A New Home for a Hero

This video was from this past July but it is a great story.  At a local soccer game in Dallas Texas they took the time to honor a veteran.  Not just honor the vet but to present him and his family with a gift.  Sergeant First Class Jerry Holcomb was honored for his service and then the family received the surprise of their lives.  They were told to turn towards the big boards and watch a presentation about them. Jerry served for 13 years in the army with 3 tours in Iraq and Afganistan and . He had received 2 purple hearts and 2 bronze stars and many more. Operation Final Home told the builders of their story.  They presented him with a mortgage free custom home.  They joy on their faces is amazing.  You can tell they can’t quite believe what happened.  We just want to congratulate them on their new home and thank you Jerry for your service.  You deserve this and so much more.

She Couldn’t Wait a Moment Longer

You can’t always wait.  This little girl was there with her family and many other families as they waited for their soldiers to return home.  As they came into the room she waited until she couldn’t wait any longer.  She ran to her daddy before he was dismissed.  Nothing could stop her and nothing could keep him from greeting this little girl. She returned back to her mom and waiting with everyone else until her dad was officially dismissed to run to her.  How sweet. We just don’t realize how much the families of our military suffer and give up for our freedom.  First Lt Daniel Oglsby was deployed to Kawait eight months ago. Not only that but Thursday was little Kara’s birthday.  What could be a better gift than having your daddy come home?  Christine, his wife, said that last time he came from home from deployment was the first time he met his little girl Kara when she was 2 months old.  This mom spent many nights reading to her little girls about deployment in a child’s book called “Lily Hates Goodbyes” where the little girl runs to her dad when he returns.  She clearly took a lesson from this book.  Welcome Home Lt. Oglesby and enjoy your time with your daughters. Thank you for your service.

Memorial Day Tribute

On this day we need to stop offer a tribute and remember all of those who gave their lives for us to have our freedom.  This video is a little longer than most that we post but the message is so powerful.  Take the time to watch.  It will touch your heart.  So many of us just can’t even understand the pain that the families of these lost soldiers know.  What we can do is take time to thank a soldier when you see them while you still can.  Walking through the airport, the mall or just on the street.  Stop them.  Shake their hands and tell them just how much their service means to not only you but to this country.  I am so proud when I hear of people who give up their seat in first class for a soldier going home. Or even to just acknowledge them on a flight.  Remember they chose to do this service.  There is no longer a draft that took our young men without their choice to serve.  These people made the choice and we should thank them.  Enjoy your holiday but remember who it is really for…. Our Heroes.

Santa Helps Soldier Propose

This will my last post about Christmas for this year.  I just couldn’t let this one get by.  This story is about a soldier who wanted to propose to his girlfriend.  The problem was he is still stationed in Afganistan.  He, of course, wanted to do it himself but because he would not be back in the states until next June he needed to enlist the help of others.  He first called his girlfriend’s mom and asked if she could help.  She got Kimberly Robert’s dad to help get her to go to the mall to ” do Christmas shopping”.   She went along and agreed to sit with Santa and tell him what she wanted for Christmas.  She told Santa that she wanted her boyfriend to come home from Afganistan safe.  When she did, Santa pulled out a bouquet of flowers.  He then got down on on one knee and read the proposal that was written by her boyfriend. Clint.  As you can see in this video she is totally taken by surprise.  Great job Clint.  We think this was a great idea and really worked.  I am sure Kimberly will never forget her proposal.  Take care Clint and get home to her as soon as you can.

Santa Brings Another Soldier Home

This time it is in St. Charles Missouri.  Santa is seeing all the children at Bass Pro Shops.  Like usual the children are coming to Santa to tell him what they want for Christmas.  Many want dolls, trucks, bikes and balls.  But today, there is a special little girl who is coming to visit Santa and ask for a very special gift. Mady  Pholman and her mom have come to Bass Pro Shop to see Santa and ask for a different kind of gift.  Mandy asks Santa if he can bring her daddy home from Afghanistan.  He has been away for many months and she misses her daddy very much.  While she is stting on Santa’s lap she sees the door open to the house next to Santa and out walks her daddy.  What a happy day for her.  If only all the little children who have a mommy or daddy away would be able to come home for Christmas.  We can only hope that there are many stories like this.  Thanks to Bass Pro Shop for helping with this reunion.  Merry Christmas to all those serving in the military this holiday season.  May you all be able to return home soon safe and sound.

Soldier Surprises Family

I never get tired of these stoies.  At this time of year we see lots of stories about soldiers surprising their family with an early return.  This week and next week we will probably share a couple of these types of stories.  It is so wonderful to see the family as they realize that their soldier has come home. Most of us will never understand the joy of seeing a family member coming home unexpectantly for the holidays.  Have you ever stopped a soldier that you see at the airport or walking through a store to just say “Thank you for your service”?  There are too many that don’t get to come home for the holidays.  When you see the ones that do please stop them and tell them just how glad you are to see them and how much you appreciate their service.  They can’t hear it enough.  I don’t know who was happier in the video – the family or the soldier.  Welcome home and we wish you and your family a Merry Christmas.

Veterans stand against protesters

This story is from some time ago when in Gerard, Kansas they are gathering to lay to rest Corporal Richard Bennett.  It should be a day of peace and sadness but so often we hear of this happening over and over again.  Radical protesters who show up to disrupt funerals of our fallen soldiers. Trying to spread their hateful message.   Bikers by the hundered converge on the military funeral as invited guests.  This is a group of Christian veterans who won’t allow this to happen anymore.  With their bikes and their bodies they form a shield.  These vets (the Patriot Guard) show up at military funerals to stand between these protesters and the family of the fallen soldier with flags waving, reaving motors and music playing so the family can grieve in peace without seeing or hearing these protesters.  The men feel that no family should have to face this type of hatred on the day when they are burying their loved one.  They say that even if the protesters stop showing up that he and fellow Patriot Guard members will continue to come to stand together as a show of support.  We all need to be there to help when we can and how we can.  Great job Patriot Guard.

Daughter Gets Letter from Father After 70 years

Here is a story of perseverance. There are actually two great stories here.  The first one is about Donna Gregory who found a box of letters.  Donna was helping clean out a house when she discovered this box.  Included amongst many other was a letter from Pfc. John Eddington written in WWII.  He penned the letter right before being deployed to Europe.  She also found a letter from the War Department to his wife telling of his death in Italy in 1944 just four months after his daughter’s birth.  She also found his Purple Heart.  Donna has made it her mission to find his daughter to return these items to her.  That mission took her over 14 years going through libraries and the internet to track her down.  With the help of many she located Peggy Smith, his daughter.  The second story is of Peggy Smith.  Peggy was stunned when she got the call from Donna.  She said she did not know much about her father because her mother was so heartbroken that she would not speak of him.  Donna felt that Peggy would want to know just how much she meant to her father.  In this message she reads the letter and you can see how much it means to her to “hear” the words of her father so many years ago.  Thank you Donna for sticking to it to reunite this father and daughter in a way they only could.

Utah Town Helps Airman Through Facebook

Here is another story of how Facebook is not just a place to post pictures and play games.  Thanks so much to Sharon A for bringing us this story.  How many of us go onto Facebook just to see what our friends are doing?  Well here is a story of a airman (just back in the country after 7 years oversees)  that was making his way from his home in Vancouver Washington to report for duty in Texas.  As Staff Sergeant Rowan Coash was driving through Utah his car broke down.  He didn’t know what to do.  He called a friend in Washington while he waited for tow truck.  His friend Erica posted on Facebook “Anybody out there in Facebook Land near Price, Utah and willing to help a soldier?”.  He got a rental truck and left his car behind (stored at the house of a resident of Price, UT) to report on time.  The Facebook posts continued to spread and they even got a car repair shop to donate time and rebuild the engine of his car at no cost. The Price community came together to repair the car and even ship the car to Rowan in Texas, again at no charge.

What a great community to step up and help out someone in need. Rowan Coash has served our country for years.  This community took the time and effort to begin to repay that deed.  Way to go Price Utah!!

Soldier Surprises Daughter at Graduation

There is nothing better than watching your child graduate.   Thank you to Mark B. for this story.  This is a special graduation for Taylor Crafton a North Dakota high school student.  Her father, Chris Crafton is deployed overseas.  He has been deployed 9 times since she was three.  He has missed many special events during her life.  A friend of the family had a cut out picture made for Taylor so she could see her father there at her graduation.  To surprise the entire family (not just Taylor but her mom too) he was waiting backstage as they announced her name to recieve her diploma.

Don’t you just love these reunion stories?  I sure do.  I can’t get enough of these.  It was great that he was not only able to be there but was also able to surprise the entire family.  You can sure see the joy in her face when she sees her dad and when she talks about him afterwards.

Thanks again to Mark B for sharing this story.  Do you have a story to share- one that will bring joy to others who watch it?  Please send it our way and we will share it for you.  Just send it to alittlegoodnewsmail@gmail. com or message us on our facebook page.
