3 German Students Help Homeless Man

This is just a sweet story to brighten your day.  Thanks to Patricia M for sharing this video.  This video shows that we don’t need to do alot but sometimes the smallest act can help.  Three German students stop by a homeless guy to sing a short song and collect a few coins to give to the homeless man and to give joy to all around.  What a lovely selfless act.  Spending a few minutes talking with the guy and then just use a simple bucket and a guitar to create a lovely song that encourages folks passing by to donate some money in a hat.  They they return the bucket and give the man the had and the money.

Sometimes people need just a moment of joy.  I am sure this song and act gave him just that.. a moment of joy.  Share this with others to pass on that moment of joy.  Together we can change things.

Those Who Have Less Give More

Here is a video that really tells a story.  These guys were testing the theory of those who have less give more.  At the same time they were helping out some people who need help.  Watch as they first ask for help from those who appear to have all they need. They ask for food from people who have food at a restaurant.  Then they offer food to those who do not have any food.  After offering the food they send someone else in to ask those with none (who were just given food from them) to share with someone in need.  The results are not what I would have expected.  I would assume if you have nothing and then you are given something you would want to keep what you received.  That is not what they do.  Those that have less DO give more.  They share the little they have with the one in need. How inspiring.  It also makes me stop and thing of how much I have and how I should share it more.  How does this story speak to you?  Start by sharing this video with those you know and then when the opportunity presents itself share with those in need.  You will be glad you did.

Prank for Good – Helping the Homeless

There are many stories about people who do pranks on others.  Most of the time those are to make someone look foolish or to upset someone.  This story is about a prank that is for good.  This prank is on the owner of a pizza parlor.  Watch this video and see how these guys pull this prank on their friend (who owns the store).  But in fact it really is not a prank at all.  It is an opportunity for them to serve the homeless.  Once they get into the pizza parlor (after making up a story that they left their wallet there on a visit earlier in the day) they make short work of making as many pizzas as they can.  They make 30 pizzas.  Then they leave their friend the money for the supplies and go to work.  They head down to a shelter and start handing out hot pizzas to homeless.  They get smiles and even prayers.  They even gave them $5 for drinks as they did not have drinks to pass out.  How wonderful to see the smiles on the faces of the people who they are serving.  But watch closely.  I think they are enjoying giving almost as much as the people who get the pizzas are about receiving.  Giving is a wonderful thing.  This is my kind of prank.  Thank you guys for showing us how fun it is to give.

Thanks to Amy W for sending us this story.

He Even Gave the Homeless the Shirt Off His Back

This is an inspiring story I found.  I see many stories about homeless.  Most people think that what they need is the obvious- a place to sleep or a meal.  This story shows a father and son who took the time to offer an everyday need…shoes.  What a wonderful gift to these people who so often use what they can get (like the guy in the story that is actually wearing women’s shoes that are too small for him).  He goes from homeless person to homeless person and shares this simple but necessary gift.  It is a very moving and lovely expression of generosity and respect to these homeless people in need.  He is so moved when he finds this one man sleeping next door to an upscale restaurant he offers him his shirt off his back.  He then prays with the man before they part ways.  What a blessing he was to these people he met that day.  Be a blessing to someone today.  Share yourself with others.  You will be glad you did.  And as we say…….

Waiter Feeds the Homeless

Good Monday Morning!!  I hope you are excited for this new week ahead.  We decided to start this week out right with a nice little video of someone serving some homeless people in his area.  As I understand it, this young man does prank videos.  But, this time, he decided that what he wanted to do was to dress up as a fancy waiter and surprise a bunch of different homeless individuals by serving them a very nice meal.  Thank you to Aubrey D. for sending this link to me.  It is neat to see the service that this young man provides these homeless people and the way they are treated with such dignity (very different from how they are normally treated).  Many times, homeless people are avoided by the general public.  Or, sometimes, mean people do terrible things to them, thinking it is funny.  But, in this case, the homeless in this video are treated with dignity and respect (and that is above and beyond the nice meal that they also get).  This brought a smile to my face to begin the week and I hope it does for you, as well.  Watching these homeless individuals be fed and treated with such respect reminds me of the scripture in the Bible, found in Matthew 25:40 that reads:  ”And the King shall answer and say unto them them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”  May we always look to treat all those around us (homeless or not) with the same dignity and respect that we would want to be treated.  Let’s keep working to make this world a better place!!

Homeless Man Cries After Lottery Win

Today’s post is a little different.  It is an interesting take on a lottery winner.  I want to thank Sean R. for sending it to me yesterday.   A guy (named Rahat) who I believe usually does pranks on the internet decided to do a POSITIVE lottery prank (a “Goodwill Prank”, if you will).  Rahat noticed a homeless man that had been hanging around a local shopping center near where he lives.  He decided to take a losing lottery ticket and, working with the store clerk at a local convenience store, he decided to pull off a lottery prank.  He went to the homeless man and told hm that he didn’t have any money but he was willing to give him a lottery ticket that he bought and take him to a local convenience store and if it won anything, he would get to keep it.  The homeless man went with Rahat to the store.  I’m sure he didn’t have high hopes, but he also had nothing to lose.  Remember, this is a LOSING lottery ticket.  But, Rahat had already worked it out with the clerk ahead of time (including giving him the money to hand out).  So, when they got to the store, the clerk looked at the lottery ticket and told the homeless man and Rahat that the lottery ticket had won $1,000.  The homeless man could not believe it, but then the clerk counted out 10 $100 bills and gave it to him.  I am sure that Rahat wasn’t ready for what came next.  The homeless man then commenced to try to share his winnings from the lottery ticket with Rahat.  Rahat refused, telling the man that this money was HIS.  Then, the man stopped and started to cry.  You will see that even Rahat can’t help but be overcome by this.  I’m not sure what Rahat was expecting to do with this prank or what he thought would happen (I hope he wasn’t planning on pulling it all away at the end).  But, I’m sure that he didn’t expect it to end this way.  And now, his “lottery prank” will go down as the best one that he has ever pulled.  We need to help others realize that doing GOOD is WAY more fun than being mean.  Even when it comes to pranks.  Hopefully, Rahat is convinced.  Now let’s go and convince everyone else.

Have a GREAT day…by making it a great day for someone else!!!

“Homeless” Man Gives To The Givers

Today’s ALGN post (sent in from Tim M.) has a different take on homeless street corner beggars.  We have all been in those situations on street corners, when the light is red and a homeless person is holding a sign.  We also have seen expose news stories that have shown us that many of them are not really in bad spots at all.  Some of these “homeless” people actually have fine places to live and drive to their “work” to hold their sign.  Many people have told me that it makes it hard for them to want to help because they don’t know if this person is really down on their luck or just scamming for easy money.  I guess you never really know.  Well, this past Christmas, one man decided that he wanted those people who give to be rewarded.  Jonnie Wright is a businessman in Des Moines, Iowa.  He said that, for a very long time, it had been a “bucket list” thing for him to pose as a homeless person and give back to those wonderful people who give (and do so, anonymously — as they know that they may never see that person again and that nobody really saw them helping).  I suppose he also wanted to see how it would feel to be in the situation of needing to ask for money as a homeless person.  What a surprise when people reached out to give him a buck or two and he quickly handed them back a sealed envelope and said, “God Bless You!”.  When they got back home, they read the note that this “homeless” man had written them that was inside the envelope.   It thanked them for their thoughtful donation and let them know that he was NOT a Des Moines homeless man, but a Des Moines businessman.  He also left money in the envelope, telling the person to use it any way they wanted.  In the few freezing hours that he did this, he gave away 50 letters and nearly $1,000.  On top of that, he then donated all of the money that was given to him (plus more) to the Bethel Mission so they could help more homeless people.

Homeless Hitchhiker Saves Woman’s Life

A homeless hitchhiker jumps in and saves a woman’s life when she was being attacked by a crazed driver.

Thank goodness that the news station bleeped out most of the foul language in this news story so we can feel better about sharing it.  It is a story that easily could have been just another regular “bad news” story for the evening news, but some Good Samaritans stepped in to change the outcome.  One of the heroes, however, was about to become a victim, herself.

A homeless hitchhiker came to the rescue!!

A homeless hitchhiker happened to be the passenger of the crazed man who was trying to kill others.  In a great turn of events, he came to the rescue of the Good Samaritan turned victim and saved the woman’s life.  Too often, society ignores the homeless and wants to pretend they don’t exist.  I love these stories that show us how, even though many of these people are down on their luck through no fault of their own…and are often treated poorly by others, they still care about their fellowmen and come to their aid when they can.  He didn’t turn away and only worry about himself.  Isn’t that great!?!
