Hero Marine Dog

Here is a pet story you won’t easily forget.  This story is about a marine.  Not just any marine.  This is a dog who is just as much a marine as her handlers. She is the subject of a new book called “Top Dog, The story of Marine hero Lucca”.  She served our country in Iraq and Afganistan sniffing out IEDs saving soldier’s lives.  Her name is Mama Lucca.  On March 23, 2012 her life changed.  There was a IED that was boobytrapped and took off her leg.  She was rushed to the medic.  Her handler stayed with her as she recovered.   Today, Lucca is a family dog.  She spends her days at VA hospitals visiting with other wounded warriors .  They can relate to her as she had known what they also know.  A new mission for Lucca giving our recovering troops encouragement.  What an amazing animal.  A soldier during the day and a pet when she goes home.  What an inspiration this dog is to the vets she visits.  Lucca you are a hero in our eyes.  Thank you for your service.

Police Officer Stays With Lost Dogs

This is a story about a Kansas City Police officer.  Morning commuters found  a police officer sitting on the side of the road waiting with two dogs who had been separated from their owners.   It was a cold day and he found the dogs wondering close to the roadway.  He stayed there and waited with them until the humane society could pick them up.   A passerby took a photo and spread it around on Facebook.  It spread like wildfire.  It even ended up at the shelter where they were taken.  Their owners went by the shelter desperate to find their pets.  They were so relieved to find them there and unhurt.  They were also so grateful for the police officer who took such good care of their pets.  The news team tried to speak with the police officer but he declined an interview and said that he was only doing his duty to serve and protect the 4 legged citizens of his community. What a great attitude.  This is just one of many examples of good police officers who will do anything to serve the community.  Officer, you are truly a good man and a hero in our book.

Neil Diamond helping shelter dogs

October was “Adopt A Shelter Dog” month.  Neil Diamond was launching his new album and he used this opportunity to help bring this message about shelter dogs in the public.  Here is part of his music video for his new song “Something Blue” in which he uses shelter dogs in his video.  This group of dogs were from the Colorado Animal Rescue.  The result is adorable and the scenery is not bad either.  Not only is Neil Diamond promoting his music but he is also bringing attention to shelter dogs and he even adopted two of them after the filming.  Talk about using music to help others!  What a great message to us all that we need to help animals by taking in shelter animals to be our pets.  If you can’t adopt a shelter dog why not make a donation to your local animal rescue to help out. Please enjoy this portion of this music video and support your local animal shelter. Thanks Neil too, I always knew you were a class act.

Puppy Whisperer – You have to see this one

I know everyone loves a pet story.  This is a cute simple story about a box of puppies.  You can’t help but just love to see stories about puppies.  This is a short video with a box of yipping little puppies that are lulled to sleep by “the puppy whisperer”.  I will always remember this video whenever I hear the song Good Night Sweetheart.  Nothing makes us smile more than puppies and kittens.  Please enjoy this and share the story to bring a smile to face of your friends.

The Healing Touch of a Pet

When little Caleb was injured in a head on collision there didn’t seem to be much hope for recovery.  He suffered a tramatic brain injury.  The tissues in the brain slammed forward killing many cells in his brain.  He also had a broken leg and arm.  His recovery was going to take a very long time.  Watching this video you see his progress and his improvement.  This improvement was helped along by the help of a therepy animal. Colonel was the name of the dog that they use at his hospital.  The healing touch of this dog made all the difference. Once the dog was added to his therepy you could see how much he wanted to play with the dog.  He was doing things to play with the dog that allowed him to use his body to improve just by “playing” with the dog.  What an amazing improvement he made by playing with this dog.  As you continue to watch his improvement is amazing.  Playing with the dog makes Caleb forget that he is really in therapy.  The love his has for the dog is a key to his development and recovery.  Thanks to the volunteers and the animal program that this hospital provided helped save this little boy.  What an inspiring story.

A Tale of Two Friends

Here is a wonderful video of two unlikely friends.   Tory Island is very small and quaint little village on an island but they have one thing that sets them apart from others.  They have a Labrador who has an interesting friendship.  Dougie the Dolphin comes most days to play with local hotel’s pet Labrador.  The Labrador stays and plays until the dolphin heads back out to sea.  In this short video we get to see a little glimpse of their friendship.   What an amazing thing that happens between these two very unlikely friends.  We humans could take a lesson from these two.  It is sometimes a challenge to step out of your comfort area to spend time in someone else’s.  Who knows how the two met and became such friends. You just wonder what brought the two toeger for the first time.  And what makes him continue to return.  Makes you want to be able to read minds and know what they are thinking as they play together.  It is so sweet and touching.  Please enjoy and share with others.  Thanks to Patricia M for showing us this great story of friends.

Dog saves man’s life from bear attack

Hiking in the woods  can be a peaceful time spent with family or even alone.  This story is about a man and his dog going on a nice walk in the forest.  Steven Krichbaum and his dog, Henry, were hiking through George Washington Forest in West Virgina recently.  He sees two bear cubs running up a slope.  Next he sees the mama bear run towards him.  The bear was biting his legs when his dog came running up to help him.  Henry, the dog began attacking the bear giving Steven time to grab a rock so he could get her to stop biting him.  It worked and the bear turned and walked away. Now they had to walk 3/4 mile back to their car.  After receaching the car they drove to the nearest stop (a fruit stand) where owner Eddie Richard and his wife called 911 to get help.  Both the dog an Steven were injured in the attack but will both be fine.  The reporters state that the most common bear attack is when a mama bear has cubs in the area.   Great Job Henry for being there for your owner.

This Dog is Worth His Weight in Gold and Diamonds

Tucker is the family pet of the Matykowski family of Wisconsin.  He is known in his family to be the “food burgler”. Recently Lois and her granddaughter were eating popsicles outside.  She set hers down and turned away and few seconds later when she turned back, the popsicle was gone and there was Tucker smacking his lips.  Soon he began coughing up the popsicle – stick and all.  In a couple of days later Tucker began getting sick again but this time there was a bigger surprise.  As Lois cleaned up the mess she found her wedding ring.  To her surprise her missing ring appearantly had been eaten by Tucker over 5 years ago. She had searched high and low for that ring.  After taking Tucker to the vet to get checked out the vet said that the popsicle stick may have dislodged the ring and there were no more surprises in his belly.  She loves that she got her ring back and forgives Tucker to scarfing up her diamond ring.  From now on they will be more careful what “treats” Tucker gets. Thanks to Pierre C for bringing us this cute pet story of the week.

Owen and Haatchi – Special Friends

I have remiss at bringing our weekly animal story.  I apologize to all you animal lovers out there.  Animals are special friends to many.  Thank you to a friend of mine, Joanna W who brought me this story.  She herself is a special friend to many dogs.  This story is about a little boy with a rare condition which causes severe muscle stiffness.  He uses a wheelchair and was scared of strangers.  That is until he met Haatchi.  The family adopted Haatchi who’d had his back leg and tail amputated.  Haatchi also knows what it is like to be different.   Owen loves this dog and his dog loves him.  They seem to take care of each other.  It is so inspiring how a dog can know to take care of this little boy.  You can tell that they will be forever friends.  They need each other.  You can tell by the way the little boy pets the dog that he loves him so.  He loves to share him in at dog shows.  This video was from last year when Owen and Haatchi were entered in a contest called Crufts – Friends for Life. they won with 54% of the vote.  Congratulations Owen!!  You do have a Friend for Life.

Family Cat Saves Little Boy

This story is flying across the Internet and the news.  It was brought to us from Davilyn F, LeeAnn M and Joanna W.  If you haven’t seen it yet you must watch this amazing story of a family cat and the neighborhood dog.  It all happened in Bakersfield, CA when little 4 year old Jeremy was in the front yard riding his bike.  He was all alone when a neighborhood dog came up from behind and attacked him.  You can see the horrifying scene from the security camera when the dog bites Jeremy and drags him off his bike.  Just then the family cat Tara runs out and jumps on the dog chasing him away. Yes the cat comes to the rescue.  It is amazing that the cat could rescue this little boy and stop the attack.  Have you ever seen a cat chase off an attacking dog?  The family had adopted the cat 5 years ago when the cat followed them home from the park.  Jeremy has always been special to the cat even when he was a baby.  And as Jeremy says, “She’s a hero”.  And we think so too.
