Lets praise God and give thanks as well. Spread the word and share so we can have many people come together and pray together!! Find your local events by visiting www.NationalDayOfPrayer.Org “Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is praying in your presence this day.” 1 Kings 8:28.  This is a beautiful song and video created to just remind you to take some time on this day to pray for our nation, our military, our children, police and public servants and others this day.

Oldest Living Vet Turns 109

Texan Richard Overton, the country’s oldest veteran, is the perfect model of aging well by living well. He will be 109 next month.  He is the perfect example of how clean living = logevity. He mows his own grass, does his own yard work, takes out his own trash and does his own shopping.  He still drives his own car.    Some people have asked him if he is going to get a riding lawn mower.  He told them he wants a push mower for the exercise. Hia philosophy is to keep living and keep moving.  What an inspiration this man is. Can you just think about what changes he has seen in his life.  How amazing to have lived through all these major changes decade by decade.  He seems to have a very sweet spirit also.  You have to be a kind person to survive all these years.  God Bless you Mr. Overton.  May you continue on as long as you are happy, healthy and willing.

We See You – A Special Thank You

WOW… this is a special tribute to our police officers who put their lives on the line daily for us.  This video is very moving and reminds us all of the heart of a spouse of an officer and just how difficult it is to live your life knowing the kind of job your spouse  has.  This video makes you walk in the shoes of our police officers.  It reminds you of the stress and feelings of these officers as they try to keep the things they do and see inside.  We do notice how hard they work and how much they help. Take the time to tell an officer that you appreciate his service.  How about buying lunch if you see them at a fast food restaurant?  Or just saying thank you.  These folks never know if the next stop will just go wrong if not for them, but for one of their coworkers.  These days everyone is watching.  Let’s see if we notice the good things they do as much as the bad thing a few do.  Thank you officers.  We do see you.  We do appreciate you and we want you to know.  Share this video. Let’s show them we really do care.

Hero Marine Dog

Here is a pet story you won’t easily forget.  This story is about a marine.  Not just any marine.  This is a dog who is just as much a marine as her handlers. She is the subject of a new book called “Top Dog, The story of Marine hero Lucca”.  She served our country in Iraq and Afganistan sniffing out IEDs saving soldier’s lives.  Her name is Mama Lucca.  On March 23, 2012 her life changed.  There was a IED that was boobytrapped and took off her leg.  She was rushed to the medic.  Her handler stayed with her as she recovered.   Today, Lucca is a family dog.  She spends her days at VA hospitals visiting with other wounded warriors .  They can relate to her as she had known what they also know.  A new mission for Lucca giving our recovering troops encouragement.  What an amazing animal.  A soldier during the day and a pet when she goes home.  What an inspiration this dog is to the vets she visits.  Lucca you are a hero in our eyes.  Thank you for your service.

Santa Helps Soldier Propose

This will my last post about Christmas for this year.  I just couldn’t let this one get by.  This story is about a soldier who wanted to propose to his girlfriend.  The problem was he is still stationed in Afganistan.  He, of course, wanted to do it himself but because he would not be back in the states until next June he needed to enlist the help of others.  He first called his girlfriend’s mom and asked if she could help.  She got Kimberly Robert’s dad to help get her to go to the mall to ” do Christmas shopping”.   She went along and agreed to sit with Santa and tell him what she wanted for Christmas.  She told Santa that she wanted her boyfriend to come home from Afganistan safe.  When she did, Santa pulled out a bouquet of flowers.  He then got down on on one knee and read the proposal that was written by her boyfriend. Clint.  As you can see in this video she is totally taken by surprise.  Great job Clint.  We think this was a great idea and really worked.  I am sure Kimberly will never forget her proposal.  Take care Clint and get home to her as soon as you can.

Santa Brings Another Soldier Home

This time it is in St. Charles Missouri.  Santa is seeing all the children at Bass Pro Shops.  Like usual the children are coming to Santa to tell him what they want for Christmas.  Many want dolls, trucks, bikes and balls.  But today, there is a special little girl who is coming to visit Santa and ask for a very special gift. Mady  Pholman and her mom have come to Bass Pro Shop to see Santa and ask for a different kind of gift.  Mandy asks Santa if he can bring her daddy home from Afghanistan.  He has been away for many months and she misses her daddy very much.  While she is stting on Santa’s lap she sees the door open to the house next to Santa and out walks her daddy.  What a happy day for her.  If only all the little children who have a mommy or daddy away would be able to come home for Christmas.  We can only hope that there are many stories like this.  Thanks to Bass Pro Shop for helping with this reunion.  Merry Christmas to all those serving in the military this holiday season.  May you all be able to return home soon safe and sound.

Soldier Surprises Family

I never get tired of these stoies.  At this time of year we see lots of stories about soldiers surprising their family with an early return.  This week and next week we will probably share a couple of these types of stories.  It is so wonderful to see the family as they realize that their soldier has come home. Most of us will never understand the joy of seeing a family member coming home unexpectantly for the holidays.  Have you ever stopped a soldier that you see at the airport or walking through a store to just say “Thank you for your service”?  There are too many that don’t get to come home for the holidays.  When you see the ones that do please stop them and tell them just how glad you are to see them and how much you appreciate their service.  They can’t hear it enough.  I don’t know who was happier in the video – the family or the soldier.  Welcome home and we wish you and your family a Merry Christmas.

9/11 Firefighter’s Daughter Joins FDNY

This story is about the latest graduating class of the FDNY.  Josephine Smith graduated last week from the New York City Fire Acedemy.  It is not news that woman becomes a firefighter.  It is news that she is the first daughter of a fallen 9/11 firefighter to join the FDNY.  She is joining some 13 years after her father was taken when the north tower fell.  Her father, Kevin Smith(who graduated from this same academy some 3 decades ago) died when he was working on 9/11.  She spent 18 weeks of training to join the only 44 women who have joined the FDNY.  She has always wanted to become a firefighter.  She always wanted to follow in her father’s footsteps.  She repeates the same three words every day. “Make Him Proud”. Those who know her say she has what it takes to become one of New York City’s bravest, just like her dad.  I am sure her dad would be so proud this day.  We honor you today, Firefighter Smith.  You are our hero today.  Good Luck to you Josephine.

Thank you to our Veterans

It is Veteran’s Day.  I first want to say Thank You to all our veterans.  Thank you to all the families of those brave heroes that served and did not return.  We can never truly express our gratitude for all you have sacrificed for our country.  Too many times this holiday sneaks past without many realizing it came and went.  It is one of those holidays that doesn’t get much attention.  This holiday should be one we never forget.  Without the sacrifices of these brave individuals our country would not be as it is today. Here is a video of a powerful message given by President Ronald Reagan.  This video is a true and inspiring message of how everyone should honor and respect those in the military.  I hope you share this on this very special day.  We need this message more now even than ever.  We are Americans and we have these brave heroes to thank for that right.  God Bless America.

Heaven was needing a hero

In preparation of the Veteran’s Day holiday I was looking for an appropriate video and I saw this one.  It was made in the memory of all those lost in wars both past and present.  It is created with the music from country star Jo Dee Messina. I am sure you will all be touched when you listen to the lyrics.  Here are a few them …

I came by today to see you
I just had to let you know
If I knew the last time that I held you was the last time
I’d have held you, and never let go

Oh, it’s kept me awake nights, wondering
I lie in the dark, just asking why
I’ve always been told
You won’t be called home
Until it’s your time

I guess heaven was needing a hero
Somebody just like you
Brave enough to stand up
For what you believe
And follow it through
When I try to make it make sense in my mind
The only conclusion I come to
Is heaven was needing a hero
Like you ….

Thank you to all who are serving and have served .
