Louisville Police Officer Helps Runner Finish

Asia Mystory Ford decided  to start losing weight after her husband lost a limb due to diabetes.  She lost over  217 lbs.  To celebrate her weight loss she decided to compete in The Rodes City Run which is a 10k in historic downtown Louisville, Kentucky.  As she was only 2 miles from the finish line she started to feel bad.  She was approached by Officer Aubrey Gregory who offered to get her an ambulance to take care of her.  She said she did not want to stop so Officer Gregory stepped up to help her and do the last two miles together. Asia, her son and Officer Gregory walked the last two miles together and finished the race.  This story spread fast on social media.  It is wonderful to hear a good story about a police officer who spent his time helping a citizen achieve her goal.  Not only did he help her complete the race. He got a forever friend.  You are amazing Asia Ford. You may not have been the fastest runner but you made it.  You are a hero Officer Gregory. You both are inspiring to us all.

Unusual Runner Joins the Race

On May 15, 2011, the Maryland Half Marathon had an unusual and unexpected competitor – a four-legged canine named Dozer. E:60 takes you to the course and reveals how Dozer reached the finish line and bested thousands of runners.  Dozer, a Goldendoodle watched as the race passed by his house.  He usually has an electric fence that keeps him in his yard but on this day the fence is not working due to a power outage.  So when the group of 2000 runners started coming by Dozer joined in.  He ended up not only running the remainder 8 miles but then back home.  The race was to raise money for the local cancer center.  They set up a fund raising page for Dozer and within hours he raised almost $45,000. Dozer raised more money than any other competitor in the race. It was great to see how people react to this dog joining the race.  How wonderful for Dozer to be able to help raise money for the Cancer center.   Thanks to Tammy H for sharing this story.  Are you up for a marathon?  Not all of us are but when you see friends who are and they need a sponsor to help a cause like the cancer center.. step up. Join the group and make a difference like Dozer did.

Amazing runner with MS

Kayla Montgomery is an amazing athlete in itself.  But when you hear what she overcoming you will be shocked.  Kayla is a runner for her high school track team.  Running track is something Kayla has been doing for sometime.  That was until she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).   She has gone form being one of the slower runners on her high school team to one of the fastest distance runners in the nation.  Three years ago when Kayla was diagnosed she said, “Instead of letting it stop me from running, I’ve used it to motivate me to break records”.  And break records she does.  She is doing so good that she trains with the boys team and receives no special treatment.  That is except when the  race is over.  You see, MS keeps her from feeling the pain in her legs.  When she stops running her legs gives out and she collapes.  As she crosses the finish line, her coach catches her to keep her from falling.  ”It kind of feels like I’m just kind of floating”, she says.  ”There’s nothing underneath me”.  Kayla’s coach, Patrick Cromwell is amazed at her progress.  ”I don’t know.  I would have never thought she would improve 8 minutes in four years either”.  No one knows what will happen as the disease progresses.  We only know that Kayla is amazing and we wish her the best.   Thanks to Shawn H for bringing us this story to share.
