Memorial Day Tribute

On this day we need to stop offer a tribute and remember all of those who gave their lives for us to have our freedom.  This video is a little longer than most that we post but the message is so powerful.  Take the time to watch.  It will touch your heart.  So many of us just can’t even understand the pain that the families of these lost soldiers know.  What we can do is take time to thank a soldier when you see them while you still can.  Walking through the airport, the mall or just on the street.  Stop them.  Shake their hands and tell them just how much their service means to not only you but to this country.  I am so proud when I hear of people who give up their seat in first class for a soldier going home. Or even to just acknowledge them on a flight.  Remember they chose to do this service.  There is no longer a draft that took our young men without their choice to serve.  These people made the choice and we should thank them.  Enjoy your holiday but remember who it is really for…. Our Heroes.

Have a GREAT day…by making it a great day for someone else!!!

Siblings save baby brother from kidnapping

A man snatches a toddler from a playground from Sprague, Washington.  The 8 year old sister and the 10 year  old brother go chasing after the man holding their baby brother.  The three had been playing at the playground with a babysitter who had just stepped away.  Their 22 month old baby brother was snatched by the stranger and they ran screaming after him.  They were seen (and heard) by some teenagers and an adult who called 911.  Screaming and yellling is what caused the kidnapperto put down the child in a vacant lot and run away.  He was found unharmed and has his big brother and big sister to thank for saving him from kidnapping.  This story is good news thanks to these kids and their parents who talk them about stranger danger.  How brave of them to scream and yell and chase this man way until he dropped thier little brother and ran.  These two are such heroes.  How amazing the clear minds they had to do the right thing and get help.  Way to go Brandon and Alicia.  You two are just amazing.

Working together saves his life

This video is about a car accident and the people who made a difference.  A 26 year old was driving along America’s longest bridge when his car crashes through the guardrail.  Immediately those who saw the accident leap into action.  Al Pike stopped his car and ran to jump off the bridge into the water to pull the driver out of the car.  He found the driver and helped him while the other witnesses started throw a rope into the water.  They tie the rope around the driver and pull him to safety.  This is not something that one person could do.  This had to be done by the group working together.  The end result would have been much worse if no one had wanted to help.  This is what people do when things like this happen.  They jump into action and do what needs to be done to get the job done.  He needed them and they were there for him.  Great job people.  You are out heroes.  You were there to take action and not just stand by and be an observer.

Heaven was needing a hero

In preparation of the Veteran’s Day holiday I was looking for an appropriate video and I saw this one.  It was made in the memory of all those lost in wars both past and present.  It is created with the music from country star Jo Dee Messina. I am sure you will all be touched when you listen to the lyrics.  Here are a few them …

I came by today to see you
I just had to let you know
If I knew the last time that I held you was the last time
I’d have held you, and never let go

Oh, it’s kept me awake nights, wondering
I lie in the dark, just asking why
I’ve always been told
You won’t be called home
Until it’s your time

I guess heaven was needing a hero
Somebody just like you
Brave enough to stand up
For what you believe
And follow it through
When I try to make it make sense in my mind
The only conclusion I come to
Is heaven was needing a hero
Like you ….

Thank you to all who are serving and have served .

Mailman saves child from choking

South Carolina mailman is being hailed a hero after he saves baby from choking.   Eli Cooper about to turn one and like a typical one year old he puts everything in his mouth.  Stephie Cooper, Eli’s mom turned around to find him choking on a plastic wrapper.  She tried to help him by beating him on the back but it wasn’t coming out.  She ran outside to get help and found Chris Brown the mailman.  Brown didn’t say a word but just grabbed the child and did the Heimlich on him.  The plastic wrapper came flying out.  Brown said he learned this during a training years ago.  He is definately their hero.  He is too humble to accept the title of hero.  Brown said, “I really don’t feel that way because to e I would have done it for anyone or I hope someone would have done it for my children”.   Whether he thinks so or not this man is our hero.  Thank you Chris Brown for being there for Eli so he can celebrate his first birthday.

Toddler Rescues Elderly Man from Hot Car

Help can come from anyone and anywhere.  This is a story of a toddler who came to the rescue.  Bob King has had numerous cancer treatments and has also suffered from two strokes in the past six months.  Bob and his wife Jenny were out running errands.  Bob said he would wait in the car while Jenny stopped at the church.  It was a hot day (in the 90s).  Bob tried to roll down the windows but they were stuck.  He didn’t have the strength to open the door.  Bob spotted Keith walking past and knocked on the window to get his attention.  Keith is 3 years old and barely 3 feet tall.  He tried to open the door but when he was unable to get it to budge he ran for help.  Keith grabbed his pastor Jack Greene.  He pulled on his hand and said “locked, locked” “hot hot”.  Pastor Greene followed Keith to the car. When Pastor Greene got the door open he helped Bob into the church to cool off and get him some water.  Surprisingly Keith’s mother had just taught him about hot car safety days before.  When asked Keith says, “I saved life”.  Little Keith is our hero.  Way to go Keith.

Thanks once again Patricia M for this story.  Keep ‘em coming.

A Mom’s Heroic Act Saves Her Children

This is a story that happened 10 years ago this week.  I recently saw an update for it but this original story seemed to tell the tale much better.  Thanks to Kimberly C and Tiffany G for finding this story.  This was taken from an Oprah show about Moms.  This story is about a family vacation that changed their lives forever.  Joy and her family were headed to a vacation spot in Colorado.  After Joy and the other adults stepped out of their SUV somehow the car suddenly started rolling away towards a steep cliff.  Joy ran after the SUV throwing herself in front of it in an attempt to stop the moving vehicle.  Her act slowed the vehicle just enough for her father to jump in and stop the vehicle in time.  In time to save the kids but not in time to help Joy.  Her back was broken in the accident  to leave her paralized and never to walk again.   These little children are grown up now but still admire their Mom for the sacrifice she made.  Here is a link to their Mother’s Day message they did for their mom. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-KA8pL64W1I  Both these videos show a mother’s love and the daughter’s love for their mother.  It is amazing what we will go through for our kids.  This mom raised some pretty amazing kids too.

Walmart Rewards Boy for Providing Smoke Detectors

Hector Montoya is a boy who takes action.  This 9 year old after hearing a news report about a family that did not survive a fire decided it was more important to buy smoke detectors than to buy something for himself.  He used his own allowance buy smoke detectors instead of a new gaming system he had been saving for.   After talking to his mom about why people don’t have smoke detectors he went to Walmart and purchased $300 worth of smoke detectors for his community.  Word got out and even the fire department helped him install some of those smoke detectors.  A family in the area heard about what Hector had done and gave him the gaming system he had wanted.  Then Walmart joined in and surprised Hector with a large screen tv and 5 games to go along with it.  Hector humbly said he did not expect any of this attention he just wanted to help other people get the smoke detectors to save lives.  This young man is so caring he even is reaching out to the President for help.  What an amazing young man at 9 years old to care so much for others.  What can you do to help people in your community?  When we all do a little it turns into a lot. Thanks to Patricia M for sending us this great story.

10 year old Saves Self by Singing

Another amazing kid story.  Thanks to Sarah M for letting us know about this brave boy.  Almost 10 year old Willie Myrick said he was in his front yard and bent down to pick up money when somebody grabbed him and threw him in a car.  When asked what happened, Willie told authorities,  ” He grabbed me and then he told me he didn’t want to hear a word from me.”   That’s when Willie began singing a gospel song called “Every Praise”.   And he sang and he sang and he sang.   He was singing  the song for about three hours until the kidnapper let him out of the car.  What a brave little man he was.  What courage that took.  Once he was released the little boy ran to a nearby home and asked the resident to call his guardian.  So far there are no leads to the man who tried to take little Willie Myrick.

I believe that God gives us the courage and strength we need during difficult times if we call on him.  Willie is certainly a believer and he knew how to call on the Lord for help during this horrible ordeal.   We all need to have faith like Willie in our own situations.

Good Samaritan Stops Bank Robbery With His Bare Hands

Bank security photos show what happened.  Today’s ALGN is a little bit different than what we usually show, but it is still “good news” in that the bad guy didn’t get away with a crime because of a good samaritan who came in and saved the day.  Thank you to Tim M. for sharing this story with us.  Recently, in my neighboring down of Fullerton, California, a man entered a bank and tried to hold it up, declaring that he had a gun inside his plastic bag that he was holding up.  Fortunately, for the bank (and unfortunately for the would-be bank robber), Herb Pearce was one of the customers in line.  Herb says he couldn’t believe it was happening.  As Herb started to move towards the man who was trying to rob the bank, the bank robber than pointed his “gun” (hand inside the bag — as it turned out, he was NOT armed) at Herb.  Herb jumped in and grabbed the bank robber by the arm and hit him twice, and then took him down.  In doing so, our hero broke his hand in several places.  He can’t afford health insurance and doesn’t know how he will get it taken care of.  Even the police admit that he probably saved the bank from being robbed.  Even though the police do NOT recommend that civilians get involved in trying to stop bank robberies, I would hope that some smart leader at this bank will decide to reward their “hero” for saving them a lot of money!!
