletries, 500 feminine hygiene products and 100 coats. She’s trying to raise $1,000 on her GoFundMe page and is about three-fourths of the way there. The community has been supportive of Hailey’s efforts. The cost to build one shelter, her mom said, is about $300, but the reason that price is so low is because she gets many items donated. The walls are made of pallets, which are stuffed with recycled denim insulation. The structure has a shingled roof, drywall, wood siding, and vinyl flooring. The house will have window curtains, a solar-powered lamp and most importantly, a lock on the front door. What an amazing little girl.

92 year old adopts 76 year old as daughter

At age 92, Muriel Clayton is a mother again, having adopted the woman who’s been her “daughter” for more than six decades. Just not officially. Mary Smith, who’s now 76, knew Muriel as her fun older cousin as she was growing up, but family tragedy changed the dynamic. After he father passed away and her mother was ill and not able to care for her, Muriel took in Mary and she has been there ever since. ”I wanted her to be mine,” said Clayton.  She has always wanted to adopt her.  Out of respect, she wouldn’t adopt her until Smith’s biological mother, who had been ill for years, passed away.  June 9, inside Dallas County Court, they formally became mother and daughter. Now the record will show what Muriel Clayton has known in her heart all along. She has always known in her heart that they were mother and daughter but now it is official.  It is never too late to add to your family. What a beautiful family they make.

Music Touches the Lives of Seniors

A.G.  Rhodes Health and Rehab Wesley Woods in Atlanta Georgia they use the power of music to offer therapy for seniors. While they listen to music they are transported back to other times.  Some to childhood memories others to memories of loved ones and other times. Music therapist John Able uses the Music to Memories program with many Rhodes residents. For some it brings them back from a place where they are trapped to rejoin their families even for just a fleeting moment.  They come together daily and at that time the music seems to transform them.  It helps them to forget about their current situations, like health and lack of mobility and takes them back to a time when they could get up and dance and feel the music.  As you watch you see how the music touches the seniors.  It not only touched those in the center but also the reporter covering the story.

“When most of our experiences are behind us, it is the gift of looking back, remembering how life was, connecting us to how life can still feel, as long as we have the music.”  Never take the music out of your heart.

92 Year Old Finishes Marathon

Meet the 92-year-old Harriet Thompson who has become the oldest person to ever finish a marathon, running almost 50 km in 7 hours. This time she ran in the Rock n Roll Marathon in San Diego, California.  She has finished this marathon 15 times before.  She runs in the Rock n Roll Marathon because it raises money for Blood Cancer Research and patient services.  She had cancer twice and her husband died in January from cancer and one of her sons just started chemotherapy. How inspiring this woman is to keep running.  She is so amazing and I can’t believe I would ever be able to run a marathon let alone run one when I was 92 years old.  She is so amazing and so inspiring. It just proves that you need to keep moving to keep moving.  Way to go Harriet.

Couple Celebrates 70th Anniversary with Amazing Gifts

A Bakersfield couple just celebrated a huge milestone.  Richard and Mary Arambula celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.  Their family decided that for this special occasion they needed some greetings from some special people.  It all started with their granddaughter that was living in Germany at the time. She sent a letter to the Vatican and to the President of the United States.  When she got a response from both of them she thought maybe more celebrities would send a note.  She was so surprised to see that she received over 150 notes including one from each of the living presidents.  She had sent a request to Joan Rivers and unfortunately she died before she could send something so her publisist sent a broach and a shawl.  One of their favorites was a note from Tommy Lasorda and Steve Garvey as she is a huge Dodger fan.  They also received many local celebrities as well.  They never thougtht they would receive just a wonderful response.  It truly made this anniversary even more special.  Their marriage was so successsful as they said it was because “you need to learn to be tolerant of one another.” Congratulations Richard and Mary…, many more to come.
