We See You – A Special Thank You

WOW… this is a special tribute to our police officers who put their lives on the line daily for us.  This video is very moving and reminds us all of the heart of a spouse of an officer and just how difficult it is to live your life knowing the kind of job your spouse  has.  This video makes you walk in the shoes of our police officers.  It reminds you of the stress and feelings of these officers as they try to keep the things they do and see inside.  We do notice how hard they work and how much they help. Take the time to tell an officer that you appreciate his service.  How about buying lunch if you see them at a fast food restaurant?  Or just saying thank you.  These folks never know if the next stop will just go wrong if not for them, but for one of their coworkers.  These days everyone is watching.  Let’s see if we notice the good things they do as much as the bad thing a few do.  Thank you officers.  We do see you.  We do appreciate you and we want you to know.  Share this video. Let’s show them we really do care.

“Humans of New York” raise $1M for students

This was my first experience with “Humans of New York”.  In my research I found he has been doing this for some 4 years now.  Brandon Stanton came to New York and decided to start a blog and meet  10,000 people on the streets of New York.  He never imagined that it turn to this.  Currently he has 12 million people following him on Facebook. Today’s story is about a school in Brooklyn. Mont Hall Bridges Academy is the school where Mrs. Lopez is the principal.  The young man he met on the street told him when he asked  who do you admire, he said his principal. This principal has the goal to send her students to Harvard University.  They started a fund raising campaign to raise $100,000.  In just over 4 days they raised over $1M. The outpouring of love from not just New York but from the world to help these students is unbelieveable.  It just goes to show you that we together can make a difference.  This guy had a wonderful idea to share the thoughts and hearts of the people he met on the street.  Who will he meet next?  What will their story be?  How will their stories touch the world?  Stay tuned and way to go Brandon Stanton. Keep up the great work.

A First Grader Knows How to be a Friend

Vincent and Zach are good friends. Recently Zach was not feeling well only to discover that he had  cancer. Zach is a strong boy and fought his cancer.  He had many treatments but rarely missed school and his friend Vincent.  Vincent was there to help Zach’s spirit.  Vincent learned about cancer and what it was doing to his friend.  He learned that treatment for Zach’s cancer was expensive so he and his mom made scarves and sold them to give the money to Zach.  One day Vincent came to school with a stocking hat on and told his teacher that he had a surprise for Zach.  He removed his cap to expose a shaved head so that Zach was not the only one to not have hair.  This little boy’s love and care for his friend is huge beyond his years.  Zach is continuing to get treatments.  Vincent says “Friendship is a beautiful thing”.  As they say in this report, “Wisdom doesn’t always come with age”.  Thanks Vincent for showing us all just how to be a true friend.  Thanks to Patricia M for sharing this story today.

She Believed In Me- Marc Mero

Marc Mero is an incredible sports figure.  He is a former WCW and WWE Champion.  In this video he talks about his success but more importantly he talks about his mom.  She believes in him through all his trials and temptations.  He lived through susbstance abuse and now spends his time telling young people his story.  He speaks of how his mom believed in him.  She would wait up when he came home drunk with his friends.  She always believed in him.  All she ever wanted to do was to talk to him.  She loved him.  He tells these students that life is not about winning the race. Life is about how we finish the race.  We need to be kinder to each other.  Life is so precious.  This talk is to help these kids know how you can off the right path but it is not too late to get back on the right path and finish the race.  Life is a race and you make it what it will be.  What a powerful gift he gave to these students and to us.  Take the time to reflect on this message and take action now.  Before it is too late.  Care for others and show them that you know how precious life is.  ”Love is just a word until someone gives it meaning.  You are the meaning.”

Wedding surprises from Maroon 5

This may not be news but it really made the news a week or so ago.  Maroon 5 and their lead singer Adam Levine decided to promote their new song “Sugar” by hitting the road and seeing how many weddings they could crash in Los Angeles one day.  It turns out that the groom and the wedding coordinator was in on it at each wedding but they kept it a secret to the bride and all the guests.  This is a great way to promote your new song but what an awesome gift to each of the couples and their guests.  I also saw some background to this video from someone who was actually there at one of the events.  They tell us that the stage was already set when the guests arrived.  After they played with new song Sugar for the actual video the group sang a special song to the happy couple before grabbing thier stuff and heading off to the next wedding.  This was a great way to bring joy to some lucky couples and promote your new song at the  same time.   Can you just imagine being one of these wedding parties and having a group like Maroon 5 come to play at your wedding?  This is something no one will quickly forget.

A Big Surprise for a Deserving Woman

This video starts out as a commercial for Eastern Bank.  What it ends up being is an act of kindness from a community.  Deedee Zgonis owns a pizza parlor with her husband Yani.  Yani passed away at 54 years old and left her alone to run the restaurant.   We all know how difficult it is to lose a loved one but imagine how much harder when that loved on is your business partner. She found it hard to even come into work. She had to learn all aspects of the business.  She stepped up and learned all about the business. She went to the bank for a loan and they learned her story.  The bank and the community wanted to help her.  The bank sent her and a friend on a spa weekend.  She went off with her friend to relax and that is when the fun started.  The community came togther and gave her pizza parlor a makeover.  When she returned from her trip she found a whole new look and all with the help of her daughters.  This is just what she needed and also what the community needed to help one of their own.  What an awesome giftto this deserving woman. I know it is a commercial for the bank but it really was so much more.

Balloon Message from Heaven Answered

A balloon was found in Auburn California at a burger joint called  Local Heroes.  The owner, Lisa Swisley read what was on the balloon and was touched by the message.  This balloon came from over 430 miles away.  It seems that a 16 year old girl who was writing to her father who had passed away.  She sends off a balloon every year on his birthday.  She was telling him what she had done and wanted him to be proud of her.  She also asked for her dad to send her a sign.  That could be why the balloon made it’s way to Auburn and to the Local Heroes Burger restaurant.  Lisa was so touched when she found the balloon that she went to find the owner.  Lisa found the young girl on Facebook.  She says maybe that is why the balloon found it’s way here. Lisa is putting together a care package to send to the girl from the Auburn community.  She even got the Humbolt college softball coach to send something (you see she mentioned that she wants to go to college there and play softball at Humbolt. What a wonderful gift to this young girl. Lisa and the Auburn community are doing a great thing.  Thanks for caring.

Letter Mix Up Leads to Hunting Trip

It all started with the Chester County Sheriff, Alex Underwood, offering to take kids up to 12 years of age on a hunting and fishing trip. He posted the request on Facebook.  That is when 9 year old Chester County, Alex jumped at the chance and wrote to the sheriff that he wanted to go.  You see, he only has his mom and she is not well and can’t do much.  The boy hand-delivered the letter to the Sheriff’s Office, the only problem, he lives in Chester County, Pennsylvania and the invitation was from the sheriff in Chester County, South Carolina.  The sheriff in Chester County Pennsylvania did some research and contacted the Sheriff in South Carolina.   When asked Sheriff Underwood said, “If you can get him here, we can take him with us”,  So she put him on a plane and he was met in South Carolina by the Sheriff and a fleet of patrol cars.  The first thing they did was go shopping for gear.  They bought him hunting clothes and boots with money that was donated and some from the sheriff himself.  They didn’t see a deer that day but they did have a wonderful time.  The boy stayed to hunt and fish for three days before having to return home.  What a wonderful gift for this young boy.  This is a gift he will never forget.

A Teacher for a Town Within a Building

Erika Thompson is a teacher.  Not just any teacher but a teacher in a town within a building.  This is Whittier, Alaska.  It is a very interesting story of a town that is entirely inside of a building.  The grocery store is in the building.  The city offices are in the building.  Everyone in this town lives inside this building. This town is an hour out of Anchorage.  Some people go into Anchorage but they must be back to town before the tunnel closes that go to the town.  If they get there after the tunnel closes they have to sleep in their cars.  Some people never leave the building.  They have everything they need to survive inside the building.  With the weather they have everything inside.   The wonderful part of this story is the community that develops between the people who live in this town.  She tells of how the kids feel about the school. She has these kids for years so they really know and love her like another mother.  What a wonderful relationship she has with these kids.  You have to believe that this helps them with their education.  How many of us would knew that there was a town inside a building here in the United States.  It looks like an amazing community of people.

Police Officer Stays With Lost Dogs

This is a story about a Kansas City Police officer.  Morning commuters found  a police officer sitting on the side of the road waiting with two dogs who had been separated from their owners.   It was a cold day and he found the dogs wondering close to the roadway.  He stayed there and waited with them until the humane society could pick them up.   A passerby took a photo and spread it around on Facebook.  It spread like wildfire.  It even ended up at the shelter where they were taken.  Their owners went by the shelter desperate to find their pets.  They were so relieved to find them there and unhurt.  They were also so grateful for the police officer who took such good care of their pets.  The news team tried to speak with the police officer but he declined an interview and said that he was only doing his duty to serve and protect the 4 legged citizens of his community. What a great attitude.  This is just one of many examples of good police officers who will do anything to serve the community.  Officer, you are truly a good man and a hero in our book.
