Serving Others

Friends Helping Friends

Neighbors helping Neighbors.  What would you do to help a neighbor in need?  Here is a real feel good story.  There are many things that a farmer has to do but the one thing that matters the most is to harvest their crops.  This is a story about a farmer who became ill  with terminal cancer and was not able to get his crops in at harvest time.  That is when his neighbors came in to help.  Many farmers  help harvest hundreds of acres in one day to help friend with terminal cancer. When a small community in Illinois learned of a local farmer’s terminal cancer diagnosis, they pulled together the way they usually do and harvested all of his 450 acres of corn – in one day. Carl Bates, 55, of Galva, Illinois, has a “fast, aggressive cancer,” according to his younger brother.  When it was time to get his crops harvested his friends and neighbors came to help.  This is what friendship is all about.  They were able to accomplish something in one day that would have taken him much longer.  He was not able to get his crop in and would have lost this whole season.  His friends wouldn’t let that happen.  What a wonderful thing for them to do.

He bought 100 Hamburgers

This is another wonderful story of how simple it is to make a difference.  Will it fix the problem of homeless, no.  Will it make a difference to some, you bet it will. Taking a few moments to make a difference to others is something anyone can do.  Today we watch when Lance stepped up to the counter at McDonald’s and asked for 100 McDoubles, the cashier thought it was all a joke. But when he started selflessly passing out food to the homeless, my heart was touched. This teen and his friends are amazing role models for the young generation!  This is a wonderful heart warming video. Thank you to Lance for thinking of this and sharing it with us.

Officers give out Car Seats Instead of Tickets

Texas police officers pulled over a man who had three young daughters in the back seat, none of which were in car seats. Instead of issuing tickets for the violations, the officers pooled their money and bought the dad three car seats.  Cedar Park patrol officers Gower and Hawkins start their day expecting to be giving out tickets and to be there to protect and serve.   This past Saturday they went above and beyond the call of duty.  They noticed a car that had expired plates and broken tail light.  When one of the officers went over to talk to the driver they noticed the three girls sitting in the back seat without car seats.  They remembered hearing stories about this family and how they were now living out of their car.  The men knew that giving tickets for the missing car seats would not do anything to help the situation so while one officer talked to the dad the other went off to Walmart.  The officiers used thier own money to purchase the car seats.  What a great example of true compassion these men are.  I love the last line of the video.  ”Proving the power of the badge is made stronger by the hearts that wear them”.

A Special Cart for a Special Child

Grocery store trips weren’t easy for 2-year-old Beatrice and her mother Melody. Beatrice’s cerebral palsy prevents her from being able to fit in a standard cart so mom would have to get creative. That was until her grocery store changed everything.  This is an amazing story how a store went out of their way to fill a need and help this family and many others.  Manager Mike saw a need and filled it.  A small jesture that can make life so much better for many families with the same issues.  Now this little girl and her mom can enjoy shopping like other little children.  We are so pleased to share this story today.  This is a store that really cares about the people who shop there.  Since reading this story I have actually seen this cart at our local grocery store in honor of another local little girl.  Does your store have one? If not, stop by the customer counter and ask why. Lets see if we can get a cart in every store.  Wouldn’t that be wonderful?  A simple way to help someone out that could use it.

A Random Act for A Pizza Delivery Person

What is more special, giving someone something they expect or to give the unexpected.  Many workers live mostly on their tips.  Servers and delivery drivers are a few that really count on their tips to suppliment their income.  This video shows a group of people (this group just happens to be a church group) that decided they wanted to share their good fortunes by doing a good deed for an unexpecting person.  So… they ordered a pizza.  Just one pizza.  They had been learning about being generous. So they decided to show their generosity they took up a special offering.  Her tip was $9 but they have a gift for her of $1046.00 to just help her with her life.  Nothing expected, nothing required. Just a gift.  Thank you Sycamore Creek Church in Pickerington Ohio, for wrapped up a monthly missions emphasis on “Random Acts of Kindness,” by surprising an unsuspecting pizza delivery driver. What a wonderful unexpected gift to a stranger.  What could you do to surprise a stranger with a random act of kindness?  It doesn’t have to be something as big as this example but it could be something as simple as a smile.  Think about it.  You can make a difference.

Washing Clothes for the Homeless

Austrailia’s first mobile laundry is helping the homeless.  Founded in October 2014, the world first free mobile laundry has since completed over 45 000 kgs of free laundry for Australia’s homeless. With the key aim of connecting the community, by restoring respect, raising health standards and reducing the strain on resources, they work together as a community and have found a way to treat others the way they want to be treated. Then when the cyclone hit they also took their idea and helped out communities that could not wash due to the issues caused by this horific storm.  They said their goals are to restore respect, raise health standards and reduce the stress on resources.  The people who have used the services cannot believe what it does for them and the people around them.  They are soon launching their 4th service area. Thanks for all your help and support to your community and the people you serve.  Your idea is amazing and I hope it spreads to more and more areas.  Learn more and donate today at www.orangeskylaundry.com.au

So God Made A Dog

Those of you who have dogs will really understand and love this video.  Those of you who don’t have a dog may be able to understand the crazyness of people who love them.  These animals come into our lives usually as a cute puppy as a gift for a child.  Sometimes they are adopted older and just join the family.  You can’t figure out why you added them to your family and then before you know it you can’t figure out how you go on without them in your family.  This is just a beautiful poem with pictures that really portay the fellings you get when you have a dog in the family.  This tells us the things we already know  and somethings we don’t.  It reminds us of the loyalty of those friends we call dogs.  Take a moment and just enjoy this short video poem.  Share this those who love dogs, those who don’t and especially those who need to understand dogs.  It is one of the best descriptions I have ever seen for these furry members of our family members.  There is no better companion, friend, family and partner than a faithful dog.  Those that have never had one cannot understand the connection between a dog and his family.  Enjoy and Share

Dog Saves Little Girl

This is a story from last winter about a little girl who wandered off from the family home.  Search and Rescue teams searched the area for 15 hours looking for missing three year old Victoria. She had wandered away from her home on a cold February night and got lost in the woods behind her house. Finally she was found and it was discovered that their family dog, Blue, a Queensland Heeler, had stayed with her all night and kept her warm in the cold temperatures. What a hero Blue is! Those that have pets in their family realize not only how much those pets mean to their family but also how much the family means to the pets.   You can tell it in this story of the little girl.  The dog knew she was not where she should be and that there was no one to take care of her except him.  So that is just what he did. He took care of her.  Who would know that it would turn out to be the family dog that saves her. What a great family member….even though he is a dog, he is a member of this family.

The Littlest Mailman

Carter and Postman Mike have been best buddies since Mike started delivering mail in his neighborhood.  The  four-year-old boy who idolizes his neighborhood letter carrier got the chance to see his hero in action. The United States Postal Service let the boy go behind the scenes and made him an honorary mailman for a day. The Knoxville Tennesee post office invited Carter to come to the post office and see what postman Mike does besides delivering mail.  They looked around and met the other postal workers.  Everyone was excited to meet Carter since they had heard so much about him.  They also presented him a gift of a hat and a little truck.  They gave him a certificate to make him an honorary post man.  How great for this post office to do this for this little 4 year old.  That is a bunch of caring individuals who would go out of their way to make this day special for this little guy. Great job  Knoxville.

A Very Special Thank You

I challenge you to go get that box of tissues before you begin to watch this tribute video.  This is a video about a wonderful group of special people who have been on the news recently.  I can never say enough good things about nurses.  Nurses are the glue that holds the hospitals together.  Doctors are important but the care given by the nurses is so important. Now this video is not just about all nurses, it is about a very special type of nurse.  Those are the nurses who care for the youngest, smallest and most critical little babies.  Those little ones who many times never get to go home to their families.  She is their caregiver and their family at many times during their stay.  She cares for the little ones and for their families when they too need some love and attention.  Here is to the nurses.   Watch this one to the end… just when you think you got through the touching part….here comes the end and another tissue needed.  This one thanks one special nurse but there are many, many more out there.  So, if you happen to be one of those families who are in need of the care of these special people.  Take a moment from the craziness of your stay at the hospital and tell these wonderful people just how much they mean to you.  You will be glad you did. I would also like to thank Sharon A for sending us this story.
