Team Helps Save Boy

Here is a story that just reminds us that there are some wonderful kids out there in the world today. A middle school student was by himself over by  Fenton High School football field.  He was approached by a middle aged man the boy ran away towards the football field.  When the football team saw what was happening they got between the man and the young boy.  The man was gesturing to the boy to come to him.  The boy told the team, “Do let him take me”.  They not only got him away from the man but even took a picture of his license plate and a description of his vehicle.  The team came together as a team to help rescue the boy.  They feel like they learned what to do by seeing this scenerio from movies and tv.  The police said they could not arrest the man since he did not actually do anything wrong but they will keep an eye on him and thankfully that little boy is safe because of this team and how they jumped to his rescue.  Way to go boys.  Watching your surroundings always is the best.  Great job.

NFL Team Does the Right Thing

Are you ready for some football?  It is that time again when we all huddle around the TV to watch our favorite teams play football.  I can’t say that my team is the Cincinatti Bengals but I have a new found respect for that team.  This week it was announced that they needed to trim their roster so they cut defensive tackle Devon Still.  Shortly Still received word that they were reinstating him to the practice squad with pay and insurance.  This comes as great news to him as his 4 year old daughter Leah was diagnosed in June with pediatric cancer. Understandably since then he has not been able to devote 100% to the game. “They could have washed their hands with me and said they didn’t care about what I was going through off the field,” Still said.  ”It’s like a blessing in disguise for me”.  He will be able to travel less and spend more time with Leah during her treatments. Way to go Bengals!!  This is the way all companies should treat their employees.  Caring for them like family instead of employees.  Classy move!!

Soccer Champions From a Floating Village

Soccer and Hockey have never been sports that I really understand very well.  However, today’s ALGN post is a soccer story that I really like.  Thank you to Diane K. for sending it to us.  Our post today is a true story about a group of youth from a little floating island south of Thailand called “Koh Panyee”.  This floating village in the middle of the sea doesn’t have an inch of soil.  Yet, the youth on that island had watched a lot of soccer. They really wanted to form their own soccer team.  Even their own villagers thought they were crazy.  But, that did not stop them.  They were determined.  Since they didn’t have a soccer field to play on, they built their own makeshift soccer field out of old wood pieces that they found.  It was dangerous (with nails sticking out everywhere) and slippery (from the soccer ball constantly going into the sea  and them having to go get it), but it was THEIR VERY OWN soccer field. They practiced and played on it and, as it turned out, when they finally had a chance to play on a real soccer field, they discovered that by having practiced on their soccer field, a real soccer field seemed much easier (with much larger goal areas, etc.).  They did very well in their first tournament and went on to become soccer champions year after year.   The youth soccer champs from the floating island of “Koh Panyee” should be an inspiration to all of us.  YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.  Just don’t stop believing!!  Nothing is impossible for someone who really believes.  Their desire, belief and determination made a big difference and has served as inspiration for others on their little island.

Another Great Military Homecoming Surprise

I know we did a military homecoming surprise last week, but we found this one and hope you like it, as well.  Thank you, Denise S., for finding it for us.  Today’s post for “ALittleGoodNews.com” is about Master Sergeant Joseph Martell.  He had been serving in the military in Afghanistan for quite a while.  The military allowed him to return home a month early.  Master Sergeant Martell and his wife decided to keep it a secret from their son, who was one of the captains of his high school football team in Brussels, Belgium.  I’m sure that being able to come home early from the military and just being there would have been a big enough of a surprise, but Martell decided to do it one better.  He worked it out to get a uniform of the opposing team and he stood patiently on the sidelines, watching his son play the game for three quarters.  Then, after the 3rd quarter was over, the referees called a meeting with the captains of each team at the 50 yard line to discuss Sportsmanship (or, at least, that was what all of the players thought.  However, it was just a clever disguise set up between Martell, the coaches and the referees.  Once they get to the 50 yard line, Master Sergeant Martell removes his helmet and the reaction by his son is priceless.  Just seconds before, he thought his dad was with the military in Afghanistan.  But now he sees him, standing in front of him.  The reunion is a great one.  Thank you, Master Sergeant Martell…and every other person serving in the military / armed forces to protect our country!!  And, more importantly, thank you for being a great father and for taking that role as seriously as you do.

Have a GREAT day…by making it a great day for someone else!!!
