A New Home for a Hero

This video was from this past July but it is a great story.  At a local soccer game in Dallas Texas they took the time to honor a veteran.  Not just honor the vet but to present him and his family with a gift.  Sergeant First Class Jerry Holcomb was honored for his service and then the family received the surprise of their lives.  They were told to turn towards the big boards and watch a presentation about them. Jerry served for 13 years in the army with 3 tours in Iraq and Afganistan and . He had received 2 purple hearts and 2 bronze stars and many more. Operation Final Home told the builders of their story.  They presented him with a mortgage free custom home.  They joy on their faces is amazing.  You can tell they can’t quite believe what happened.  We just want to congratulate them on their new home and thank you Jerry for your service.  You deserve this and so much more.

A Memorial Day Tribute

Memorial Day is a time to remember those who have lost thier lives serving our country. In honor of the men and women who have given so much we offer this beautifully done video.   This is one of those holidays where we can easily forget the real purpose.  We sometimes get caught up with the launch of summer, with barbecues with friends and family.  We enjoy our day off from work but do we really take the time to remember.  To remember those who lost their lives to preserve our freedom.   If you cannot attend any of the observances this is a good way to reflect on the sacrifices these people have made for our country.

We thank all who have lost a family member through service to this great nation.  We can never forget those who spent many days, weeks and even years away from their families and too often not return home. Memorial Day is to remember….and to honor.

Remember these great words, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” -John Fitzgerald Kennedy.

Have a GREAT day…by making it a great day for someone else!!!

Rolling Thunder Rolls On Again

Today’s video is from 2010 but it is also happening today.  This weekend is the annual Rolling Thunder ride in Washington DC. Rolling Thunder’s mission is to educate, facilitate, and never forget by means of a demonstration for service members that were abandoned after the Vietnam War. Rolling Thunder has also evolved into a display of patriotism and respect for all who defend our country.  It happens every year over Memorial Day weekend.  The Rolling Thunder First Amendment Demonstration Run is an annual ride and gathering that first started in 1988. Riders from around the nation, and even around the world rally in the Pentagon parking lots and begin the run through the streets of Washington, D.C. Afterward, it is an opportunity to meet old and new friends, pay respect at the memorials and participate in the Memorial Day events.  The run is open to all who wish to show their support.  The run is always on the Sunday before Memorial Day Observance.

This video shows a lone Marine who saluted the riders by standing in honor of his fallen comrades.  You can see that he at times he is overwelmed with the tribute.

If you can’t be in Washington DC this weekend take a moment to watch this and feel apart of a great tradition of honor and respect for our veterans and active military.  We won’t forget.

Have a GREAT day…by making it a great day for someone else!!!

Thank a Teacher

This week is Teacher Appreciation Week.  It is one of those holidays that most of us don’t know about.  It is also one that most of forget.  Thank you to Kimberly C for showing me this delightful little video.  This is so cute and will get you humming along.  Teachers do these things and much much more.  We forget that while our kids are growing up they spend much more time with their teachers than they do with us their parents.  We expect them to help our children grow into the people we want them to be. They need to do this many times without any appreciation.  Well here is your chance.  Surprise a teacher and just say thanks.  If you feel moved to buy your teacher a small gift of appreciation.  Maybe a cup of coffee or a muffin in the morning.  Maybe a gift card.  Maybe some school supplies (did you know that many teachers provide their own class supplies because the school will not supply them anymore due to government budget cuts?).  They do so much for our kids that we really can’t do enough to repay them.  So next week, take a moment to just say, “THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO”.    And,  if you can read this.. thank a teacher.

Have a GREAT day…by making it a great day for someone else!!!
