Dog Gets Hit By Car – Saves Owner’s Life

It is time for our ALGN Pet Post of the Week.  This is an AMAZING story of what a dog went through in order to save the life of her owner.  A pet dog (Husky / Beagle mix) named Lucy was on a regular walk with her owner (John Miles) in Massachusetts.  .  This walk was a regular occurrence.  In fact, they even go on the same route.  This time, however, during their walk, both Lucy and John were hit by a car and seriously injured.  It was just after this accident that the really amazing act occurred.  John blacked out (and really doesn’t remember anything after getting her leash to start the walk).  Lucy, however,  knew she had to save her owner.  She knew where the closest place was where she could find people.  She ran to a dental office and barked and barked until someone opened the door.   She then limped back to John (who was still lying in the road) and stayed beside him, refusing to leave his side, until paramedics arrived to save him.  John doesn’t have any memory of the event, but he says that he was told by others that Lucy just stayed by him and whined (and literally cried) because he wouldn’t get up.  She wanted to save him, but she had done all that she could do.  Now, she just worried.  Supposedly, beagles actually have tear ducts and people say that they actually saw her cry.    It is a good thing she got the paramedics to come save them, because they (John & Lucy) were both so badly injured.  From the injury, John has two broken legs, a broken arm, and more than a dozen fractures in her face.  Lucy has a torn ACL and some leg fractures.  John’s daughter said that Lucy has been moping around the house and crying as she wishes her owner, John, would come back.  John was scheduled for surgery first, but they both will require lots of surgery.  Yet, through it all, not only is John in shock that his dog would go through so much to save him, it is quite a miracle that it all worked out so well.  John says that, when they are both heeled up, they will both be going for some great walks again.  Yep…Pets can be AMAZING!!! Sometimes, they save our lives, figuratively.  Other times, they may just be the one to save us, PHYSICALLY, as well!!

Have a GREAT day…by making it a great day for someone else!!!

Jimmy Stewart Reads Poem About His Dog

Good Morning. Jimmy Stewart is the star of today’s post for A Little Good News.  I LOVE “It’s A Wonderful Life” — and I’m a big Jimmy Stewart fan.  So, I decided that, since we are coming up on Christmastime, it would be a great idea to let Jimmy Stewart start in our “Pet Post of the Week” today.  This is a clip from when Jimmy Stewart was a guest on the Johnny Carson show years ago and read a poem that he wrote about his dog.  You remember, of course, how Jimmy had that unique style of talking where he would stammer a bit.  Well, at the beginning of this clip, Stewart does that and Johnny does one of the things he was the best out (making a fun joke about it with his incredibly quick wit — without offending his guest).  Then, Jimmy Stewart, after getting permission from Johnny, reads to him and the audience a poem that he wrote about his dog, Beau.  It is a beautifully written poem and will probably touch you (especially the dog lovers and/or Jimmy Stewart fans out there).  I know this isn’t really “news”, but I liked it and I hope you do, too.  I also hope that it will brighten your day a bit.  May your day be MERRY and BRIGHT (and all of your future ones, too)!!!!

Have a GREAT day…by making it a great day for someone else!!!

Dog Rescued After Beach Abandonment

Today’s ALGN post of a dog rescue is our “Animal Post of the Week”.  There isn’t a lot to the video, but it is nice to see the great work that these people do and the “new life” that they provide to one dog after another.  This dog that was rescued (Remi) is a pit bull that ends up being such a loving and kind pet.  She just needed some attention and care and as a result, she gives it all back and then some in the way that only a dog can do.  We thought it would be great to have a pet story (about a dog, in this case) on Thanksgiving weekend.  Yesterday, hopefully we were all thinking of the people in our lives that we are thankful for.  But, today, we thought it would be a great reminder of the dogs (and other pets) in our lives that we are thankful for.  We wanted to find another one of the amazing stories where a dog or other pet saves a life.  Those are great stories.  But, instead, we found one where the life that was saved was the dog’s.  But, once the dog was saved, she gave much more love and happiness to her new owner!!  Let us each look to “save” others (people, dogs and any other person or creature that we can save).  Happy Thanksgiving weekend.

Now…Go have a GREAT day…by making it a great day for someone else!!!

Ricochet — The Dog Who Likes to Surf

Surf’s Up!!  Welcome to our “Pet / Animal Post of the Week”.  Today’s post is about a wonderful dog named Ricochet.  You will enjoy watching this video and reading the story of Ricochet, the service dog that became a “surf-ice dog”, instead.  It is not only a touching story, but it also has a great message about not trying to make people (or dogs) into something that they are not meant to be.  Instead, we should help them become the very best at what they ARE meant to be.  And, in Ricochet’s case, that is becoming a surfer.  After becoming a surfer, she successfully helped raise lots of money for others.  And she did it by doing what she loved to do (surf).  She continues to surf and to help others.  What would have happened to Ricochet had her owner just given up and viewed her as a “failure”?  Doesn’t this happen to many children (and animals)?  Their parents (or owners) give up on them because they didn’t turn out the way they expected.  Yet, they weren’t failures.  I hope this video helps change the way we view others.

“Duck Man” Saves The Day!!

DUCK!!  No, I’m not warning you that you should duck.  I’m telling you what today’s ALGN post is about.  It is time for our “animal post of the week” and today’s post is our first ever post about ducks!!  Some of you may have already seen this, but it is a neat story of a banker whose 2nd story office window was just inches away from where a mother duck had been nesting on her 11 eggs.  Then, the eggs hatched and the mother found herself in a predicament.  The mother duck flew down to the ground below, but her 11 little day old ducklings couldn’t fly and were afraid to make the jump.  But, then it was “DuckMan to the rescue!”.  Joel  Armstrong, the banker, whose office was right next to where the mother duck had been nesting the eggs went down below and coaxed the baby ducks off the ledge.  As they fell to the ground, he caught each one and set them by their mom who still waited for the others to join her.  He had to climb a ladder to get the last three off the ledge.  Once all 12 ducks were on the ground (the mother and her 11 babies), he and a crowd of people who had been watching and cheering all helped guide the duck family to water.  This is a fun story to watch.  Three cheers for “Duck Man”!!

Daisy — The Little Pup Who Believed!!

Today’s ALGN post is about a puppy named Daisy — a wonderful little pup that will be an inspiration to you.  It is our animal / pet post of the week and we hope this will be a great one for you to start your weekend off in a great way.  Daisy’s story starts off rather sad, but you’ll love the way it ends up.  This post is a photo and video montage with music and text to tell the story.  And, it is a great (and TRUE) story.  One morning, a young woman named Jolene was on her way to work when she saw something move on the side of the road.  She pulled over and found that it was a small, scared pup, who couldn’t really move.  Her heart broke for this little puppy. She carefully lifted it into her car to take it to the vet hospital.  The puppy couldn’t lift its head or even wag its tail.  At the hospital, X-rays revealed that this puppy (who they determined was about  about 5 months old) and that her spine had been broken for about a month.  Jolene decided that she wanted to adopt this poor little pup.  The doctors felt that they could fix the spine…and donations came pouring in from all around as people heard of the story.  You heart will soar as you see the results of the surgery.  The video shows this wonderful puppy’s progress at various stages following the surgery.  Although this video is about a puppy, it is a REMARKABLE story of never giving up, even when life has tossed you aside to be forgotten and die….and a story of just how much a little help can change the life of another!!

Tortoise to the Rescue (Slowly)!!

It is time for ALGN’s  “Animal Post of the Week”.  This week, instead of the usual animals we have had, we are posting one of a tortoise being the hero.  It is a very simple message, but a great one, nonetheless.  We want to thank Dick C. for sending this our way.  Oftentimes, we don’t give animals much credit for having feelings / concern for others.  Today’s post proves otherwise.  It is a video of two tortoises. One tortoise is upside down, with no hope, whatsoever of ever getting right side up.  But, his situation changes when his fellow “Good Samaritan” tortoise sees the predicament that he is in.  He moves over and helps get his buddy right side up so that they both can move on with their day.  It seems that this tortoise acted like there was no other option.  Why can’t we, in the human world, be more like this tortoise?  We need to feel that their is no other option but to stop and help when we see someone in trouble.  And, as we do, we will find that OUR day (and our life) becomes much better as we spend our time helping others.  Thank you, Mr. Tortoise, for the friendly little reminder that you gave me today.

Fallen Soldier’s Dog Saved…Again!

If cats have nine lives, how many does this dog have?  Welcome to our “Pet / Animal” post of the week for ALGN.  And thank you to Denise S. for sending this one to us.  Some of you will remember the dog that army specialist, Justin Rollins found in Iraq.  He saved her life and after he was killed, the Rollins family worked tirelessly in 2007 to get “Hero” (the name that Justin gave her) sent to the United States to live with them.  Then, recently, this cherished dog was in a house on fire and it looked as though she was not going to make it.  She was not breathing when they found her.  They said that, even with a special oxygen mask designed for dogs, things did not look good.  However, then, a bit of a miracle took place and she started breathing.  Just 24 hours later, you could hardly tell that there had been anything wrong with Hero, the dog, at all.  Nobody can convince the Rollins family that their son, Justin, didn’t have a hand in making things work out they way that they did.  Now this wonderful dog can continue to help the Rollins family with the joy and healing she has brought since arriving from Iraq.

Hero Dog Saves Another

They say that a dog is man’s best friend.  In today’s ALGN video post, we see that a dog is also dog’s best friend!!  Welcome to our “animal post of the week”!!  Today’s video post is very short, but you will love it.  A big thank you to Dick C., who sent us this clip.  It is a wonderful video of an amazing dog who risks his own life in order to try and save the life of another dog.  And, the whole thing was caught on surveillance camera.  One dog tried to cross a very busy roadway / highway and got hit.  The other dog then risks his own life, going out into the very busy traffic to grab the other dog and pull it to the side of the road (out of traffic) in order to try and save its life.  You will be as stunned as we were when you watch this true hero in action.  The only thing this dog was missing was his cape — because he (or she) truly was a super-hero!!  We hope this brightens your day.  Please share with your friends.

Stray Dog Drags Crash Victim to Safety

You’ll hug your dog after you watch today’s video!!  Today’s ALGN post is our “Animal / Pet” story of the week.  And, it is another “classic” story (one that happened a while back — I believe sometime in 2010 – but is a great story).  It was recommended to us by one of our subscribers, Sharon A.  We agree with her that this dog and his story needs to be shared with more people.  Shannon took a curve too fast and her car rolled.  She was knocked out and the car was far enough away from the road that it would NEVER be seen.  Out of nowhere came a stray dog who took a good hold of her top and jacket with his teeth and dragged her out of the car and all the way back to the side of the road.  How in the world did this dog know to do this?  And, what gave him the strength to pull it off?  Shannon is convinced that this dog saved her life.  Animals are all on this earth for great reasons, but some are super special. I LOVE these stories of dogs doing incredible things…and not always jut for their owners.  As you watch this 5 minute video, you will see what I mean about HERO dogs (and that is the name that ended up going to this stray).  You will also get to see what they do with Hero (the dog) after this event.  It’s a great story.  Pass it on to your dog lovin’ friends and family!!

Have a GREAT day…by making it a great day for someone else!!!
